The triumph secured a Texas League South Division second-half title and home-field advantage in this round of the playoffs. The Hooks finished the season with a Double-A best 83-57 mark, which established a new club record for victories. Corpus Christi hurlers Ruben Alaniz, Alex Sogard and Jonas Dufek worked around three errors and five unearned runs. Alaniz scattered seven hits and a walk over 5.1 innings, leveling his record at 9-9. Sogard permitted an unearned tally in 2.2 frames and Jonas Dufek stranded the tying run at third in the ninth for the save. Jio Mier s defensive gem recorded the final out. Mier, making his first pro appearance at third base, gloved a smash from Adam Buschini behind the bag and fired a strike across the diamond to retire the runner by a step. Domingo Santana led the charge offensively, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs. Preston Tucker s two -out RBI single in the fifth broke a 3-3 tie. Santana followed with his second blast of the day, a three-run shot to left. PAGE 2 I-37 SERIES: For the first time in 9 seasons, a span of 252 games, Corpus Christi and San Antonio meet in the postseason. The Missions own a considerable edge in the lifetime series, posting a record of 143-109 against the Hooks. Corpus Christi went 18-10 last season, marking the club s first winning campaign vs. its I-37 rival. The Hooks and Missions spilt their 28 contests this year. The Hooks claimed 5 of the last 7 meetings en route to the TL South 2nd-half title. 3-FOR-3: With the 2nd-half title under its belt, Corpus Christi has won the last 3 halves in Texas League play. The last club to achieve this feat was Northwest Arkansas from 2009-10. The Naturals went on to win the circuit crown in 2010. The 2011 Texas League Champion San Antonio Missions were the last to win both halves in a single season, running the table with a 94-46 record. Corpus Christi is 127-83 (.605) since the 2nd stanza began last season. AT THE HELM: In 6 campaigns as a Texas League manager, Keith Bodie s clubs have won 6 2nd-half championships. His TL charges stand 470-363 for a.564 winning percentage. That ranks as the 4th-highest career winning percentage among circuit skippers with at least 500 games at the helm. POWER SURGE: Domingo Santana belted 2 home runs on Labor Day, sealing Corpus Christi s season total at 158. The Hooks finish the year 3rd in the minors in homers. Hickory (Texas) of the South Atlantic League stands 2nd with 178 and Stockton (Oakland) in the California League leads the pack at 183. The Hooks shattered the pervious club record, which was 123 set last season. Santana, who finished 3rd in the Texas League with 25 bombs and a.498 slugging percentage, now stands 3rd on the club s single-season HR list. Only Koby Clemens (26, 2010) and Hunter Pence (28, 2006) rank higher. Santana has hit safely in 22 of his last 28 games, batting.308 with 11 home runs and 22 RBIs. ON A TEAR: INF Ronny Torreyes ended the regular season with an 11-game hitting streak. Torreyes was 20-for-42 (.476) with 11 runs, 4 doubles, 2 triples and 6 RBIs during the stretch, raising his batting average from.205 to.278. The 20-year-old from Venezuela hit safely in 23 of the final 28 games. MEET YOUR CATCHERS: Brett Clements, 22, joined Corpus Christi last week from the Gulf Coast League where he was hitting.222 with 5 runs, 1 double and 2 RBIs in 19 games. A native of Riverview, FL, Clements was acquired by the Astros as a non-drafted free agent in mid June out of Nova Southeastern. As a senior for the Sharks, he started 42 games behind the plate and posted a.993 fielding percentage. Clements committed just two errors in 297 total chances, while throwing out 27 percent of would-be base stealers. Clements is the 7th catcher to suit up for Corpus Christi this season. C Luis Alvarez is 6-for-24 (.250) with a double, home run, sac fly and 4 RBIs in 8 contests for the Hooks. Alvarez had played in only 33 games prior to joining Corpus Christi. The 23-year-old from Venezuela went 6-for-23 (.261) with Lancaster, belting 3 home runs while driving in 9. Adding in his time with Tri-City and Quad Cities, Alvarez was batting.290 with 16 runs, 6 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs and 16 RBIs prior to his promotion to Double-A
