Riders lead-off hitter Odubel Herrera went 5-for -5 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI. Jared Hoying drove in four runs, including a key two-run blast in the fifth inning off Hooks starter Matt Heidenreich (1-2). The top three in Frisco s lineup went 9-for-14 with four runs scored and seven RBIs. Heidenreich, who has allowed four home runs over his last two outings, yielded four runs on eight hits in five innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out five. RH Ruben Alaniz finished the game. DH Carlos Perez scored the lone Corpus Christi run of the game in the second. Perez and C Rene Garcia stroked consecutive singles off Ryan Feierabend (1-1). Enrique Hernandez then bounced into a double play, plating Perez while thwarting the rally. The Hooks managed to split the series despite generating just seven runs over the four-game set. PAGE 2 QUEVEDO QUEUED: RHP Carlos Quevedo is slated to be the first out of the pen tonight for the Hooks. He worked just 1 inning on Thursday, allowing an unearned run in the sixth. With one away in the frame, Hanser Alberto reached on an error and moved to second via an errant pickoff attempt by Quevedo. Alberto promptly scored on Odubel Herrera s single to left. He threw 2.2 scoreless innings of relief April 13 at Springfield, yielding 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 4. In his Double-A debut April 8 against Tulsa at Whataburger Field, Quevedo struck out three and did not walk a batter in 1.2 innings. He allowed three hits, including a two-out solo home run off the bat of Kent Matthes in the sixth. The 23-year-old out of Valencia, VZ, made 2 relief appearances for Lancaster before being promoted to the Hooks, tossing 3.1 scoreless against High Desert. Quevedo went 6-7 with a 3.22 ERA and 7 saves in 40 appearances between Lexington and Lancaster last year. He struck out 96 and walked 16 over 86.2 IP, finishing the year with a 1.09 WHIP. Quevedo averaged 1.7 walks per nine innings while posting a 10.0 K/9 IP ratio. He began the season with Lexington and earned South Atlantic League mid-season All-Star honors. Quevedo notched a scoreless streak of 25 consecutive innings from April 15 to May 18. He won all four of his decisions in May, crafting a 1.40 ERA in 9 appearances, striking out 19 while walking two in 19.1 innings. As a Legends reliever, Quevedo was 4-1 with a 2.38 ERA and 4 saves. Thirteen of his 21 appearances out of the pen were of the scoreless variety. Quevedo worked in 4 playoff games as the JetHawks captured the California League crown. WOJO TL PITCHER OF THE WEEK: RHP Asher Wojciechowski has been named Texas League Pitcher of the Week for April 15-21. Wojo held Tulsa to 4 hits over 5 scoreless innings in his start last Monday. He earned the victory on Saturday against Frisco, tossing four frames of shutout relief. Wojo did not issue a walk and struck out 8 over those 2 appearances, extending his scoreless innings streak to start the season to 18. The former first-round pick out of the Citadel paces the circuit with a 0.00 ERA. Wojo has not allowed a run since the fourth inning on August 20, 2012 at Springfield, a span that covers seven appearances and 31.0 innings. Here s a look at the streak: DATE OPPONENT W-L-S INNINGS R H SO BB 8/20/12 @Springfield ND 6.2 1 5 1 0 8/26/12 vs. San Antonio W 6.0 0 2 4 2 9/2/12 @ San Antonio ND 5.0 0 1 6 0 4/6/13 vs. Springfield W 5.0 0 1 7 1 4/11/13 @ Springfield S 4.0 0 1 4 3 4/15/13 @ Tulsa ND 5.0 0 4 3 0 4/20/13 vs. Frisco W 4.0 0 2 5 0 It is the longest streak in Corpus Christi Hooks history, surpassing the 26.0 consecutive scoreless frames that Chance Douglass posted from May 18-June 5, 2007. During this stretch, the club is 3-6, batting.201 (63-for-313) with 21 runs, 30 walks and 82 strikeouts. Corpus Christi has managed just four home runs, stranding 65 on base. The Hooks are averaging 2.3 runs, 3.3 walks, 9.1 strikeouts and 7.2 LOB over the last 9 games, hitting.166 (12-for-72) with runners in scoring position. Corpus Christi, which went 6-1 to open the season, now ranks first in the Texas League in strikeouts (145) and last in runs scored (47). The club s batting average of.227 is tied with Arkansas for 7th in the league - 1 point better than Springfield s.226 AVG. CATCHING UP: Corpus Christi fan favorite Jacob Goebbert, who was traded to Oakland earlier this month for lefty reliever Travis Blackley, faces his former team tonight in Midland. Goebbert is hitting.265 with 7 runs scored, 3 doubles, 2 home runs, 7 RBIs and 2 steals in 13 games for the RockHounds. The 13th-round pick in 2009 out of Northwestern hit a combined.291 with nine home runs and 54 RBIs in 130 games with Oklahoma City and Corpus Christi last season. Goebbert ranked among Texas League leaders in batting average (.304, 4th) and on-base percentage (.399, 4th). He was named TL Co-Player of the Week for April 5-16 (with Brandon Barnes), hitting.375 (12-for-32) with 2 home runs and 10 RBIs. Goebbert reached base safely in 22 straight road games from May 3-July 17, hitting.297 (22-for-74) with a.436 OBP. The 25-year-old out of Hampshire, IL, hit.305 with 103 runs, 41 doubles, 10 triples, 14 home runs and 87 RBIs over 2 seasons (189 G) with the Hooks. Corpus Christi hitting coach Tim Garland also readies for a reunion here in the Permian Basin. Garland is in his first season with the Astros organization following a 7-year run as a coach in the Oakland system. Garland served as hitting coach of the rival RockHounds over the past 2 seasons. The 15-year minor league veteran made his coaching debut in 2006 with Kane County of the Midwest League and tutored High-A Stockton hitters from 2007-10.
