1 Event Report and Results OGG Motoring Event 2016 I would like to thank all entrants very much for taking part in the 6 th Annual OGG Motoring Event and contributing to its success. Entrants assembled at the Equestrian Centre, Gary Neil (Fr 84) and his City to Surf Mobile Café met the needs of those requiring a kick start to the day. Following the drivers briefing, navigators read the course notes, the questions that were to be answered along the way, unjumbled the words challenge and worked on tactics. Cars then lined up to be flagged away by OGG President Margie Gillett (Cl 71). The high winds did not dampen enthusiasm. Section 1 This took drivers on a scenic drive crisscrossing the Moorabool and Barwon Valleys, passing through Moorabool, Maud, Lethbridge, Murgheboluc, Barrabool, Moriac to our morning tea destination, Woolbrae Farm the home of Suzie Batten and Ian Coltman (A 77). Entrants parked on the edge of the beautiful gardens and enjoyed morning tea in the most comfortable alfresco area. We would like to thank our most generous hosts for making their beautiful home and garden available as the morning tea destination. Entrants lined up at the morning tea stop Woolbrae Farm 1 P a g e

2 Section 2 Entrants departed Woolbrae Farm with map, instructions and questions in hand. The course took them via Connewarre, Breamlea, The Bluff at Barwon Heads, across the Barwon River, past Ocean Grove, through Wallington, Curlewis, Drysdale and Murradoc to Portarlington answering questions along the way. From Portarlington, entrants followed the coastline through Indented Head and St Leonards, the next stop was at the Rip View Lookout at Point Lonsdale, then on to the Heads Lookout at Queenscliff answering more questions. Our lunch destination was the foreshore park next to the famous Harry s Restaurant. The wind had died down and entrants enjoyed the lunchbreak in the company of mosquitos of most generous proportions. Lunch break at Queenscliff - Healey, MGA, The Sun Mog and Audi Quattro in the background Section 3 This took entrants on the shortest leg of the event, Queenscliff to the Oak Tree at GGS travelling via roads familiar to most, through Willington, Leopold, Moolap and through Geelong via Eastern Beach, and then a coastal drive around the North Shore of Corio Bay, Foreshore Road and into the School through the Lunan Gates. 3 3 rd Place Car 13 - Ian Waller (A 85) and Debbie Dromi in their 1989 Land Rover Perentie. You can see that Ian and Debbie were prepared to tackle even the toughest roads on the Bellarine Peninsula. = 2 nd place Car 5 - John (A 76) and Sue (A 76) Davis in their 1963 Porsche 356 BT6. John and Sue are regular entrants in the event this was second time on the podium. They arrived on the ferry from Tasmania on the morning of the event. 3 P a g e

4 = 2 nd place Car 15 Nicholas (Cu 82) and Christine Heath, regular entrants, in their litre V8 Jensen Interceptor. Like the Davis s this was their second time on the podium. The car sounded amazing - you will be able to see it in full competition mode at the Geelong Revival at Eastern Beach, on 25 th, 26 th and 27 th November. 1 st Place Car 9 - Belinda Jamison (Cl 86) and Jane Macdougall (Cl 86) in the beautiful 1958 BN6 100/6 Austin Healey seen here being flagged away by OGG President Margie Gillett (Cl 71). This was the second time that Belinda and Jane have won the event - congratulations. I note that Jane drove last year s winning car, 1965 MGB navigated by Anthony McKee. 4 P a g e

5 It was great to see such an interesting and varied range of cars. The only car from the USA, was the beautifully prepared 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray driven by Robert Wilson and ably navigated by Kimiko Wilson (Ga 07) Chevrolet Corvette Stingray By country of manufacture, cars from Great Britain, again, dominated the event: The oldest car in the field, the winning the 1958 Austin Healey of Belinda Jamison with Jane Macdougall navigating and finding the answers to the questions. Charles Henry s (FB 67) bright yellow Morgan, the Sun Mog, navigated by Rosie Fairbairn (Cl 68). David (P 70) and Judith Little drove their 1993 V12 Jaguar XJSS from Adelaide for the event. Angus Macdougall (C 89) drove his immaculate MGA MK II and had Bec Amos, handling the maps and answering the questions. 3 rd place-getters Ian Waller and Debbie Dromi drove the 1989 Land Rover Perentie, an amazing vehicle, equipped to go anywhere. = 2 nd place-getters Nicholas and Christine Heath were in their litre V8 Jensen Interceptor. Team Stafford regular entrants of the event, this year they were in the 1957 MK 7 Jaguar crewed by Michael and June Stafford with Christine Stevenson and Joe Mitchell enjoying the luxury of the armchair-like back seat whilst answering the questions. Belinda Henry, Clerk of course drove her newly acquired Litre MK 2 Jaguar on its first outing in her hands. One of Britain s finest, in the 1960 s the MK II Jaguar found favour with racing drivers, the police and criminals alike. 5 P a g e

6 Five entrants chose cars from Germany: First time entrants Cheryl Hunt and Christine Saunders drove a late model Audi. At the finish Cheryl advised that she and Christine had covered considerably more kilometres than the instructions had noted, but they had enjoyed every minute of the day. David (P 68) and Sally (Cl 71) McKay drove their rare 1982 Audi Quattro, the first 4WD supercar to hit the market, from their home at Beechworth. Tony Ward drove his beautiful yellow 1972 BMW 30 CSI. Rick Favaloro pointed Tony in the right direction. Tony Reilly (FB 68) drove his immaculate 1975 Mercedes Benz Coupe. = 2 nd place-getters John and Sue Davis drove their 1963 Porsche 356 BT6. John and Sue are regular entrants in the event and have featured in the results a number of times. They arrived on the ferry from Tasmania on the morning of the event. Unfortunately Andrew (M 70) Mackinnon s 1967 MK 2 Jaguar was not ready in time to start the event. Andrew joined us at Queenscliff to catch up with entrants and inspect the fleet. We look forward to seeing Andrew s MK 2 Jaguar next year. Angus Macdougall and Bec Amos MGA 1, 600 MK II In setting the course we seek to take entrants on the road less travelled, the aim is to use some interesting roads that entrants have not been on before. I would particularly like to thank my navigator, assistant and clerk of course - Belinda Henry - for her help in proof reading, preparing the course and marking the answers at the finish.
