Amanns Vonore, TN amanns@tds.net Jim and Diane de Ropp Knoxville, TN deropp@bellsouth.net John Sapper Knoxville, TN johnandgerda@gmail.com Dr. Jeffrey Erickson, noted Knoxville psychologist and President of the Smoky Mountain Jaguar Club, passed away on Monday, June 17. while on a trip in Mobile, AL. Jeff had been President since January 2012 and always brought a lighthearted and happy attitude to all the club events he attended. For many club members he is probably best known for his delightfully amusing President s Messages in the newsletter. But he, with the help of his wife Kathleen, also provided excellent leadership and encouragement to the club volunteers Jeffrey Erickson Newsletter Editor Cyrus Taft to produce a very successful 2012 Concours d Elegance in Greeneville. Jeff owned, showed, and drove a beautiful 1984 Claret XJ6 which won several awards in the SMJC Concours and other regional events. Here is a nice article about Jeff from the June 21 Knoxville News Sentinel paper. His obituary can be found here. There will be a memorial service for Jeff on Friday July 12, 4:00pm, at the Church of the Ascension, 800 S. Northshore Dr., Knoxville.

3 JCNA Challenge Championship by Gary Cobble, photos by Gerry Mitchell The Virginia Jaguar Club hosted the Jaguar Clubs of North America Challenge Championship in Richmond Virginia on June 12 thru 15. The Rally was held on Thursday, a Slalom on Friday, and the Concours on Saturday. According to Dick Maury, the Rally was very wet as a torrential storm struck during the event. He was in his E-type race car that had no side windows or wipers! He was soaked along with the race car. I arrived around 2:45 on Friday afternoon expecting to find Gerry and Becky Mitchell already there, but they weren t. It seems their Series III E Type wouldn t start that morning. Gerry finally got the V12 started and it ran fine for the 350 mile trip from Johnson City. I drove my Series III E Type from Knoxville, a 440 mile trip. On Saturday, Gerry and I both helped Judge the Concours. I am not sure what classes Gerry judged, but I judged C02 (XK 120) and D04 (Series II E Types). Over 100 Jaguars were on the grounds of the beautiful and historic Wyndham Virginia Crossings Resort, everything from an Austin 7 to the modern Jaguars. Ian Callum, the Chief Designer with Jaguar Cars, was the keynote speaker Saturday night at the Banquet. He, of course, discussed the development of the new F-Type that is just being introduced. Jaguar Cars had two on display during the Challenge Championship Event. It s quite a magnificent sportscar, in my opinion. Many thanks to the VJC, they did a great job in putting together this Event. The Austin 7 with a Swallow body. Smallest car I have ever seen. The stars of the show sported a fitting east Tennessee color. The simple interior of the racing D-type. 3

4 More Photos from the Challenge Championship Gary Cobble and the Mitchell s drove their Series 3 E-Types to Virginia. That s the spirit!! I always like the E-types bowing pictures. Hard to improve on this classic 120 coupe. Can you say eclectic? Robert Hall brought his 1994 XJS with a 6.0 liter V12. Orange was definitely the color of the day. 4

5 More Photos from the Challenge Championship F-Type wheel and Curvaceous D-Type. Ian Callum discusses the new F-Type design. 5
