1 July 2013 Volume #12 No. 7 P.O. Box 1234 Gainesville, GA An evening at Hennessy Jaguar, Duluth, Thursday, July 18th Summer Drive, August 17th, details to come. PRESIDENT S LETTER THERE S A NEW SHERIFF IN TOWN AT JCNA One of the cornerstones of JCNA is the national Concours program. It is currently centered around the local club Concours and is based on the general premise that a car judged at one club s Concours should receive a similar score when judged at another club s Concours. A key assumption to this premise is that there are competent judges at each club Concours to render a reasonable appraisal of any car presented to be judged. To this end JCNA has made, and is continuing to make, a concerted effort at the national level to improve overall Judges Training through a comprehensive Rule Book, more detailed and updated Guides for the various Jaguar models, and annual Judges Training and Test that stress the most recent rule book changes. JCNA is also taking steps that require a specific number of trained judges be present before a club request for National Sanctioning will be approved. This is all well and good but without someone in place to make Continued on page 2 Welcome new members Lory Healy of Cleveland, Craig Gustin of Atlanta and Gavin Mead of Atlanta. Join us on the web! An evening at Hennessy Jaguar, Duluth, Thursday, July 18th Submitted by Dave Kirkman 6:00 P.M. TO 8:00 HENNESSY JAGUAR, 3432 OLD NORCROSS ROAD, DULUTH Our club s July event is An Evening At Hennessy Jaguar on Thursday, July 18 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Mr. Brian Bruder, Hennessy Jaguar Sales Manager, tells me that he should have a nice selection of the fantastic new Jaguar F-Type sport car(test drive anyone?)along with all the other new Jaguars for us to preview. This event was well attended last year and we hope to have a good turnout again this year. Please note that Hennessy Jaguar is now located next door with the Land Rovers. RSVP is required by Monday, July 15 as our club will be serving catered light refreshments and hors d oeuvres. Please RSVP with me at or kirkmandav1@aol.com. Highlands Motoring Festival A Festival With Altitude (4,118 ft)! Submitted by John Baxa The Highlands Motoring Festival has evolved over the past several years and this year saw a notable change in the schedule as it was held in early June where in years past it has been held later in the summer. The featured marque this year was Porsche and there were many examples on display. Festival organizers restructured the classes to be judged and included touring, classic, street rod & custom, American sport & high performance, foreign sport, foreign classic, trucks/utilities, special interest (this year included a 1954 Muntz Road Jet) and marque of the year. Wow! What a great success the Car Show was. Great turnout and great vehicles to enjoy. Everything from some special interest cars and vintage motorcycles on the gym floor to equally beautiful cars outdoors. The vintage motorcycles riding around through town and the park, helped spark everyone s excitement for the show. When was the last time you saw a vintage Vincent, Continued on page 7 Congratulations Roy on a point class C-04 Championship Challenge Page 4 Seventh Annual Jags And Friends Picnic Submitted by John Baxa Attendance was excellent at our annual picnic on the banks of the Chattahoochee River thanks to the gracious hospitality of Vail and Linda Frost. As usual there was an eclectic collection of marques as many friends of club members brought interesting examples to share. This was the seventh year for this event and it has turned out to be one of our most popular in terms of attendance. Thanks again to Vail and Linda for providing the locale and Brian Hernan for coordinating food for the event. 2 President s letter continued from front cover sure that JCNA Concours rules are followed little has been accomplished. As the title of this month s President s Letter implies there is a new sheriff in town at JCNA to make sure Club Concours Sanctioning is done correctly and the published JCNA rules are followed before, during, and after the Concours prior to any official publication of the results. The new sheriff? None other than our own Pat Harmon! While it is still the local club s responsibility to seek sanctioning for a particular Concours date, provide updated records of trained judges, and send in Concours results it is Pat s responsibility to sanction the Concours per published JCNA Concours Rules. Pat will then review the results to again make sure JCNA Concours rules were adhered to BEFORE he gives his final approval and they are officially published. The job requires someone with a passion for the Concours; someone who is very detail-orientated, reads the rule book, understands how to implement the rules, and is willing to disallow a final score when the rules are not followed. Sounds like JCNA got the perfect guy and that is good news for all of us who want to see the JCNA Concours bar raised to a higher standard. Better hide the women and children there is a new sheriff in town at JCNA. All British Car Show to be held in Cumming Saturday, October 26th Submitted by Jay Franklin I have already contacted many of you, but wanted to officially send a link for the flyer for the All British Car Show to be held on Saturday, October 26th, 2013, at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit (ECOHS) in Cumming, GA. This show will be held in conjunction with our annual Red Door Festival that includes a pig roast, vendors, music and many other activities. The church is located at 724 Pilgrim Mill Road, just a short distance to the west of GA 400 off exit 16 (Pilgrim Mill Road). We have a nice grassy hill in front of the church reserved for this first-ever car show. I will also be sending some updates as we get closer to the show. Here is a link to the church website: Here is a link to the flyer on the website that can also be sent along by Please give Jay Franklin a call at if you have any questions or suggestions on how to make the show better.
