1 Coming up... Memory Lane Classic Car Museum Saturday, January 30, 2016 PRESIDENT S LETTER Our annual business meeting was held November 14th and we did have some new faces. The roster of candidates was reelected and the club is financially sound. Two thousand fifteen was a very successful year for club activities. We had at least one club function every month and enjoyed record attendance. Work was started on the 2016 calendar, with some new and interesting activites suggested. January will take us to Lake Oconee for lunch and a visit to a local car museum. February will feature our Valentines luncheon with perennial host Brian Hernan at the North Point Diner. As we went to press arrangements were being made for a March trip to Ron Green s fabulous automobile collection. Please check the NGJC Calendar frequently as adjustments are made monthly. Hope to see you soon, and wishing you and your family a wonderful Holiday season and a productive New Year. John W. Hollier Jaguar Returns To Racing With Its First All-Electric Car News Reports Jaguar hasn t been involved with motorsports since it offloaded its Formula 1 team to Red Bull, but it s about to come back in a big, big way. The automaker has announced that it s working on an all-electric car (its first) that will compete in Formula E third season, which kicks off in fall Jaguar is saying precious little about what that racer will be capable of, but the entry is possible because the beleaguered Trulli team is backing out of the league, leaving room for a new entrant. Continued on page 7 Memory Lane Classic Car Museum Saturday, January 30, 2016 Submitted by Dave Kirkman We will kick off our club s 2016 activities with a trip to Memory Lane Classic Cars located just outside of Eatonton, GA. Memory Lane features a large collection of American classic muscle cars, hot rods, and motorcycles. Our hosts for the day are club members David Singleton and Ena Hammond. They have made arrangements for us to tour Memory Lane from 11:00 am to noon and then for us to enjoy a buffet lunch at the Harbor Club on Lake December 2015 Volume #14 No. 12 Oconee near their summer home. The cost for the buffet is $20.50 per person and that includes the buffet, drink, tax, and service fee. Memory Lane is located on 170 Scott Road, Eatonton, GA. David and Ena will lead us to the club house at the Harbor Club from Memory Lane at 12:30pm. Additional details including a map to Memory Lane, and a RSVP date for lunch, will be in the January Newsletter. Certified Pre-owned Jaguars Available from Hennessy Jaguar Vinings Springs Point Mableton, GA North Georgia Jaguar Club Membership Renewal Due January 1, 2016 North Georgia Jaguar Club Membership Renewal For 2016 Submitted by The 2016 membership dues for NGJC will remain at $51 and are due by January 1. JCNA is intent on improving its administrative area and part of that is more timely issuing of new membership cards. To do that, they must have our rosters more promptly than in prior years. If you are going to renew your membership for 2016, please mail your dues by the middle of December. If you know you are not renewing, a quick to Lynn Cunningham or would be appreciated so that our ing of the roster to JCNA will not be delayed. We have to send a roster to JCNA with dues payments for each member on the roster in early 2016 so it is very important that we have all our dues collected by January 10. There are now two ways to pay: by check or by PayPal. If paying with PayPal, please go to and click on the Membership tab at the top of the page and follow the directions. Or, if you want to pay for the Christmas Party and your membership at the same time go to the Calendar tab then click on Map on page 7 Continued on page 2 HENNESSY JAGUAR LAND ROVER GWINNETT PRE-OWNED VEHICLES STOCK # YEAR MODEL EXT. / INT. If paying by check, please make your check payable for $51 to the North Georgia Jaguar Club and mail it to VP Membership 1250 Lake Charles Drive Roswell, GA If your payment does not reach us by January 10, you will be dropped from the renewal roster which we send to JCNA. If you rejoin later, we have to reinstate your membership which takes the time of people who are doing all this voluntarily. Do your part and make your payment when you read this. In making your decision on renewal, you should consider the following tangible benefits of club membership: (1) discounts on repairs and parts from Hennessy Jaguar, (2) rebates from Jaguar on purchases of new Jaguar automobiles available only to members of JCNA, (3) subscription to the Jaguar Journal published by JCNA, and (4) access to the knowledge accumulated by members of NGJC during years of experience with Jaguars. The discount from Hennessy on a $500 repair would more than pay for your annual membership dues. NGJC Club 2015 Business Meeting Summary November 14, 2015 Submitted by Lory Healy President John Hollier called the Annual Business Meeting to order at 10:10AM at the Hilton Gardens Hotel, Alpharetta, GA John Hoffman, V.P. Concours, said we had a good Concours event, over 100 people attended the brunch (125 paid), 51 cars were on the field, up from last year, and many were in the display class. It was suggested that if someone has 2 display cars, that they should pay for the 2 cars and they would be given brunch tickets for 4 people. The reception the night before at Luna s in Gainesville had a good attendance, mostly positive comments about how the format of an open buffet was more conducive to socializing than previous sit-down dinners. Craig Kerins, Chief Judge, said we still had problems with late Concours registrations many registered the wrong car, late, which caused chaotic positioning at the end. He went on to say that JCNA has had many problems with their website and registering new members, but that our Concours went off well considering the difficulties. Also, JCNA is concerned with the disparity of the quality of judging at the various clubs, that some clubs are easier on the judging and awarding the points and JCNA is trying to make regional judging standards the norm and upgrade the requirements so the point system is more consistent. Lynn Cunningham, Treasurer, went over the financial report stating that income from annual membership Continued on page 6 Officers President John Hollier drjhollier@att.net, Vice President John Hoffman 2jhoffs@att.net Vice-President for Activities OPEN VP-Membership jwbaxa@mindspring.com Treasurer Lynn Cunningham lynn.cunningham9@gmail. com The Old Rallymaster Dave Kirkman kirkmandav1@aol.com Webmaster Dick Maury rcmaury@bellsouth.net Secretary Lory Healy lbhjazz7@gmail.com Chief Judge, Craig Kerins, craigkerins@knology.net Newsletter Editor: jwbaxa@mindspring.com Newsletter Publisher: John C. 4 Holiday Party A Smashing Success Submitted by John Hollier Naylor Hall was dressed in its holiday finest. A beautiful Christmas tree and lovely decorations all around. Sunny Bailey, owner-operator, personally oversaw the entire evening. Chef Carey delivered a scrumptious meal including forbidden desserts. I saw more than one cat lover hitting the buffet line more than once! Our own Brian Ulrich provided soothing seasonal music during the cocktail hour, and then played enchanting music to dance to after dinner. My wine glass mysteriously kept filling up no matter how fast I drank. I tried to dance with all the pretty girls; they all looked so beautiful in their finest evening wear. Even the guys cleaned up well. I welcome any feedback from those attending, as I plan for next year s celebration. Happy New Year All! Page 4
5 Hilton Head Concours Weekend 2015 Submitted by Dave Kirkman The North Georgia Jaguar Club was well represented again this year with members having cars on the field for both Saturday s Car Club Show Case and Sunday s Concours d` Elegance. Carolyn, Marvin, and Marty Sikes headed up the Atlanta Classic Thunderbird Club s participation in the Saturday show with twelve Thunderbirds on the field. Carolyn said she was very pleased to be presented the car club showcase spirit award. Lynn and Linda Newport s 2002 Thunderbird was honored along with a 1985 Early Bird showing the evolution of that marque on Saturday. James and Nina Potter brought their V8 powered 1968 E-Type FHC and showed it in the Modified British Car Class on Saturday. Chrysler was the Feature Marque for the Sunday Concours d` Elegance and John and Debbie Wagner showed their 1935 DeSoto Airflow Sedan in the Chrysler 1916 to 1973 Class. Robert Farris and Kent and Melissa Hussey both won Palmetto Awards in the English Sports Cars Jaguar Class. Robert with his 1954 XK 120 SE and Kent and Melissa with their 1961 E-Type FHC. The Hussey s also showed their 1965 Corvette in the Sports Car Class-American where it was judged best in class and won the coveted Blue Ribbon. Ivan and Myrna Ruiz took a Palmetto Ribbon in the Spots Cars International Class with their 1970 Maserati Ghibli Spider and W.L. and Carol Wagnon showed their 1958 Alfa Giulietta Spider in the same class. Several club members including Vail and Lind Frost and Frank and Gail Mitchell were there enjoying the classic cars under the clear and sunny weekend skies. Craig Kerins, NGJC Chief Judge, headed up a team to select the JCNA President s Award that was presented by George Camp to Chris and Caryn Lapinski and their Litre Jaguar DHC. David and Beverly Kirkman were also in attendance. David served as a Judge for Class 08B3-English Sports Cars-Jaguar while Beverly enjoyed the day visiting with club members. Page 5

There are no special rules spelled out with the club stating how the treasury needs to be used, and the good turnout at events and functions usually break even. John Hollier went over the details for the Christmas/Holiday party, to be held at Naylor Hall, Roswell, December 13th, 6:30PM cocktails, 7:30PM dinner, at a price per person of $55.00 with a cash bar. said we currently have 166 memberships (family), we will keep the dues at $51.00 each and that the club is a big financial sponsor of the Christmas party. JCNA has changed the Jaguar discount program. Any member at large belonging to JCNA but not part of a club must be a member for 6 months with JCNA as a member-at-large or member of a local club to participate in the benefits of membership such as a discount for purchasing a new car or service at Jaguar dealerships. 7 Continued from Page 1 Jaguar Returns To Racing With Its First All-Electric Car News Reports Nick Rogers, Group Engineering Director for Jaguar Land Rover, said: I am proud to announce Jaguar s return to racing with an entry into the innovative FIA Formula E championship. Electric vehicles will absolutely play a role in Jaguar Land Rover s future product portfolio and Formula E will give us a unique opportunity to further our development of electrification technologies. The Championship will enable us to engineer and test our advanced technologies under extreme performance conditions. It is my belief that over the next five years we will see more changes in the automotive world than in the last three decades. The future is about being more connected and more sustainable; electrification and lightweight technologies are becoming more important than ever as urbanisation continues to increase. Formula E has recognised and reacted to these trends and the championship s exciting and pioneering approach is the perfect fit for our brand. This isn t the sum total of the company s EV efforts, either. Although it s not mentioning any plans, Jaguar is swearing that electric cars will absolutely play a role in its lineup. The Formula E racer is really a precursor that will help Jag refine its technology under extreme conditions before it hits regular roads. If you end up driving an F-Type EV a few years from now, you ll know something about its roots. Continued from Page 1 Page 7
