6 BCCC Meeting Notes November 13, 2006 For updates/information on upcoming events and current/past BCCC newsletters, please check out the BCCC website at Guests: --Bill Absher/Valley Cycle. Bill was there to let us know about his upcoming S.O.S. Toy Run that will be held on Sun., Dec. 3 rd. It starts at 10am from Bill Wright Toyota in the AutoMall and ends at Valley Cycle on Buck Owens Blvd. This event also benefits the Salvation Army and they want just toy donations. Event Review/Wrap-Up: --5 th Highway 99 Cruise n Show, Fri.-Sun., Oct , downtown & Kern Co. Fairgrounds. Grant Schofield reported that the rain on Friday hurt attendance as far as out-of-town participants but there was still a good turnout on Saturday. There were (54) PT Cruisers at this event. A total of 602 where entered. There were (78) motor homes that took advantage of the accommodations at the K.C. Fairgrounds. Event will be there (Fairgrounds) next year th Chevrolets Ltd. Car Show & Fun Day, Sun., Oct. 15, Lake Ming. President Homer Walker reported that it was great to see the car clubs that went to both events (theirs and Highway 99) on that same weekend. Over $6k was collected. He did not have an exact breakdown of how money would be distributed to their charities but said this would be done in January. --Farmer Boys October Car Club Night, Sat., Oct. 21. Bakersfield Camaro Club met up with a family from Australia that had a 16 year-old son who was participating in the Make-A-Wish program. He has lymphoma. The family was in town for the Famoso event and had built a car for drags. The Bakersfield Camaro Club had taken him out to Famoso for the drags and also brought him to the Farmer Boys event and the family thoroughly enjoyed both the events and the hospitality of car enthusiasts of Bakersfield. The Make-A-Wish program gave him $3k to purchase car parts for the drag car the family was building. This young man was presented with an event shirt signed by many of the top drag drivers at the Farmer Boys event. It was a very touching night to witness. --NOR Chamber s Car Show/Street Faire, Sat., Oct. 28, No. Chester Avenue. Sherry Aal reported that even though only six pre-registered they ended up with (50) cars participate. Stan was happy with the outcome. Wants to do event again next year and open up the streets a little more and wants to be known for the car show with the BIGGEST trophies! --8 th Goodguys Fuel & Gas Finals, Fri.-Sun., Nov. 3-5, Famoso. Gil Edmondson reported there was some good racing on Sunday. There will be three nostalgia events under NHRA at Famoso next year. Upcoming Events: --El Camino Club s Cruise for the Needy, Sat., Nov. 18, 10-10:30am, Fruitvale- Norris Park. Richard Lopez reported the event was FREE to participate in but food donations were welcome. They plan to make up baskets for (20) families to

7 give Turkey dinners to. Cruise will return around 12:30pm-1pm to Fruitvale- Norris Park for a potluck lunch rd Greater Bakersfield Toy Run/Food Drive, Sun., Dec. 10 th, assemble at Beach Park from 7am-10am. Cruise leaves Beach Park at 10am sharp and proceeds out to Kern County Fairgrounds. Fred Evenson reported he needs help from car people to park cars at the Fairgrounds. He needs (6) people. If interested, contact Fred at 661/ Fred also reports that the Salvation Army is in need of volunteers to help assemble all the donations after this run is over. Contact the Salvation Army at if you can help out. Other Items of Interest: --FYI Due to the weather, Farmer Boys Car Club Night will not be happening for months of January and February so the next one will be Sat., Mar. 3 rd. However, everyone is more than welcome to still stop by and see Adrian from time to time for a yummy meal and to come in from the cold!! --Golden Empire Mustangs donation. Mike Horton reported that the Golden Empire Mustangs recently made a $100 donation to Jim Burke Foundation. Their club holds their meetings at Jim Burke Ford. --Super Cruise 07 Event Update: Gil Edmondson reported the 2007 event will be a Poker Run and a Car Show, both taking place on Sat., Feb. 10 th at the Kern County Fairgrounds in conjunction with the Central Valley Sportsman and RV Show. Gil brought event entry forms and sponsor forms to pass out at the November meeting and go over. Old Friends of Bakersfield is hosting the event. They are currently looking for event sponsors and it costs $300 to be one. He encouraged all BCCC car clubs to be an event sponsor since this is a BCCC event. All event sponsors need to be in by Jan. 1 st to be on the event t- shirt. OFOB is also looking for anyone interested in being a Vendor/Merchant Sponsor and this will cost $50 per plaque. Deadline for Merchant Plaques is Jan. 15 th. And, of course, they are looking for raffle donations for the event, so it s not too early to start gathering items for the raffle. And, last, but certainly not least, they are needing items for the Goodie Bags. Goodie Bag stuffing night will be determined at the December BCCC meeting. See how your club can be involved in the 2007 event. --The November Door Prize was won by Richard Lopez/El Camino Club. Past door prize winners who need to bring a door prize now are Mike Horton along with Richard. --Classic/Vintage 1950 s car needed: Anyone know of anyone who owns a 1950 s Cadillac or Riviera type of vehicle that would be available to chauffer a couple celebrating their 50 th wedding anniversary from SW Bakersfield to Hodel s on Sat., Dec. 30 th? This would be a pick-up and drop off assignment (transportation after event is provided. Pick-up time that day is 4:40pm. If interested, please contact either Rebecca or Ron Anderson to discuss fee.
