1 The LI NS That ROAR Volume 11 Issue 1 District 26-M2 August 2018 District Governor Lion Joseph Foster 1st Vice District Govenor Lion George Winkeler Jr. 2nd Vice District Governor Lion Sandee Marshall Cabinet Secretary Lion Michelle Foster Cabinet Treasurer Lion Dennis Hemsath District 26-M2 Governor Joe s Message Greetings Fellow Lions, The Lions year is off to an exciting start. Lion Michelle and I along with the DG Team have been attending Governor Visits and traveling all around the state to do FUN things with the LIONS The District Convention Team is working hard to get the convention set up and we hope to have most of it finalized by Oct cabinet meeting as the Convention has moved to February 16 th & 17 th, I am also working on a LEADER DOG trip in 2019, if you would like to go, please contact myself or Lion Michelle as the details come out soon. Look forward to seeing everyone at the Oct cabinet meeting at the TIMBERS in Eureka. Yours in Lionism, DG Lion Joe Foster District Governor 26-M2
2 Hello Lions of 26-M2, This Lions year is starting out Great!! DG Joe has things going full steam ahead and VDG Sandee and myself are all onboard and hanging on; it's going to be a fun ride and I know we are looking to him for more of his leadership and wisdom. Lion Jennifer and myself just got back from the VDG weekend at Leader Dog, what a fantastic day. Lion Jennifer was asked to go up the following weekend to help out with the second group and to also give Lion Phyllis from 26-M6, a hand getting Future Leader Dog "Joplyn" home to Missouri to start her learning process. She is a gorgeous 8 pound black lab that has a lot of spunk. I even got in to the training when they stopped by on their way to Springfield and I was trying to get this dog, the size of my foot, to climb the concrete steps in the front of our house. I wonder if Joplyn will ever know how as a Leader Dog, she will change someone's life? Speaking of changing lives, keep us informed when you are in need of help in fundraising activities. We want to help with your dreams and desires to change lives. See you soon, keep up the Great work and Thank You for being a Lion! Aspire to Inspire, 1 st VDG Lion George Winkeler Jr. 1 st Vice District Governor 26-M2 Fellow Lions, As I was deciding what to write for this edition of the Lions That Roar, I was enjoying one of my favorite ways to relax -- crossword puzzles. But I was really stumped by one clue that I thought should be easy: 43-down, five letters, Men s service club. Imagine how surprised, and disappointed, I was to learn that the answer was LIONS! Women have been admitted to Lions Clubs International since 1987 (31 years) and currently comprise 29% of our District membership. District 26-M2 has a history of recognizing the value of women as members and in leadership positions. But we can do better. In the coming months, look for more information from our first female International President Gudrun Yngvadottir from Iceland about her new initiative New Voices, Beyond the Horizon-- for bringing gender parity to Lions. Your District Governor team is working hard to be an effective team and I look forward to meeting and getting to know each of you better! Yours in Lionism, 2 nd VDG Lion Sandee Marshall 2 nd Vice District Governor 26-M2 Page 2 of 16

14 Webster Groves Donates to the Affton Fire Department Capt. Jim Cove, Eng. Steve Westbrook, Pvt. Scott Manning & Pvt. Ian Shay of the Affton Fire Protection District accepted the following from the Webster Groves Lions Sandy Halama and Fred Yoder: Eight (8) upgrade kits for their CPR mannequins which will allow the monitoring of 8 individual CPR students at one time via a smartphone, and will conform their mannequins to the updated certification requirements. (500) File of Life refrigerator magnetic pouches to be distributed by first responders in Affton. This magnet is a pouch which contains medical, health, contact and other information to help first responders quickly. The File of Life magnet is placed on the refrigerator door with the form completed by the recipient. A door or window decal alerts the first responders to the availability of this magnet. For those of you who may have volunteered at our carnival this year, or at our monthly BBQs, thank you. These events make donations such this possible. Page 14 of 16
15 Fenton Lions Present Local Business Owner with a Melvin Jones Fellowship Award Denny Dennis, Jr., the owner of Denny Dennis Sporting Goods in Fenton, Mo., has assisted the Fenton Lions Club with a fundraising event each year for many years. Not only has he allowed the Fenton Lions Club to purchase a hunting rifle at a discounted rate to raffle off as a fundraiser, he has also allowed Fenton Lions members to sell raffle tickets at his store. Thanks to Denny Dennis, the Fenton Lions Club have netted at least $2,000 each year for 10+ years. Mr. Dennis owns a store for the outdoor enthusiast, whereby great fishing and hunting products can be purchased. He is very knowledgeable about guns, rifles and archery equipment, to assist customers with their wants and needs. However, beyond his business, he obviously has a desire to help people in the community. As a token of our gratitude, the Fenton Lions Club presented Mr. Dennis with a Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. Denny Dennis Sporting Goods is located at 1 Gravois Road, Fenton. Consider patronizing Denny Dennis for all of your outdoor needs. Lion Keith Speckhals of the Fenton Lions Club, along with ten other Fenton Lions members, presents the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award to Denny Dennis, Jr. Page 15 of 16
