4 Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at Commander Shea Field Nestled on a corner of the Boston College campus with a sweeping view of the Boston skyline, the Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at Shea Field is the home of the Boston College baseball team. Shea Field is named after Commander John Shea U.S.N., who played at Boston College from Shea passed away on September 15, 1942 when the naval carrier Wasp was torpedoed during the Guadal Canal campaign. The diamond at Shea Field is named for Eddie Pellagrini. Pellagrini was Boston College s baseball coach for 31 years, during which time he accumulated 359 victories and coached three World Series Teams. Shea Field has a natural playing surface composed of Kentucky bluegrass. Pellagrini Diamond at Shea Field has a capacity of 1,000. Driving Directions The GPS address for Pellagrini Diamond is 140 Commonwealth Avenue, Chestnut Hill, MA Please refer to Appendix A for directions to campus as well as Appendix B for a campus map. Parking Team Parking: Visiting Baseball teams must direct their bus driver to park their bus/vans in the designated parking areas marked by A-frame signage. An Athletic Operations staff member will be on site to assist parking the bus/vans. Please refer to Appendix B for a map of the team bus parking location. Fan Parking BASEBALL SPECIFIC INFORMATION Campus parking lots open for event attendees 1.5 hours prior to the start of the event. Individuals attending these events should park in the Beacon St. garage levels 3 & 4 or in the Commonwealth Avenue Garage above level 3. Parking Monday - Friday at 5:00 PM is $3.00/hour to park in the garages with a daily maximum rate of $ Parking Friday at 5:00 PM - Sunday is $5.00 per exit. No overnight parking in garages is permitted. Tailgating is prohibited. Pre-Game Timing Protocol A sample pre-game timeline can be found can be found in Appendix E and F. This will include batting practice times.

5 Practice Requests Please complete and return the enclosed Visiting Team Questionnaire with your practice requests as soon as possible to Mike Morris, Operations Intern and Visiting Team Liaison ; ). Laundry Accommodations Our equipment staff will gladly handle your laundry needs with advance notification. Please contact Stephen Remick ; ) with your laundry requests. Locker Rooms Locker rooms are NOT located at the game field. Locker rooms are located a short distance from the game field in Conte Forum (Please refer to the map in Appendix B). To request use of a locker room please contact Mike Morris in the Athletic Operations office (morrisgl@bc.edu ; ). Player/Coach Ejection Policy If ejected, a player, coach, or team representative must leave the field and dugout area immediately and is not allowed to communicate with the teams or umpires. The ejected individual must remain out of sight and sound for the remainder of the contest, per NCAA rules. The individual will be escorted to the team locker room, and remain there until the completion of the game. Sports Medicine The Athletic Training Room is located in room 124 on the North Side of Conte Forum and will open two (2) hours prior to the start of the game. Eric Crest, Assistant Director, Sports Medicine, will contact each school s athletic trainer prior to their game to discuss specific athletic training needs. Please contact Eric Crest (eric.crest@bc.edu ; ) with any medical questions. Tickets There is no admission charged at Commander Shea Field. Uniforms BASEBALL SPECIFIC INFORMATION Boston College will wear white jerseys on Friday, maroon jerseys on Saturday, and gold jerseys on Sunday for all ACC Conference series. BC will wear white pants for all days. Visiting Team Dugout/Bullpen The visiting team dugout is located on the 1 st Base side of the field. The visiting team bullpen is located just beyond the left field wall. Handheld radios will be provided for communication between the dugout and bullpen.

6 BASEBALL SPECIFIC INFORMATION GROUND RULES Eddie Pellagrini Commander Shea Field DUGOUTS Any ball that bounces or fly s into the dugout area, or strikes the dugout center supports or back wall is a dead ball. If a ball strikes the top fascia or the front of the concrete lip and bounces out it is in play. LEFT FIELD LINE A dead ball area has been established to the left of third base just past the stands down t he left field line. A player may not field the ball in the dead ball area, but may catch the ball continue into the dead area and throw from that area. A ball that strikes and stays/sits in the third base protective netting is in play, if it strikes and g oes through or under it is a dead ball. RIGHT FIELD TARP If a batted or thrown ball bounces or fly s behind the right field tarp it is considered a dead ball. A player may lean on or over, but may not climb on the tarp to field a batted or thrown ball. RIGHT FIELD FOUL POLE If a batted ball strikes the concrete support beyond the right field foul pole bounces into the batting cage area it is a foul ball. If it strikes and bounces into the field of play or out of the stadium it is a home run. SCOREBOARD Any batted ball that strikes the outfield scoreboard on the fly is a home run. FENCE Any ball that leaves the field of play by going under the fence down the first base line or between the back stop and dugout wall is a dead ball.

8 SEVERE WEATHER POLICY Boston College has several services that act as early warning systems for severe weather which include: Meteorlogix Weather Sentry Reporting System/Text Messaging Thorgurd Lightning Prediction Device PRIOR TO THE EVENT: Event weather forecasts will be monitored throughout the day by the event manager and sport administrator via the internet and through the use of a weather service. Ninety (90) minutes prior to the start of the event Sports Medicine will begin to monitor for severe weather via an electronic lightning detector at the field level. The umpires, home coaches and visiting coaches will be made aware of the Boston College severe weather policy both prior to the game and when they arrive on site day of game. ONCE SEVERE WEATHER IS DETECTED: Once it has been determined that lightning is within 30 miles of the event, the Game Manager will notify the umpires, both head coaches and any on site administrators from both teams that Boston College administration is tracking severe weather in the area. ONCE LIGHTNING IS WITHIN FIFTEEN (15) MILES OF THE STADIUM: The Game Manager will notify the umpires, both head coaches and any on site administrators from both teams at the next stoppage of play that lightning is within 15 miles of the playing field and postponement due to weather might be possible. When lightning is detected within 15 miles of Shea Field, the public address announcer will make the following announcement to inform those in attendance that inclement weather including lightning is within 15 miles. LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE? MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE? BOSTON COLLEGE HAS RECEIVED NOTIFICATION FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE THAT SEVERE WEATHER INCLUDING LIGHTNING IS WITHIN 15 MILES OF SHEA FIELD. DUE TO THE IMPENDING WEATHER, IT IS RECOMMENDED FOR YOUR SAFETY THAT YOU TEMPORARILY EXIT THE STADIUM AND SEEK SHELTER. WE ARE SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION.

9 SEVERE WEATHER POLICY WHEN LIGHTNING IS DETECTED WITHIN SIX (6) MILES OF COMMANDER SHEA FIELD: The Game Manager will notify the umpires, both head coaches and any on site administrators from both teams at the next stoppage of play that lightning is within 6 miles of the playing field and we are required to halt the game due to weather. When lightning is detected within 6 miles of Shea Field, the public address announcer will make the following announcement to inform those in attendance that inclement weather including lightning is within 6 miles. LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE? MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE? BOSTON COLLEGE GAME MANAGEMENT HAS RECEIVED NOTIFICATION FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE THAT SEVERE WEATHER INCLUDING LIGHTNING IS WITHIN 6 MILES OF SHEA FIELD. DUE TO THE IMPENDING WEATHER, PLAY IN TODAY S GAME HAS BEEN TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED AND TEAMS HAVE BEEN DIRECTED TO THEIR LOCKER ROOM AREAS. FOR YOUR SAFETY PLEASE EXIT YOUR SEAT AND SEEK SHELTER. WE ARE SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION. REASSESSING THE SITUATION: Once severe weather is at least six (6) miles from the venue and it is safe to return to the facility, an "all clear" will be sounded. An "all clear" is indicated by 3 short horn blasts on the game scoreboard. There will be a 5 to10 minute evaluation/warm up period after the all-clear signal has been given before competition is resumed. The length of time will be determined by the game officials and game manager. RE-ENTRY ANNOUNCEMENT: LADIES AND GENTLEMEN MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE. THE SEVERE WEATHER HAS PASSED AND THE FACILITY IS READY FOR RE-ENTRY. WE WILL RESUME PLAY AFTER A BRIEF WARM UP PERIOD FOR BOTH TEAMS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION."

11 EMERGENCY PROTOCOL In the event of an injury: First-responder: Sports Medicine Team Athletic Trainer If additional care is needed the trainer will signal to an operations staff member to call BCPD (2.4444) BCPD will request an ambulance and guide it to the proper location Student athletes will be transported to either St. Elizabeth s Medical Center or Beth Israel Deaconess A team representative will travel with the student athlete Appropriate BC Athletic Administrators will be notified. For the Emergency Room, go straight at the third light, drive past the Medical Center (on your right), turn right at the next light (Warren St.), and follow signs for the Emergency Room. To reach the main entrance of the Medical Center, go straight at the third light, drive past the Medical Center (on your right), turn right at the next light (Warren St.) and the main drive will be your first right. Proceed to the 4- way intersection and turn right onto Chestnut Hill Ave. At the next set of lights, turn left onto Beacon St. Proceed 1.6 miles and then turn right onto Harvard St. Take your first left onto Longwood Ave and after.7 miles turn right onto Pilgrim Road. Proceed to the Emergency Room.
