TRANSACTION: Today, the Phillies recalled catcher Andrew Knapp from Lehigh Valley (AAA) Knapp batted.250 (5-20), 2B, RBI, 5 BB in his six games with the IronPigs. HAPPY NOLA DAY: The Phillies send their ace and Cy Young hopeful, Aaron Nola, to the hill tonight against the Mets in Flushing Per Baseball Reference, Nola leads all major league pitchers in WAR (9.3), in front of both Max Scherzer (8.3) and Jacob degrom (8.2) who rank 2nd and 3rd respectively In the past 50 years (since 1969), only four other pitchers 25 or younger have had an ERA and WHIP as good or better than Nola s (currently 2.10, 0.97) in a full season Clayton Kershaw in 2013 (Cy Young), Pedro Martinez in 1997 (Cy Young), Dwight Gooden in 1985 (Cy Young), Vida Blue in 1971 (Cy Young and MVP) With just under a month left in the season, Nola has already had 15 starts in which he has surrendered 4 hits or fewer, joining Ken Howell (15 in 1989) & Grover Cleveland Alexander (16 in 1915) as the only Phillies to do so since 1893, per Elias Nola s.199 OPP AVG is currently 2nd-best by any qualifying Phillies starter since at least 1913, trailing only Alexander s.190 OPP AVG in 1915 Among all ML starters, Nola currently ranks 3 rd in win % (.789), OPP SLG % (.296) & OPP OPS (.554), 5 th in ERA (2.23), T-5 th in IP (181.2), 6 th in WHIP (0.97) & OPP AVG (.198), T-6 th in wins (15) and 10 th in SO (188).
