3 Program Update/Overview Welcome to the 2015 CAA Baseball and Softball Season In-House, Storm Travel, West Metro Thunder, Vortex Improved program-more volunteer opportunities, sponsorship program, and Dugout Club Key Updates Expanded Field Space by working with Victoria/Carver County New dugouts on Lake Ann field 5 Expanded winter/spring training at Pitch2Pitch (working new contract) Hosting new Chanhassen Challenge softball tournament Coach background checks and Travel ASA ACE Certification New Mission & Values

10 Minnesota Vortex Program The Minnesota Vortex is supported by the Chanhassen Athletic Association (CAA), Chaska Youth Softball Association (CYSA), Minnetonka Girls Fastpitch Associatino (MGSA) and Plymouth Wayzata Youth Softball Association / Wayzata Fastpitch (PWYSA) The Minnesota Vortex strongly supports multi-sport athletes at the 14U, 16U and 18U level. While the Vortex provides the opportunity for year round training, we also know the importance of well rounded, confident athletes and citizens. Therefore our off-season work consists of individual instruction, clinics, dome ball and team practices but also takes into consideration the young athletes 2nd sport and other community based commitments. The typical Vortex player is an athlete interested in playing softball at the highest level, who wants to be challenged and gain knowledge in a positive environment. The Vortex teams are made up of great players, but just as importantly, great friends and teammates. The Vortex is committed to providing excellent coaching and player development. An OPEN tryout is being held for all interested players in the Fall Chanhassen Baseball/Softball

11 Travel Team Selection Purpose: Teams are selected to ensure that both the team and individual development needs are best served at the appropriate level of competition. The teams are selected to ensure that the talent distribution on each team is appropriate and well balanced. Team formation differsslightly at each level of play and requires the judgment of the team selection committee for optimal results. The team selection committee uses the tryout results and previous-year coach evaluations as input for individual team placement. Selection Process Top 8 evaluated players from evaluation day automatically make the first team. Head Coachof first team is selected from parents of top 8 players (head coach may be selected from next 4 players if no one from top 8 players registered and were selected by coach committee) Final roster spots for first team filled by head coach from list created by player agent of next highest evaluated players. (This list will include at least 6 next highest evaluated players and players within next appropriate scoring range determined by player agent and Travel Softball Director) First team approved by Player Agent, Softball President, and Travel Softball Director After first team is selected, next highest 8 evaluated players automatically make the second team. Second team Head Coachis selected from parents of top 8 players (head coach may be selected from next 4 players if no one from top 8 players registered and were selected by coach committee) Final roster spots for second team filled by head coach from list created by player agent of next highest evaluated players. (This list will include at least 6 next highest evaluated players and players within next appropriate scoring range determined by player agent and Travel Softball Director) Second team approved by Player Agent, Softball President, and Travel Softball Director Same process used if there is a third team Pitchers Pitching is essential to any softball team and in effort to provide as many opportunities to develop pitchers; we have process for assigning pitchers The pitchers will be ranked by evaluations. The top 2 pitchers will automatically make the first team even if the either pitcher is not in the top 8 overall evaluated players. If a pitcher is not in the top 8, they are counted as one of the manager s picks. The remaining pitchers will be assigned evenly across the remaining teams (i.e. if 6 pitchers evaluate, 3 per team with 2 teams or 2 per team with 3 teams) A pitcher who evaluates on the second team or lower as a pitcher, but makes a higher team as a position player has the optionto play for the higher team. That team is not required to have that player pitch if they choose to play on the higher team. There is no guarantee that this player will pitch. A pitcher can opt to play with the second or lower team where she will be one of the 2 starting pitchers even if she is an automatic top 8 pick for the first team. Catchers A catcher can opt to play with the second or lower team where she will be one of the 2 starting catchers even if she is an automatic top 8 pick for the higher level team. A catcher is not automatically placed on a team as part of their catcher evaluation. The catcher's team selection is based on their overall player evaluation. 11

14 CONCUSSION SAFETY Minnesota Legislature Concussion Law Passed September 1 st, 2011 Mandates: All coaches and officials receive concussion training and education (3-year intervals) Coaches MUST remove athlete from activity if they exhibit signs or behaviors or are suspected of sustaining a concusion Law requires health care professional signature to return to play if athlete is removed CAA has already instituted training-available on our Website for anyone-provided by Centers for Disease Control All aspects of the law will be STRICTLY Upheld by CAA baseball and softball

15 VOLUNTEERING Volunteer Board Member League Volunteer Director Shannon Brown Family Volunteer Fee $150 volunteer fee will be destroyed at the end of the season upon completion of the required 5 hours of service. Hours will be updated monthly on the CAA Website. Final hours need to be completed by 9/1/15 Fee is per family in CAA

16 How Do I Volunteer Volunteer link on CAA website Volunteer expectations 5-hours per family VOLUNTEERING Spontaneous help is always welcome, but does not qualify as volunteer hours Volunteer hours are recruited by Division Volunteer Coordinator or via Volunteerspot When you apply to become a volunteer, you give the our League organization the right to conduct necessary background checks.

Age coordinators will be the only people submitting names for head coaching and assistant coaches. To qualify for volunteer hours, the job(s) must be posted on Volunteer System. If it is not in system, than it does not qualify.

22 Dugout Club The Dugout Club is a booster club created to support diamond sports within the Chanhassen High School boundaries. It s primary objectives include maintenance and improvement of the stadium complex at Chanhassen High School as well as additional community development projects to provide safe, playable fields and practice facilities and equipment for the baseball and softball teams within our member communities

24 Stadium Walk The Dugout Club will be selling a limited number of bricks to build the x 8 sidewalk panel for The Stadium Walk at the Chanhassen diamond sport complex. LEAVE YOUR MARK ON HISTORY Help sponsor ongoing improvements to the Storm diamond sport facilities by purchasing an engraved brick. Personalized bricks will be placed at the entrance to the stadium complex as each 10 x 10 sidewalk panel is sold out. Your brick will provide ongoing financial resources to support ongoing and future facility improvements 2012 Stadium Walk
