SABA VISION: WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE FOR PARENTS We ALL represent the Stillwater Baseball Area Umpires have been known to make mistakes and will Coaches have been known to make mistakes and will Your son will strike out, make an error, or a base running mistake 24 hour Rule for Coaches The bench is sacred ground Game time is not the time to coach from the stands Enjoy baseball: It is GREAT game to enjoy and to be part of No alcohol at any fields home or away. Represent Stillwater Area Baseball well. This is an MBL rule. Take Fun Seriously!! Kids don t know they are not having fun until their parents tell them!!!
CODE OF CONDUCT
4 IDEAS 1. Kids need novelty. Learning things in new and interesting ways is important to their development. 2. Greg Maddux and John Elway hired personal instructors for their kids. Kids don t listen to Mom or Dad, no matter how much you know or how good you are. Familiarity bias. That's just the way it is. 3. They need to know that you care before they care what you know. 4. It's important that we keep in mind why your player plays. It's for his benefit. Not yours. The best thing, as I've said before, that you can say to your ballplayer is, "I love you and I love watching you play". "How come my kid doesn't want to listen to my feedback but as soon as someone else says the same thing, they're all ears?" "How can I give feedback and constructive criticism without adding too much pressure? Steve Springer- QAB baseball
SABA VISION: WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE IN PROCESS SABA is the only area association using outside evaluators as a cornerstone of its tryout process. Process was the same for both Fall & Winter tryouts How teams are determined Assemble initial roster of teams based on tryout scores (see Board members if you have questions on evaluators scoring) Prior year player evaluations by coaches used to validate scores and team placement in the case of any questions and to provide a check and balance to the process. Identify head coaches Age Group Coordinators (Dan Haws) handle any cuts, complaints or questions on team placement
COACHES 1. How many coaches per team? One Head Coach Two Assistant Coaches Any number of parents are allowed and encouraged to assist during practices Only Coaches are allowed in the dugout, on the field and giving direction during games ( No coaching from the stands!) In addition to coaches, each team is expected to have a Team Manager and a ScoreKeeper. 2. How are coaches chosen? Head Coach chosen by Coaches & Player Development Committee, based on past baseball experience, attitude, teaching skills and parent-communication skills. Head Coach picks Assistant Coaches. 3. What is the process after a coached is identified? Concussion training, back ground checks, tournament and games scheduling. 4. How are coaches supported? Coaches & Player Development Committee Tim Carlson, Chad Felty & Mike Parker Coaches Clinics: 3-4 for 2018
TRAINING Work cooperatively with the Stillwater Area High School baseball program and coaches Develop our youth players from an early age Goal: introduce our players to the fundamentals and teachings of our high school team so the Pony baseball program is part of our player s growth
