1 SLJL Meeting Minutes June 24, 2015 Attending New Business Randy Hoffman, Ralph Dunigan, Deb Gaudreau, Jen Schiller, Ken Elkins, Lance Shipman, Bryan Spaller, Lisa Sciborski, Laura Hoffman, Walt Novak, Dan Young, Duane Lanyon, Mike Hamann, Don Mifsud, Guido McLaren, Irven Meadows, Brian Mackey, Paul Dolan, Dean Whitcomb, Derrick DeGroat, Sean O Neil, Mike Blackie, Eric Steffes, Mike Wessner, Mike Kramer, Rob Quinn Meeting minutes of June 17 were accepted. Seeing fields not dragged after practices by coaches. We must keep our fields in good shape for the whole season. Please make sure all coaches are reminded again. Donation monies from Ralph Dunigan father memorial to be used to purchase and erect flag pole at Atchison Park for national anthems before each set of games. Having coaches issues in both Reese and Kaline divisions. Trustees have addressed. Board would like to have Board Member from now on meet with parents of team with issues and let them know we are working on solutions and that their concerns are being heard. Ken Elkins to get SLJL as member of South Lyon Chamber of Commerce. Rainbow Ice and Stone Depot have offered to sponsor any of our teams in tournaments. Had visit by Mike Kramer who is on the South Lyon City Council. Mike explained to us that there is no intention to touch the baseball fields at McHattie Park in the building of the proposed Community Center at McHattie. Hot Shots delivered pictures to June 24 meeting, Trustees delivered to their coaches. Coaches have one week to get pictures to players on their respective teams. All make-up picture s will be available on July 1 at board meeting.

2 Fall Season Treasurer Playoffs Consider for 2015 Fall Season to move BCP to MWF. Add Play Up check box on Fall Registration Form. Registration for 2014 Fall Season was 471 children. Discussion needed in off season for recruiting umpires for Fall Season. Fields from Schools available for Fall Season are; SLEHS both girls fields, SLHS all girls fields, Centennial, Millenium, 9 Mile, SLHS both boys fields, and Hardy. Contract is for 5:00-9:30 pm Monday thru Friday and all day on Saturdays August 1 October 31, Dick s Sporting Goods wants us to consider a Fall Dick s Night. Proposal from Deb to raise registration fee for Fall from $ to $ per child. Will discuss further at July 1 meeting. Account Balances; Chase Checking $49, N/C First Merit Checking $97, First Merit BT $24, , First Merit GT $14, $ Field Mix-Vol -$ T-Ball Day Face Pt -$ Field Maint -$1, Ump Pay There will be 8 teams in Mays playoffs, 8 teams in Reese, 5 teams in Koufax, 8 teams in Minors, and 4 teams in Majors. If lower Mays teams want a second tier playoff, trustee must let us know in order to schedule fields, prep, and umpires. Will go with 2 umpires in each Championship game.

3 Fields/Equipment Field improvements at School Fields for 2015; 1. Drainage at Salem & Brummer 2. Fix infield/outfield lip at Millennium, Salem, & Hardy 3. Change bleachers, cement in dugouts, and irrigation at McHattie. (Waiting on City). Quote for cement in dugouts rec d 9/27/14 $3, Talked to Parks & Rec Board and may have matching funds for Pavilion Project at Volunteer. 5. Working with High School Softball Boosters to get improvements to Softball Fields. 6. SLEHS Boy s would like to get backstop extended to Dug Out full height to avoid losing foul balls in pond. 7. Possible field locations near fire station at Atchison Park near 11 Mile and Milford Road in Lyon Twp. 8. Roof on 3 rd Base dugout on 9 Mile Field is in need of repair hitting tunnels for Atchison Park, Dean and Ralph to get quotes. Ralph has new landscaper suggested by Sean O Neil to quote rework of Kent Lake and Brummer. Need them to also quote Salem. They suggested to Ralph to do work in summer so as to not create ruts with the equipment. We may need to close individual fields a week at a time to get the work completed. Lightning Landscape quoted $2,400/field. Need to have Salem and Brummer first on that list. Bollinger wants to be in loop of any work we will be doing on fields. This project is on hold until approval from Mr. Bollinger. Bob Martin of South Lyon Maintenance is supportive of sprinkler system and outfield fencing at McHattie. We suggest that outfield should be leveled before system is put in. Need to work with City to repair fencing on both Volunteer fields. Need to get permanent fence around maintenance dirt at Volunteer Fields. Deb received quote for wooden fence around dirt pile at Volunteer of $1, June 17, 2015 Need to purchase 6 additional large field boxes to complete replacement of field boxes. There is one new large box at Dean s company. With purchasing 6 that will give us 7. They are to be placed at the following fields; Brummer, Hardy, Salem, Kent Lake, Volunteer, Centennial, and SLHS Boys Varsity. 2 of the better small boxes to be placed at Bartlett and throw away the old one at Bartlett. Irv has agreed to deliver these 7 boxes and place. He asks only to be allowed to keep one of the small boxes in return. Ordering Large Boxes on April 16.

4 Second Base at SLHS JV Softball field needs to be repaired. Received quote of $17,000 from South Lyon Fence to repair fencing on backstop, dugouts and outfield on SLHS Freshman Softball Field. Board felt quote was high and will request quotes from Wolverine Fence and Detroit Fence. Possible batting cages (2) at SLHS Softball facility $6,000, and improvements to Freshman Field such as fencing, backstop, and dugout roofs. Is on hold until approval from Chris Bollinger. Mike Teagan wants to meet with SLJL Board to discuss suggested field improvements. Brummer needs trash bags and Field Dry, 9 Mile needs a Rake, Deb is out of Ice packs. Scheduling All Star Make sure we account for Salem Flag Day in future years. It is usually the first week in June each year. All schedule changes and rainouts being handled by Ken with no issues at this time. For 2015 All Star weekend; 1. Come up with outline/cheat sheet for announcer before sessions. 2. Discourage BCP coaches from standing on fields during games. 3. Have Kaline players pitch whole game provided there are enough pitchers. 4. Need to contact someone from Shades of Pink to show up for 9:00 pm games on Friday night of All Star Weekend. 5 Total of 212 hats for Boys Participation and 96 Trophies for Girls Participation. Medals for Skills Competition will be, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. For 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd. Competitions are Fastest Runner, Home Run Derby, Fastest Pitch, and Throwing Accuracy. There will be 63 Matt Douglas Plaques and 24 Abby Dolan Plaques. Schedule of games is as follows; Thursday July 16: Skills Competition 6:00-10:00 pm All Fields Friday July 17; 3 BCP All Star Games 6:00 pm All Fields 1 Minors All Star Game 9:00 pm Freshman 1 Reese All Star Game 9:00 pm JV 1 Koufax All Star Game 9:00 pm Varsity Saturday July 18; 2 GCP All Star Games 3:00 pm JV/Varsity 2 Kaline All Star Games 6:00 pm JV/Varsity 1 Majors All Star Game 9:00 pm Varsity 2 Mays All Star Game 9:00 pm JV/Fresh All BCP, GCP, and Kaline All Star Games will go a limit of 7 complete innings. No extra innings. Minors, Majors, Mays, Reese, and Koufax will go 7 full innings and extra innings if tied. Approved $ for decorations at All Star Weekend. Paul to coordinate old and new banners honoring past and new scholarship winners for All Star weekend. Add Stone Depot to list of free adds in All Star Program. Will attempt to get 2 Face Painters to work Friday from 6-10 pm and Saturday from 5-10 pm. Irv has second face painter. Grace Hoffman to contact SLHS Softball Coach Dan to get SLJL PA System out of Softball locked storage closet in 3 rd base dugout. Dick s Sporting Goods is considering sponsoring the Skills Competition night at All Star Weekend, Ralph to contact week of 6/1/15.

6 Website Dick s Night T-Ball Day Pink Out charity will be Shades of Pink Items on website store or KV Sports for purchase are; T-Shirts $10, Hoodies $20, Arm Sleeve $10, Socks $5, and Arm Bands $5. Jamie met with George at KV and developed new Pink Out Logo. As of 6/3 meeting raised over $2,200. Next year consider the following; 1. Take donations at game sites, something like Coins for Cancer 2. Educate players and parents of cancer risks 3. Have expert personnel on site to hand out literature and answer questions. Dean to provide Laura with verbage for advertising All Star Ads for program. Need brag page made for SLARA advertisement by July 1, Suggestions for next year; 1. Start at 4:00 pm for younger family s instead of 6:00 pm 2. Possible move to Novi 3. Make up handout for each division as to what is needed to help parents with their purchases. Still have $500 gift card from Dick s will make purchases for SLJL at later date and will still get 20% discount. Lance Shipman has volunteered to head up picture boards of SLJL events and displaying at events. Stone Depot has agreed to sponsor the bounce houses and pay the fee for rental. Thanks to Stone Depot. Need additional Face Painter next year. Create handout for event to explain how T-Ball Day works. Organize with city to possibly utilize bounce houses for movie night on same day. Donations from Jar at food table of $614.55

7 Umpires Board approved $ scholarship fund for umpire scholarships for both girls and boys. Total of $500 to be split by Duane and Deb as necessary. Duane needs head coaches names to be matched with team names. Payments of $500 will be made on 6/1, 7/1, & 8/1 to umpire scheduler. SLJL will purchase Pink Out T-Shirts for Softball Umpires. Duane discussed method of reimbursement plan for umpires making more than $ Plan would pay the umpires a bonus of 15% of total made for year. Which is the Self Employment tax incurred for making more than $ Will discuss further at July 1 meeting. Clinics For 2016 should consider increasing fee to $ to eliminate some of the SLJL expenses. Also have parents bring registration form on first week to verify which session they are in. Travel Discussion with Dean and Laura to devise way of having Travel players register on Blue Sombrero and pay their $30.00 fee to SLJL on paypal. Fees will be due by March 31. This will allow us to develop a more complete data base of all people involved in SLJL. Will also investigate the possibility to register both Boy s and Girl s umpires. Girl s competed in NSA Tournament and 10 U placed 5 th, 14U placed 8 th, and 12U Red placed 1 st in the State, CONGATULATIONS! Girls 16U were Champions of Fowlerville Firecracker Explosion Tournament. Dean Whitcomb-Boys, and Bryan Spaller-Girls were nominated and voted in for 2016.
