P a g e 1 9:00 am Welcome to Mukilteo Little League Fan Fest 2018 Welcome everyone to the annual Mukilteo Little League Fan Fest. Thank you for attending today. My name is Winston Dutchin and I ll be serving as your master of ceremonies. Fan Fest is a celebration of all players, teams and families and the Little League Experience. It s a time to hang out and have some fun with your friends and an opportunity to make some new friends. It s the one chance we have all season to have all the teams together and celebrate Mukilteo Little League. The Snack Shack is open and we have coffee and breakfast items. Later in the morning we ll have some great tasting Hamburgers and Hot Dogs for you to enjoy. Today we ll host the MLB Pitch Hit & Run competition the winners of which will advance for a chance to go to the national MLB Pitch Hit & Run championships at the MLB All Star Game. We ll also be hosting the MLB Junior Home Run Derby where both Players can show off their skills with a Bat. Winners will advance for a chance at the National Junior Home Run Derby championships also at the MLB All Star Game. Players can register for the Pitch Hit & Run and JR Home Run Derby at the tent by the clubhouse. Board Recognition Before I go any further I would like to extend a huge thank you to the Mukilteo Little League volunteer board of directors. This group of dedicated people are the heroes of our community. They have been working very hard, giving their time and energy since last Fall to make the little league experience available for our kids. The board wants you to know that they will support all the players and coaches and serve the community as best they can. They are committed to making little league a fun and positive learning experience for all players. I would like to recognize the board members who have worked so hard to get us to this point in the season: President Julie Mass
Vice Presidents Mark Califano, David Ortmann, Kevin Wilson, and Tyler Morton Treasurer Scott Greaves Player Agents Rhonda Frans, Chris Malysheff, Matt Dunston, and Ryan Odegaard Registrar Karin Malysheff Umpire in Chief Jason Becker Safety Officer Daryl Gee Training Manager Coni Hickey Volunteer Coordinator Jamie Molisani Uniform Coordinator Annemarie Mills Concessions Manager Cindy Olsen Scheduler Ray Batalona And Equipment Managers Kristen McNulty and Norm Harshaw P a g e 2 Please note the league will be looking to add new board members for next year, so please be thinking about the opportunities to serve on the board of directors in varying capacities. Volunteer Recognition Mukilteo Little League is a 100% volunteer organization. We want to say thank you to all of our other volunteers who are helping to make this a successful year. We know how valuable everyone s time is and we want you to know how much you are appreciated. A word about our dedicated managers, coaches and umpires. Without these folks there would be no Mukilteo Little League. It takes a lot of volunteers to manage over 600 kids and manage over 50 teams. This year the league backgrounded over 150 individuals who are working with our kids. We are truly fortunate to have so many men and women dedicating their time to help our players grow and learn. Our coaches focus on the core values of sportsmanship, teamwork, respect for the game and always giving your best effort. Our umpires officiate the games to keep them fair and fun for everyone. We know this season will leave your child with a lot of positive memories. Parent assistants help out where needed. Thank you managers, coaches, parent assistants, and umpires for everything that you do for Mukilteo Little League.
P a g e 3 Teams Recognition This year we have 52 Mukilteo Little League teams and 616 boys and girls playing ball. We re so excited for the 2018 season! Let s meet some of our teams. The Panthers From the Juniors Baseball Division! The Bandits
P a g e 5 From the Seniors Baseball Division! The Dodgers..Let s give all our teams a round of applause! Sponsors Recognition I would like to now take a moment to thank all the sponsors of Mukilteo Little League. Without the generous financial contributions of our sponsors we would not be able to provide the quality program we have. Sponsors fund our scholarship program so that every child who wants to play ball can participate. For Mukilteo Little League has awarded approximately $8,500 in scholarships enabling over 56 kids to play ball. Sponsors help offset the costs of equipment, uniforms, field rentals, facility improvements and other associated costs for running a successful little league. And Sponsors help us keep our programs affordable for every family. We particularly want to thank our Premium level sponsor for their generous support! Snohomish County Paine Field Airport Pellegrini Orthodontics Walters & Wolf Curtain Wall Softball All Stars Recognition For the last several years the Mukilteo Little League Softball program has been steadily improving in both number of participants and level of play. In 2017 our 10/11 Girls Softball All Star team won BOTH the District One All Star tournament and the Washington State Championship 10/11 Softball tournament! In recognition of their achievement we d like to present the team with a championship banner that we will proudly display on outfield fences for years to come.
P a g e 6 Would the members of that team please come forward when called. Ally Boulger Samantha Bruton Gabrielle Cummings Elisabeth Funston Kaylee Mitchell Samantha Porter Samantha Rohwer Olivia Rorke-Lucero Grace Rudek Samantha Stine Amanda Webb [Presentation of championship banner & photo opportunity].. Congratulations to all of you! Backstop Fence Recognition Katie Wills Manager Bill Rohwer Coach Pete Shearer Coach Jason Cummin Some of you may have noticed all the improvements to the fields over the past two years. The board would like to thank all the volunteers who have managed the large projects here at the ball park. As a result, the fields are in the best shape they have ever been in. Last year, thanks to Brad Estes and many other volunteers, the outfield fences on Field 1 and Field 2 was replaced. We also installed new pitching mounds and bases. Some of last year s projects were funded by grants from the City of Mukilteo and Snohomish County. In October 2017, the board of directors approved $40,000 in funding to replace the backstop and dugout fences on Field 1. Walter and Wolf Curtain Wall joined the project by awarding a $7,500 community support grant to help fund the project, and The Snohomish County Parks & Recreation Department contributed $10,000 worth of Labor and materials to complete the project s cement work. While there were many contributors that made the backstop and dugout fence replacement possible, I d like to recognize the following individuals who made the project a reality. Mark Califano, who served as project manager Tom Black Dave Thompson Matt Dunston
P a g e 7 And just last week, David Ortmann finished building a new softball bull pen. If you get a chance to go down to the softball field and check it out, it s amazing! All of these capital improvement projects require a lot of time, energy and expertise. Without the project management and leadership of the individuals previously mentioned, the Mukilteo Little League complex would not be as it is today. We are endlessly grateful to those volunteers to donate their time and talents to these major undertakings. Snack Shack Recognition The reason we are able to enjoy refreshments, snacks, lunch and even dinner is due to our invaluable snack shack volunteers. Parents, grandparents and community members volunteer their time to serve food and have fun meeting everyone in our little league community. Can the current volunteers please raise their hands? Let s hear a round of applause for the volunteers so far this season!.. Together we can keep the snack shack running. There are still many more opportunities to volunteer for this season and join the snack shack team. Please sign up on signup.com or ask how at the snack shack!
P a g e 8 National Anthem Now please remove your hats for the National Anthem: Our National Anthem will be sung by our own Mukilteo Little League Tee Ball coach Tim Krivanek. [.. singer approaches mound, sings National Anthem] [.. Winston returns to the microphone] Now let s recite the Little League Pledge. Players, please repeat after me. I Trust in God I Love My Country And will respect its laws I will play fair And strive to win But win or lose I will always do my best Now I d like to announce who will throw out the first pitch. I have the names of kids who have expressed an interest in this bucket. We ll draw a name out and have that player come up and throw the first pitch. [Draw ticket, read name, have player come up. Introduce player and what team they re on. Ask them to throw the first pitch.] Thank you!
P a g e 9 With that, we are now in full swing for the 2018 spring season! We hope you all enjoy the next several weeks of baseball and softball games and have a positive Little League experience and. Remember, it s not all about winning or losing it s about learning and developing your skills, building character, and having fun. Our next opportunity to be together as a league is Mukilteo Little League Day at the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, May 27 th when the Mariners take on the Minnesota Twins. Tickets are on sale online through brownpapertickets.com. The link and information on how purchase tickets is on the home page of our website.
