Andres Gimenez did a little bit of everything. The shortstop singled, scored a run, drove in a run and stole a base. RUN SCP: Gimenez has had success at Spirit Communications Park this season. He s hitting.303 at home in 30 games. DON T TEST THEM: Columbia s bullpen hurled 3.2 innings of scoreless ball on Saturday. The bullpen s ERA is a tremendous 1.80 over the last 12 games (8 earned runs, 40.0 innings). THIS DATE IN FIREFLIES HISTORY: A year ago today, Andrew Church tossed the first (and only) nine-inning complete game shutout in franchise history. Church allowed just four baserunners (one hit, one walk, two hit by pitch) and struck out a career-high 10 batters. He used just 99 pitches and at one point retired 13 in a row. That s the only complete game shutout of Church s career. WHERE DOES IT RANK?: Church s outing on July 16, 2016 is arguably the best start in franchise history. The contenders: P.J. Conlon, 10 inning start vs. Hagerstown (6/4/16) - 10 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 5 K, 1 BB (only 97 pitches) Gabriel Llanes, complete game Delmarva (5/10/17) - 9 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 5 K, 1 BB RAIN, RAIN, GO AWAY: Columbia and Kannapolis began their game on Saturday night at 9:10 p.m. because of a rain delay. The start of the game was delayed two hours and 21 minutes because of rain. SOUTHERN DIVISION SECOND HALF STANDINGS Place Team Record GB Last 10 Streak 1. Charleston W4 2. Asheville W1 3.
