The Suns took game one 3-0, scoring all three runs in the bottom of the first inning on two hits and an error. Weston Davis worked the complete game shutout for Hagerstown and James Marvel took the loss for West Virginia. In game two, the Power overcame a 1-0 deficit after one inning, plating two in the second, one in the third and one more in the fifth for a 4-1 win. Matt Anderson struck out seven over five innings for the victory before Jordan Jess pitched the final two innings for his second save. Albert Baur doubled twice, Ryan Nagle had two singles and four different players drove in runs in the win. NUMBER ONE WITH A BULLET: Luis Escobar will start for West Virginia in today s series finale at Hagerstown. The right-hander is tied for the South Atlantic League lead with 118 strikeouts, which places also places him sixth all-time in Power history. Escobar needs five to pass Buddy Borden s 2014 total of 122 and seven to move into fourth ahead of Kyle McPherson s mark of 124 during the 2010 season. West Virginia was swept by Rome in their delayed Opening Day twinbill on April 7. The Power have split the rest of their doubleheaders; April 23 against Lakewood, May 26 against Hagerstown and June 24 against Lexington. West Virginia and Lexington will play two tomorrow to make up for a July 6 rainout. TWO-HIT WONDERS: Matt Anderson and Jordan Jess combined to limited Hagerstown to a pair of hits in game two on Saturday night. Anderson allowed a single to Jake Noll in the first while Jess surrendered a hit to Noll in the seventh. It was the club s first two-hitter since Mitch Keller and Jess Amedee combined to limit Kannapolis to a pair on August 19, AND COUNTING: Former Power third baseman Jordan Luplow was promoted to the Pirates roster on Friday and made his Major League debut against the Padres in San Diego. Luplow hit.264 for West Virginia in 2015 with 51 extra base hits, including 36 doubles. The infielder-turned-outfielder began his 2017 season with Altoona. Luplow is the 65 th former Power player to reach the Majors and the eighth this season. CENTER OF ATTENTION: Power outfielder Garrett Brown was tabbed by the South Atlantic League on Monday as the Player-of-the-Week for July Brown hit.455 during six games last week, going 10 for 22, with three extra base hits and eight runs batted in. He is the first Power player to capture a league award this season. ONE FOR THE ROAD: West Virginia and Hagerstown conclude their second of four series this season. The Suns took three of four at Appalachian Power Park in May. The clubs will play another four game series at Municipal Stadium in August and a three-game set during West Virginia s last homestand of the season. The Suns lead the alltime series since 2005 and hold a advantage in their home park. POWER POINTS: The Power s four-game sweep was their first since April 14-17, 2016, against the Legends. In fact, each of the last three four-game series sweeps by West Virginia have come at home against Lexington dating back to August of Garrett Brown s 10-game hitting streak was snapped on Saturday in game one. Brown hit.421 with nine runs batted in during the streak... AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh lost its fourth straight, falling 4-2 at San Diego. Ivan Nova took the loss after allowing all four runs over five innings... Indianapolis topped Pawtucket 5-3, scoring one run in each of the first five innings... Altoona split a doubleheader with Trenton, losing 8-7 and winning Bradenton was trounced 12-3 by Palm Beach... The Black Bears lost 3-1 at Auburn. Jon Schwind had two hits in the loss.
