Just like Thursday, the BlueClaws scored two runs in the first inning. The Power responded in the bottom of the inning with a solo shot by Dilson Herrera and Jordan Steranka s first pro hit, an RBI single. The Power took a 3-2 lead in the second, but Lakewood took a 5-2 lead in the third. West Virginia tied the game again in the fourth on Barnes first home run of the season. The Power took their final lead thanks to a six-run fifth, capped by a 3-run blast by Barnes. BARNES BREAKOUT: Barrett Barnes went 3-4 in yesterday s win against the BlueClaws with two home runs and six runs batted in. It was Barnes first two home runs of the season, and his six-rbi night was the highest by any Power player this season. The last time a Power player had six RBI in a game was June 17, 2007 when Charlie Fermaint had six against Lake County. Five days before that, John Alonso and Andy Bouchie collected six RBI in a Power victory vs the Hickory Crawdads. WVP Hitting- WVP Pitching- G 2 W-L 1-1 Homestand Statistics AVG..285 AB 70 H 20 R 15 ERA 6.00 IP 18.0 BRING TO A BOIL: The Power and BlueClaws will meet six times over the next ten days. West Virginia holds a lead in the all-time series, having won seven of eight meetings in the first half. The Power are at home in this series and have split 50 games at FirstEnergy Park. These clubs will meet again in Lakewood Township to start a four game series next Thursday. STRONG DEBUTS IN BRADENTON: Former Power slugger Stetson Allie and Joely Rodriguez made their debuts with the Marauders yesterday. Allie struck out against the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner David Price in his first at bat in the Florida State League. In his next plate appearance, Allie doubled to left, scoring former Power shortstop Alen Hanson. Rodriguez pitched five innings and allowed three runs on five hits, receiving a no-decision a Marauder 4-3 win. Bradenton sends former Power lefty Orlando Castro to the mound today for a 6:30 game. NEW FACES IN TOWN: To fill the void left by the loss of the promotions to Bradenton, West Virginia received Jordan Steranka, who picked up his first professional hit with an RBI single in the first inning of last night s game. The Power also received a pair of Latin American pitchers. Clario Perez made his 2013 season debut for the Power and took the loss after allowing two unearned runs in 2.2 IP. Luis Heredia, Pittsburgh s 3rd best prospect according to Baseball America, will make his South Atlantic League debut in the series finale tomorrow afternoon. STREAKY HERRERA: Dilson Herrera hit a solo home run in the first inning of yesterday s win and is currently riding an eight-game hitting streak, dating back to June 11th. The South Atlantic League All-Star is batting.272 during the streak. Previously, Herrera had two seven-game hitting streaks, his first from April 10th to April 17th, and from May 8th to May 17th. PROMO UPDATE- JULY 4- The Power will host the Lexington Legends on July 4 at 6:05 pm. The game will be followed by a fireworks show and a concert by the Davisson Brothers Band. SANCHEZ GETS THE CALL: On Friday, former Power catcher Tony Sanchez was called up to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Along with Sanchez, Duke Welker is currently with the big league club but has not yet made his major league debut. If they play, they will become the 34th and 35th players in Power history to play in the majors. AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Gerrit Cole picked up his third win this season after a Pirates beat the Angels 5-2 in Los Angeles. The rookie pitched 6.1 innings and allowed only two runs on four hits. Indianapolis scored a run in each of their last three innings, but Charlotte defeated the Tribe 7-5. Altoona s winning streak ended at eight games after a 7-5 loss against Bowie. Bradenton split a doubleheader against the Charlotte Stone Crabs, winning game one 4-3 and falling in the second game by a 4-0 final. Jamestown moved to 4-1 this season after an 8-3 win against the Williamsport Crosscutters. Jin-De Jhang hit his third home run in as many days, a three run blast to help the Jammers pick up the victory.
