The Legends struck for one on the first inning before the Power responded with a run in the second on an Erich Weiss sacrifice fly and another in the third with an Edwin Espinal RBI base knock. Lexington tied the game at two in the fourth before a Francisco Diaz RBI triple in the bottom half and another West Virginia run in the sixth. The Legends, however, came storming back with a pair in the seventh and another in the eighth to earn the victory. Henry Hirsch was charged with the loss while Jose Rodriguez earned the win. HERE IT GOES AGAIN: The Power have played Lexington more than any other opponent during their nine previous seasons. The cross-division rivals are only two-and-a-half hours apart along I-64 and have played 183 times since the start of the 2005 season. West Virginia leads the all-time series with a 3-6 mark against Lexington in The Legends hold the upper hand in Charleston, having a mark. The Power have 10 games left with the Legends, including tonight s affair. Meanwhile, West Virginia will see Asheville eight more times before the season concludes. 10 of the 18 will have the Power on the road. GOOD AND BAD NEWS: Before Friday s game, the Pittsburgh Pirates placed Jeff Roy on the Power Disabled List after a knee injury sustained on July 29 in Rome. The outfielder was hitting.216 with a home run and 10 RBIs in his time with West Virginia. Meanwhile, the Pirates activated infielder Chris Diaz from the Disabled List. Diaz was placed on the Disabled List on 7/21 and was hitting.216 with 18 runs batted in. LATE BLOOMERS: The West Virginia Power won 20 games in the first half of the 2014 season. With 30 games remaining in the second half, the Power are one win away from tying that mark. IT S BEEN A WHILE: With a win over the Rome Braves on Tuesday night, the West Virginia Power captured their seventh series win of the 2014 season. It was the first series win in the month of July for the Power and the first since a series victory over Delmarva. West Virginia took the series 3-1 back on June 26 in Salisbury. BULLPEN BURNT: In 38 second half games, West Virginia s starting pitchers have a record and a 3.57 earned run average over innings pitched. The Power bullpen is 9-11, but has a 5.09 ERA over 166 innings. During the first half of the season, the bullpen s earned run average was a half a run lower than the starters (4.20 compared to 4.73). DESIGNATED TO HIT: At the mid-point of the 2014 season, West Virginia s designated hitters had a collective.189 average over 68 games (43 hits over 227 at bats). Over 40 games since break, Power designated hitters are batting a collective.333 (47 hits over 141 at bats). POWER PROMO UPDATE- AUGUST 2: The Power battle the Lexington Legends on Saturday, August 2 at Appalachian Power Park on Football Night in Charleston.
