Lexington took game one 9-4, paced by home runs from Maybris Viloria and Gabriel Cancel. West Virginia s offense came on homers by Hunter Owen and Adrian Valerio. Ofriedy Gomez warned the win and Lexington pinned the loss on Blake Cederlind. West Virginia took the nightcap by a 4-1 final. Down 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Adrian Valerio hit his fourth home run of the series; a three-run shot to put the Power up for good. James Marvel pitched six innings for the win and Jordan Jess worked the seventh for his first save of the season. Travis Eckert took a complete game loss for Lexington. SURGING: Adrian Valerio has homered in three straight games, including two in game one of this series, and now has five this season. JaCoby Jones was the last player to homer in three straight, going yard at Greensboro in back-to-back-to-back games in July of No West Virginia player has homered in four straight since Eric Avila in 2012 during a series at Kannapolis. Valerio entered this season with four career home runs. Hartlieb lead West Virginia with six saves in six chances and had a 0.83 ERA over 20 appearances. PLUS TWO: After the promotions of Cam Vieaux and Geoff Hartlieb, the Pirates have added pitcher Andrew Potter and outfielder Ryan Nagle to West Virginia s roster. Potter was signed as a Minor League free agent in December. Nagle was the Power s every day right fielder last season, batting.247 over 111 games. Both were on the West Virginia Black Bears roster at the start of the New York-Penn League season. GOING FOR EIGHT: West Virginia is 7-4 against Lexington this season. The clubs meet a total of 25 times, including a series starting in Lexington on July 4. The Power hold the all-time edge with 136 wins over 244 games. FOR THE WIN: Heading in to play on Sunday, the Power are seeking their second home series win of the season. West Virginia is at home this season, having played 10 complete series at Appalachian Power Park. The Power took two out of three against Hickory in early May for their only series win at home this season. The club is in their 10 home sets. TOP OF THE DAY: Adrian Valerio s leadoff home run in the bottom of the first Thursday was the first by a Power player since Casey Hughston s shot to start game one of a doubleheader at Lexington on August 18, In addition, Valerio s multi-home run game two nights back was the first of his career. Thursday s win included West Virginia s first back-to-back home runs of the season... Hunter Owen homered in back-to-back games between Thursday and Saturday s first contest... James Marvel s six inning outing in game two was his second quality start of the season... AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh defeated St. Louis 7-3. Josh Harrison doubled and homered... Indianapolis split a double header with Louisville; a 4-2 win and an 8-4 loss... Altoona took down Hartford 5-2. Edwin Espinal hit a three-run home run in the first inning... Bradenton was cut short against Lakeland.
