Austin Coley was sharp in his sixth start of the year, hurling six innings of one-run ball to earn his SAL-best fifth win. Offensively, the Power scored first for the first time during this homestand thanks to an Elvis Escobar solo shot in the second. In the third, the Power scored in three different bases loaded scenarios. Taylor Gushue hit an RBI single, Michael Suchy then reached on catcher s interference, and Pablo Reyes drew a walk. Jeff Roy scored in the sixth on an error to cap the scoring for the Power. CUP O JOE: Power first baseman Connor Joe made his professional debut in last night s victory. Taken with the 39th overall selection of the 2014 MLB Draft, Joe went 1-for-4 with a single, walk, and run scored. Defensively, Joe made a diving stop at first base to prevent the RiverDogs from scoring a run in the fifth inning. Joe being drafted by the Pirates came from Pittsburgh sending Bryan Morris to the Miami Marlins in exchange for the No. 39 selection. The RiverDogs lead the all-time series and have a edge at Appalachian Power Park after sweeping a three-game series from April 8-10, Following this series, the Power and Dogs will meet for a three-game set in South Carolina from June SAITHE: Austin Coley s win on Monday was his fifth of the season, tied with Hickory s Ariel Jurado for the lead in the South Atlantic League. Coley also dropped his ERA to 2.25 with his six innings of one-run ball, good for 11th in the league. Coley also struck out six batters in his outing on Monday to give him a team-best 33 this year. MARATHON MAN: Chase Simpson is the only West Virginia player to appear in all 30 games this season. The infielder leads the team with a.272 average and 14 runs batted in. Simpson is also tied for the team lead with four home runs and his.398 on base percentage is fifth-best in the South Atlantic League. The most amount of games played by a Power player in one season was in 2008 when Caleb Gindl and Zealous Wheeler each appeared in 137 of 139 games played. During the Pirates-Power affiliation, the most amount of games played was Dan Grovatt and Mel Rojas, Jr., who each played 131 of 138 games in FLIPPED SCRIPT: West Virginia got off to a hot start in 2015 with a 13-7 record during the first month of the season, the second best in franchise history. However, May has the Power with a 4-6 record. During the first month of the season, the Power had a team batting average of.267 and a staff ERA of While the staff ERA has improved during May (3.31 ERA), the offense is currently hitting.228 during this month.
