1 THE INSIDE PITCH WEEK 1 VETERANS OCT. 29 th Veterans Division Playoff Pairings released at Nervous Nellies tonight The Friday pairings for the Veterans Division AAA, AA and A playoffs will be announced Thursday night at the Pairings Party, which will be held at Nervous Nellies, located near downtown at 1131 First St. on Fort Myers Beach. It is essentially under the San Carlos Bridge to the beach area. All players are invited to attend. The party will start at 7 p.m., with Nellies supplying finger foods and a cash bar. Roy Hobbs will be putting on a raffle with numerous prizes and giveaways along with announcing the playoff pairings for Friday. The pairings will be announced about 8 p.m. then posted by 9 p.m. at the World Series Headquarters, the Player Development Complex, on royhobbs.com and on the message line ( )... Batgripz A s the top seed in the AAAA Pairings The undefeated AAAA Division Batgripz A s are the top seed in the 8-team doubleelimination Veterans Division AAAA playoffs. Playoff games begin at 10 a.m. New Jersey Twins center fielder Tom Juskus makes a great catch of a New Jersey Mets sinking fly ball. The AAAA Managers met Wednesday afternoon to set the 8-team field. It was decided to drop the 0-4 Nova Scotia Alpines to the general pool even though they won AAA in Roy Hobbs made this decision as Roy Hobbs maintains discretion in team placement at all times. In the team matchups, the managers discussed adjusting first-round matchups since #8 Stars of Herrera played the #1 A s on Monday and the #6 NJ Twins had played the #4 NJ Mets on Tuesday. The Stars and the Twins keep their seeds but they swap bracket positions to avoid rematches in the first round of the playoffs. After the first round this morning, winners bracket and losers bracket games will be played in the afternoon. AAA-AA-A playoff pairings to be set for Friday The non-aaaa teams play their fifth pool game Thursday. Today s matchups were dictated by several photo by Greg Wagner factors: 1) team records as RH tries to match teams with similar records; 2) no rematches of games played this week to date; 3) looking for geographical diversity; and 4) integrating the 4 teams dropping down from AAAA to the general pool. There is a potential for teams to receive byes in the first round of the playoffs, but those byes will go to teams who win their Thursday games. The notable exception is when teams play. The losing team is 4-1 and still receives consideration for a bye but in competition with all 4-1 teams, ranked by fewest runs allowed in their best 4 games. With an odd number of teams in the General Pool 37 either one team plays a double-header Thursday or one team gets a bye. The Minnesota Bandits volunteered to play the DH, so their games against the Akron Cardinals and Detroit Dodgers will be 7-inning games. 7 7 RH Hall of Fame inducts 10 on Nov. 15 The Roy Hobbs Hall of Fame Trustees cordially invite you to join them and the Roy Hobbs Baseball staff for the induction of the 10 members of the Roy Hobbs Hall of Fame Class of 2015 on Sunday, November 15. The RHHoF Dinner and Induction Ceremonies will be held at Pincher s Marina at Edison Ford Restaurant, located at 2360 West First Street in downtown Fort Myers. Social time starts at 6:15 p.m., with a buffet dinner served at 7 p.m., to be followed by the induction ceremonies. The event should be completed by 9 p.m. Admission is by ticket only. Tickets may be purchased in advance at player registration or at the World Series Headquarters or by request to km@royhobbs.com. A limited number of tickets will be available at the ceremonies. Prices for tickets are $40 for guests over age 21, and $25 for guests ages 10-20, and include dinner, soft drinks and 2 tickets for beer or wine. Children under the age of 10 are free. The exact breakdown will be guided by Thursday s results, and rationale for the setup will be explained at the 7 p.m. Pairings Party Thursday evening at Nervous Nellies on Fort Myers Beach all players are invited. The A Division will be established by draw at the Pairings Party. A Division teams must be represented by a manager or player in order to be eligible for any potential byes. Unlimited Division begins play tonight The 4-team Unlimited Division begins play Thursday night with games at Lee County Stadium and City of Palms Stadium. The division will continue with double-header pool games on Friday and double-elimination playoffs starting on Saturday and finishing with a championship game Sunday afternoon. Championship rings All teams and/or players may order RHWS championship rings. The award structure for each of the Division in the Roy Hobbs World Series are outlined in the RHWS program. You will be contacted by December 15 with information on your team award and how and when it will be delivered. Cincinnati Colts batter lays down a bunt vs. the Naples A s. 50/50 raffle 50/50 raffle tickets, to benefit the Roy Hobbs Foundation, are available each day at the Player Development Complex. Tickets are $1 apiece or 6 for $5. The drawing will be held in the patio area at the Player Development Complex at 5 PM Friday. The Roy Hobbs Foundation was established to raise monies for research on finding a cure for Leukemia and to assist our Challenged Athlete friends. Glove repair David McLaughlin is the Roy Hobbs World Series glove-repair specialist. He will be stationed at the Player Development Complex during daylight hours this week. Otherwise, you can reach Dave at he will make arrangements for you to drop your glove off at the World Series Headquarters and he will set up pickup and delivery service. Sports Massage Therapy Are you getting a little stiff or sore? There are Sports Massage Therapists at Terry Park when we are using that complex. Player ID cards Just a reminder that all players must have their player I.D. cards with them at games. No card, no play, and Roy Hobbs reserves the right to do card checks at games. Players without their ID cards will not be allowed to continue to play and will be required to bring his ID card to the Tournament Director or Site Manager before being allowed to return to the playing field. Replacement cards are available at the Roy Hobbs Headquarters. Bring a photo ID to verify identity, and the fee is $5. So, please don t lose the card and please keep it with you. Ice for the injured Just a reminder that Roy Hobbs will furnish ice for injuries. However, we advise managers from the start that they need to provide ice for pitchers arms, if needed. That s something to plan for injuries are another story. For injuries, please contact Hobbs personnel at the field site for assistance. photo by Greg Wagner Please help with dugouts Roy Hobbs Baseball and the grounds crews need your help in the dugouts. When your games are over and you are leaving the dugout, please police it for trash and cups, etc. Your assistance in cleaning up the dugouts each day will be greatly appreciated. Picking up T-shirts The tournament T-shirt is available through Friday only for all registered players outside the Roy Hobbs Store in the screened in patio at the Player Development Complex. No Shirts will be given out on Saturdays. Hours to pick up the Tournament T-shirt are from Noon to 6 p.m. With the shirt, each player will get a tournament patch. Players will need their RHWS ID card to get their shirts, no exceptions No drivers licenses needed.
