Jok's took an early 1st inning 1-0 lead with the 1st four of the top of the order getting hits. Jok's added another two in the 3rd on Ron Lewis' triple being the big hit of the inning. In the 5th, Jok's scored another three more runs to take a 6-0 lead. before Dr Dionne's finally scored two in the top of the 6th and went down in order in the 7th. Butch Dunham was perfect for the day (3 for 3) for Dr Dionne. Meanwhile, Jok's had another balanced attack with five players getting two hits each and all players except one getting a hit. Rich Rosen Steve Stitt

3 08/20/2018 Leathernecks - 5 M&N - 9 M&N late rally topples the 'Necks Harry Doutt lead all M&N hitters going 3 for 3. In the 4th, John Walter and Thom Riley had key hits to make the score 4-0. After being dormant for the first 5 innings, the Leathernecks woke up and scored 5 runs in the 6th. Ageless Don Fusco (3 for 3) lead off with an innocent single. After the Leathernecks loaded the bases Gerry Moore, Rick Latham and Joe Richards all had big hits. When the dust settled, Leathernecks led 5-4. In the bottom of the 6th, M&N rallied for 5 of their own. After loading the bases, Kip Ferguson's single knocked in a run. Greg Gougian's bases-loaded double drove in 2, when Thom Riley singled, 2 more runs touched home. In the top of the 7th, M&N turned a double play to end the game with an exclamation point. Thom Riley Ted Theos 08/20/2018 Arts - 7 Global - 8 Global tops Arts in 8 In the 1st inning scored 5 runs when Rusty Schwarzenburg walloped a 2 run HR, and with 2 runners on Bo Buczinski's double plated the 5th run. Trailing 7-3 in the 7th, Arts tied the score at 7-7, when the bottom of their lineup rallied. Ken Rousseau, Bob Napolitano, Rob RIch and John Consigli all got singles. Then ping, George Mosnicka singled in a run, then ping Jerry Ferullo drove in a run and with 2 outs, ping Frank Willey got a big single to knot the score. In the bottom of the 8th, John Remillard had a bases loaded single to end the game. Rusty Schwarzenburg Frank Willey Frank Willey 08/24/2018 Joks - 14 Leathernecks - 4 Joks puts on hitting show While Deerfield pitcher Ted Theos held Jok's scoreless in both the 1st and 7th innings, Joks' put up crooked numbers for each inning 2 thru 6, banging out 27 hits. Gerry Vye was 4 for 4 with a triple and a double. Jok's scored 2 in the 2nd inning, 2 more in the 3rd, 3 in the 4th, 3 again in the 5th, and finally 4 in the 6th to put the game away. Meanwhile, the suddenly anemic Leathernecks could only muster four runs scoring twice in both the 4th and 5th innings after Jok's built a 7-0 and 10-2 leads. Jok's pitcher Ron Lewis limited the Leathernecks to only 11 hits for the game and issued no walks. Jok's had a balanced offensive attack as every batter had at least one hit with Gerry Vye going 4 for 4 and Peter Olson, Ron Lewis, and sub Joe Lamy each going 3 for 4 and six other players getting two hits each. Joks did most of their damage after 2 outs. Steve Brzozoski and Tom Anderson had big days with big singles to drive in runs in the clutch. Three Deerfield batters were 2 for 3 for the game (Jeff Porter, Bob Beaver, and pitcher Ted Theos). Ron Lewis Ted Theos

4 08/24/2018 M&N - 16 Arts - 4 M&N puts on hitting clinic M&N scored 3 in the 1st keyed by Thom Riley's triple. In the 2nd M&N scored 4 more, Rich Stratton got a key hit and John Remillaird doubled. In the 3rd, Gary (4 for 4) Schoolcraft had a seeing eye single, and with 2 outs, Rick Stratton had a single to centerfield for 3 more runs and the rout was on. In the 4th, Super-Sub Rusty Schwarzenburg lifted a long fly to right that no one could catch, and he and Mike Albano touched home with a second of each other. In the 5th, Rusty tripled in 2 more runners. A frustrating game for Art's Manager Jerry Ferullo because Art's had 19 hits and left 16 runners on base. Gary "the wandering thesaurus" Schoolcraft made a diving catch in leftfield to end the game. Rusty Schwarzenburg Thom Riley Joe Martinoli 08/24/2018 Hansons - 9 IMEC - 2 Malloy handcuffs IMEC Steve Malloy, backed by a strong Hanson defense, held the potent IMEC lineup to just 10 hits. The only damage came in the 1st inning because of a George Abood triple, followed by 3 singles. Otherwise, Hanson just chipped away, 1 run at a time until they put the game out of reach with 5 runs in the 6th. Hansons displayed and evenly balanced attack with doubles by Gary Boyle (2/4) and Sub Nick Fowler (1/3). Ben Tosi was 2/3. Abood was 3/3 for IMEC. Steve Molloy Bill Kotopoulis 08/24/2018 Global - 12 Calvary - 14 Calvary upends shorthanded Global Game featured an impressive 49 hits. Calvary had 2 5ers, In the 3rd, Calvary score 5 runs on 8 hits! Leo Melanson, Carl Harmon and Wayne Hanson all had key 2 out hits. In the 5th, Calvary scored 5 more as Leo Melanson, Carl Harmon and Wayne Hanson all got base hits and scored. Leading 14-5 in the 7th, Global put a scare into Calvary by scoring 7 runs in the 7th inning, and left the bases loaded. Joe Lamy had a big bases loaded double to right field with the bases loaded to score 2. Fred Toppi had a big single to left. Bert Guimond followed with his 2nd base hit of the inning. With the bases loaded and 2 outs, Calvary coaxed the last batter to fly out to left. Whew! Bob Lavoie Joe Martinoli

5 08/27/2018 IMEC - 8 Global - 7 IMEC nips Global in 8 innings IMEC kept Global from capturing sole possession of 1st Place. This game started out as a slug fest. IMEC lead off with 3 quick runs, but Global responded with 4 of their own, to which IMEC came back with 3 more, and Global scored another. It was 6-5 after just 2 innings, but things settled down to a 7-7 tie rather quickly after that until the 8th inning. With 2 outs, and runners on 1st and 3d, winning Pitcher Billy Kotopoulis hit a clean single to drive in the winning run, and the IMEC defense held in the bottom half to preserve the victory. Mitch Milewski was 4/4 for the victors who hit 4 extra-base hits including a triple by Johnny Peterman (2/4). Bill Kotopoulis Charlie Howe Out by 2 steps. 08/27/2018 IMEC - 8 Global - 7 IMEC nips Global in 8 innings IMEC kept Global from capturing sole possession of 1st Place. 6 08/27/2018 Leathernecks - 6 Dr Dionne - 8 Dionne s rally and win The Leathernecks scored 6 runs in the first 3 innings. In the 2nd, Steve Brzozowski tripled in 2 runs and scored on Dan Walsh's single. In the 3rd, Jeff Fuller doubled and scored on Wally Hedlund's single. Wally scored on a Joe Richards double. In the 5th, Dr. D's rallied for 3 runs when Steve Stitt and Ed Jaracz singled then Frank Sommer and Butch Dunham singled to tie the score at 6-6. In the 6th, Rick Tessier lofted a long fly over everyone's head to score Don Kasper. Les Johnson followed with a run scoring single for an 8-6 lead. The top of the Leatherneck's lineup was due up in the top of the 7th, but they couldn t muster any magic. Steve Stitt Ted Theos 08/27/2018 Hanson s - 15 M&N - 19 M&N wins barnburner The game featured several lead changes. It was Hanson s 2-0, M&N 8-2, Hanson s 15-14, and finally M&N M&N had 30 hits and Hanson s had 25 hits. Jimmy Edwards had 5 hits. Mike Albano, Jeff Fuller, Gary Boyle and Gar Schoolcraft all had 4 hits. Edwards and Boyle scored 4 runs. In what will sound redundant, M&N's Jim Edwards, Mike Albano and Jeff Fuller each singled and scored in the first 3 innings. Hanson valiantly battled back with a pair of 5 run innings. In their 3rd, the bottom of the line-up, Mike Doolan, Steve Molloy, Ed Peterson and Ben Tosi all had consecutive singles. In the 4th, Gary Boyle belted a 3 run HR to tighten the score to In the 6th, Gary times 3, Johnson, Boyle and Schoolcraft all had RBI singles and when Nappy Napolitano and Mike Doolan singled, Hanson s led 15-14! Thom Riley led off the bottom of the 6th with a triple to deep centerfield. Gerry Moore, Joe Kowalik and Armand Robert all singled, and oh-oh not these 3 again, Jim Edwards, Mike Albano and Jeff Fuller all singled and M&N retook the lead In the top of the 7th, Steve Molloy led off with a single, but the next 3 batters went quietly. Gary Boyle Thom Riley Bob Napolitano 08/27/2018 Joks - 4 Calvary - 7 Rusty lifts Calvary past Joks. Rusty Schwarzenburg was 3 for 3, had a HR and 2 doubles, scored 3 runs and played an outstanding SS. In the first, Rusty had a solo HR. In Calvary's 2nd inning, the bottom of the line-up rallied when Carl Harmon, Wayne Hanson, Larry Hersh and Bob Lavoie all singled to build up a 5-1 lead. In the 3rd and 5th innings, Rusty led off with a double and scored. A frustrating game for Joks as they had runners on but didn t cash in and left 11 runners on bases. Rusty Schwarzenburg Bob Lavoie Ron Lewis Sure, I eat what I advertise. Sure, I eat Wheaties for breakfast. A good bowl of Wheaties with bourbon can t be beat. Dizzy Dean

Batter hits what should be a tailor-made double play bouncer. The runner on 2 nd base deliberately stops and allows the ball to hit him. What s the call Ump? The call is a double-play. If in the umpire s view, the play would have resulted in a double play, he should call a dead ball and declare the runner and succeeding runner out. Therefore, the batter is safe but the runners on 2 nd and 3 rd are declared out. Gary s big word of the week mellifluous 1. sweetly or smoothly flowing; sweet-sounding: a mellifluous voice; mellifluous tones. 2. flowing with honey; sweetened with or as if with honey. When Rob hit the ball just right, it made a mellifluous sound sailing over the centerfielder s head. What 2 batters have over 4000 lifetime hits?
