We grow old because we stop playing For the first half of your life, people tell you what you should do; for the second half, they tell you what you should have done. - Richard J. Needham Team Won Loss PCT GB Runs RA Leathernecks IMEC Global M&N Hansons Pine Street Joks Dr Dionne Arts Calvary
06/06/2018 Global - 12 Calvary - 8 Chase powers Global over Calvary 12-8 The score stood at 3-1 with Global leading going into the 5th. Global scored 5 runs with 2 outs in their top-half of the 5th. Charlie Howe (3 for 4) scored on John Chase's double. Chase scored on John Remilliard's double. Paul Valdanbrini knocked a long fly over the Centerfielder's head for a double to score Remillard. Will Mounsey then tripled to knock in Paul. In the bottom of the 5th, Calvary's Jeff Fuller's double drove in 2 runs, and when the leftfielder slipped and fell Andy Cohen's looper that drove in 2 runs. Cam Boyd's single drove in Andy to complete the scoring and the score stood at 8-6 Global after five and 8-7 after six innings. In the top of the 7th, Global's John Chase's triple to drive in 3 was the killer. Calvary's first 2 batters reached in the bottom of the 7th, but crafty Charlie Howe induced 3 harmless fly outs to preserve the win Charlie Howe Steve Molloy 06/06/2018 Hansons - 10 IMEC - 14 Berard s triple powers IMEC over Hansons IMEC scored all their runs in the first 4 innings and held on to win In the 3rd, IMEC strung together 6 consecutive hits to score 5 runs. The key blows were Bob Beaver's (2 for 2) double and Johnny Peterman's (3 for 3) single. In the 4th, it was the same set of characters getting 5 hits in a row with the key blow being a Paul Berard (3 for 3) triple. Hanson's struck for 5 runs of their own in the 5th when Gary Boyle (3 for 3), Jeff Porter (3 for 3) and Mark Lara all got big hits. In the 7th, Hanson's loaded the bases, but the rally fizzled. Bill Kotopoulis Ron Lewis 06/06/2018 M&N - 9 Arts - 6 M&N comes back to beat Arts 9-6 M&N jumped out to a 3-0. But in the 4th, Art's pasted a big 5 on the scoreboard when the top of the lineup rallied. The key hits were Dan Birck's (3 for 3) double, and consecutive singles but Ralph Murphy (2 for 3), John Consigli (3 for 3), George Mosnicka (2 for 3) and Nappy Napolitano. Now down 5-3, M&N rallied for 5 runs of their own in the top of the 5th with 7 consecutive hits. The key hits were by Kip Ferguson (3 for 3) and John Remillard (3 for 3). In the 7th, Arts had a rally going as John Consigli's double put runners on 2nd and third with 1 out, but Thom Riley got the last 2 batters to ground out. Thom Riley Frank Willey
06/06/2018 Joks - 3 Leathernecks - 4 Porter's hit lets the Leathernecks squeak by Joks 4-3 Joks had 17 hits and threatened to bust the game open several times, but the Leatherneck's defense allowed them to dodge an arrow. In the 1st, Wally Hedlund's (2 for 3) single and Rich Latham's Sac Fly made the score 2-0. In the 3rd with the score now 3-1, Jeff Porter (3 for 3) doubled, and scored on Wally Hedlund's single. Ron Lewis was able to shut out the hard-hitting Leathernecks the rest of the way. Joks Paul Archer robbed Gerry Moore of an extra base blast with a terrific running catch in the 6th inning. Joks loaded the bases in the top of the 6th and when John Poulos (3 for 3) singled, it looked like Joks would tie the game, but their rally died, and they left the bases loaded. In the 7th, Joks had 2 runners on with 2 outs, but couldn t get that key hit. Ted Theos Ron Lewis 06/08/2018 Dr Dionne - 10 M&N - 12 Albano leads M&N to victory In the bottom of the 2nd, M&N erupted for 5 runs. Rod Robuccio and Jeff Fuller had doubles, and Johnny Peterman's single capped the scoring. After a quiet 3rd and 4th inning, M&N struck again in the bottom of 5th with four additional runs to lead 12-4 after 5 innings. Mike Albano (3 for 3) started the rally with a single and after M&N loaded the bases, Rod Robuccio hit a SF, and Joe Kowalik (3 for 3) laced a triple to drive in 2. Dionne s rallied in the top of the 6th scoring 5 runs to narrow the M&N lead to 12-9 when Butch Dunham doubled and Al Czernicki (3 for 3) singled. Dionne held M&N scoreless in the bottom of the 6 th. In top of the 7th Dionne had a small rally producing only one run ending the game on the losing end Pitcher Steve Stitt went 3 for 3. Thom Riley Steve Stitt
06/08/2018 Global - 11 Arts - 10 Chase powers Global over Arts Both teams scored 5 in the first inning. Global did it the hard way, hitting 8 consecutive singles. Arts scored their 5 runs keyed by a double from Capt. Jerry Ferullo (3 for 4) and triple by Wally Hedlund. (3 for 3) After 5 innings the score was tied 9-9. In the 6th inning, Charlie Howe (3 for 4) homered, must be that blazing speed, and John Chase (4 for 4) followed with another home run. In the bottom of the 7th, now trailing 11-9, Gerry Vye (2 for 4) and Dan Birck (3 for 4) both led off the inning with singles and when Roger Nield singled in Gerry, the score was with no outs. But Charlie Howe got the next batters to pop out to center and then got groundball double play to end the game. Charlie Howe; John Chase Charlie Howe Gerry Vye 06/08/2018 Joks - 16 Pine Street - 6 Joks Lamontagne, Patton and Fowler pound Pine Street This was a close game until the 7th inning when Jok s pulled away with 10 consecutive hits and 8 runs, putting it out of reach. Jok s outhit Pine Street 25 to 17 but was far better at turning those hits into runs. Bob Lamontgne (4 for 5), Del Patton (4 for 4) and Nick Fowler (4 for 4) each had a big day for the Automen, while 6 others reached twice. Joe Lamy (3 for 4) led the Chefs with 3 hits, with 6 others reaching twice. Gerry Vye homered for Jok s. Joe Lamy homered for Pine St. Gerry Vye; Joe Lamy Ron Lewis Joe Martinoli 06/08/2018 Leathernecks - 16 IMEC - 0 Leathernecks put on hitting clinic Spot starter Bob Napolitano scattered 9 hits and shutout the hard-hitting 2nd place IMEC squad. Jeff Fuller's (3 for 4) double in the 1st drove in 2 runs and Rick Latham's single drove in Jeff. Wally Hedlund's (2 for 4) triple keyed a 2 run 3rd. In the 7th, the Leathernecks batted around sending 12 men to the plate and scoring 6 runs. In the 7th, Cam Boyd and Jeff Fuller each hit 2 run home runs. A game that Captain Geoff probably wants to forget despite getting 2 singles. Jeff Fuller; Cam Boyd Bob Napolitano Bill Kotopoulis
06/11/2018 Leathernecks - 11 Calvary - 4 Hedlund powers the 'necks past the 'aints Wally Hedlund went 3 for 4 and had 2 triples. In the 1st, Wally tripled home Jeff Fuller and scored on Rich Latham's flare single. Dick Moushegian's 16-hopper found its way into the outfield to score Nappy. In the 4th, Fuller's single and Hedlund's triple drove in 3 more runs to make the score Calvary scored 4 in their half of the 4th when Steve Molloy and Leo Melanson got bases loaded singles. Both teams were surprisingly quiet in the 5th through 7th. Greg Gougian made a nice catch on the leftfield line robbing Cam Boyd of extra bases. The loss was Calvary's 10th in a row Bob Napolitano Steve Molloy 06/11/2018 Joks - 7 Global - 13 Remillard powers Global past Joks The tone of the game was set in the 1st when Joks loaded the bases but didn t score. In Globals half of the 1st John Remillard (3 for 4) and Paul Valdanbrini (2 for 3) singled to plate 3 runners. Bob Lamontagne's liner to center got past both centerfielders, and by the time the ball was retrieved, Bob was already halfway between 3rd and home. That HR tied the game at 3-3. Global s Bill Kotopoulis bloop hit scored Paul Nickerson, and then Al Jarry's single drove in a run to make the score 5-3. John Remillard's triple in the 4th drove in 2 and Paul Valdanbrini SF scored John. In the bottom of the 6th, Global scored 5 runs as John Chase (2 for 3), Remillard and Valdanbrini all got consecutive hits to blow the game wide open. Bob Lamontagne Bill Kotopoulis Ron Lewis 06/11/2018 Pine Street - 21 Hansons - 9 Pine Street spanks Hanson s 21-9 Someone finally flipped the power switch on Pine Street, and the Chefs responded with 21 runs on 34 hits, including homers by Larry Kittle (again), Gary Royal and Rob Rich. Pine Street scored at least 2 runs in every inning but the 5th and pushed across 5 in both the 2nd and the 4th. Hanson s struggled at the plate early, but finally erupted for 6 runs in the 6th. Ten of Hanson s 17 hits, including sub Jeff Fuller s homer, happened in the last two innings. Jim Edwards, Royal and Rich led the Pine Street with 4 hits each, and 6 other Chefs had 3 hits. Gary Boyle, sub Jeff Fuller and Mark Lara led the Mechanics with 3 hits each. Hanson s executed a nifty double play in the 1st inning, and Pine Street matched it with a DP in the second. 7 What s the call Ump? No one out, and the pitcher cannot throw a strike and walks 3 batters in a row. The 3 rd baseman replaces the pitcher and the pitcher goes over to play 3 rd base. The relief pitcher cannot throw a strike either and after he walks 3 batters, he wants the 1 st baseman to pitch and he wants to return to 3 rd base and put the original pitcher on 1 st base. Is that allowed? The original pitcher can come back to pitch again, but he cannot change to a different position on the field for the duration of that inning. Who holds the major league record for grounding into 36 double-plays in a season? I wonder how many times Remy the runner at was first Running a ball club is like raising kids who fall out of trees. Tom Trebelhorn Gary s big word for the week: bumfuzzle - to confuse or fluster. Please remember 1. We are old men 2. We are playing a kid s game 3. The coaches are volunteers 4. The umpires are doing the best they can 5. Throwing your glove and cursing doesn t help your team field any better. 6. The only thing that complaining will change is how others feel about you. 7. You aren t getting a call to play in the major leagues
