The Beast of The East is sponsored by Elite Sports of Virginia Inc., Haynes Jeep and the Richmond Sports Backers. The tournament is sanctioned by SoftballNation and will be a SoftballNation Slow Pitch Nationals Direct Qualifier. The tournament is a six game format event that takes place throughout the Petersburg/Richmond area on Memorial Day Weekend. Tournament Schedule of Events: May 8th: Entry Deadline: Entry Fee: $350 SAVE MONEY: (Entry Fee BEFORE May 8 th : $300) May 22nd: Friday Evening: Hooters Home Run Derby: Petersburg Sports Complex: A great way to get a start on the weekend. Test your home run hitting skills against the best hitters in the tournament. See if you can match monster shots with some of the best hitters around. We ll crown a Home Run King in the Upper and Lower Divisions. A Cash Prize and Hooters Prizes go to the Winners. May 23rd - May 25th: Saturday Morning: The Beast of The East Tournament Begins The softball action begins Saturday morning with bracket play in all divisions. Playoffs will be completed on Monday afternoon with the championship games scheduled for the Petersburg Sports Complex. Some upper level divisions may be completed on Sunday evening. The Men s Gold division playoffs will separate into a Platinum/Gold or Hi/Lo Format. 2 The Beast of The East SoftballNation NIT Championship May Petersburg/Richmond, Virginia 6 Game Format: Men s Gold, Silver, Bronze (804) You Are Invited: The 2009 SoftballNation Beast of The East continues the tradition of being the best and most competitive Men s Slow Pitch Softball Tournament on the East Coast. There is no tournament with bigger numbers and there is no tournament that draws better competition on Memorial Day Weekend. If you want to be the best, you ll have to beat the best in this event. Just like last year, this year s tournament champions will be awarded direct berths to the SoftballNation Slow Pitch Nationals in Virginia Beach, Virginia along with a travel fund of $1,000 in each division. We had 100 teams participate last year. As always, our goal is to provide you with a well organized and competitive tournament with great officials. We work hard to make this a tremendous event that you won t want to miss. We also believe that if we recruit the best teams we can find, more teams will want to play. It s been proven over the last 5 years that the best teams come out looking for the best competition. We encourage you to come prepared to play hard because this is a Championship Tournament for Championship Teams. Travel Fund: Winners in Each division will be awarded a Travel Fund of $1,000 towards their participation in the SoftballNation Slow Pitch Nationals. Teams must advance to and participate in the SoftballNation Slow Pitch Nationals to receive the travel fund. Travel Funds do not pass down. Awards: 1st Place: Team and Individual Awards, plus special prizes sponsored by Elite Sports of Virginia Inc. 2nd Place: Team and Individual Awards 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th place: Team Award MVP Award and All Tournament Team Awards will also be presented Tournament Rules: The tournament will follow the SoftballNation Rule Book. Home Run Rules: Men s Gold (A,B,C): 5 & 1up (Playoffs will feed into Platinum (8 HR) and Gold Divisions (5 & 1up)) Men s Silver (D): 3 Home Runs Men s Bronze (E): 1 Home Run Balls: Teams will hit their own ball throughout the tournament. All Classes:.44 COR with a.525 Maximum Compression Divisions of Play: Men s Gold, Silver, Bronze If you are coming from outside the state of Virginia, we must be able to confirm that your team is the caliber of the division you are requesting. All teams must be sanctioned by SoftballNation and you may register your team online at If you do not register online, please include your 2008 team sanction fee with your entry fee. 3 The Beast of The East: Entry Form Memorial Day Weekend: Petersburg/Richmond, Virginia. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE SENT IN ADVANCE. NO EXCEPTIONS. Entry Fee: $350 Enter Before May 8 th : $300 Entry Deadline: May 8th Teams entering after May 8th : $350 Teams will be taken after the deadline on a space available basis. Entry after the deadline is not guaranteed. We urge you to enter early to assure your team a spot in this tournament. Teams will be taken on a first come first serve basis. We urge all teams to enter early because we are limited on field space and we want to accommodate all teams. Deadline: May 8th: Teams will only be taken after the deadline on an as needed basis to fill in space. Entries are not guaranteed after the deadline. Entry Fees received before May 8 th : $300: Entry Fees received after May 8th: $350. Refund and Withdrawal Policy: No team will be considered entered into the tournament until their entry fee is received. Any team that withdraws from the tournament after the May 10th deadline is obligated for the entry fee. Failure to pay an entry fee upon withdrawing after the deadline will result in the team s immediate suspension from play with SoftballNation. RAIN POLICY: If inclement weather causes cancellation of the entire tournament before it starts, teams will receive a full refund minus a $10 administration fee. If inclement weather causes cancellation while the tournament is in progress, teams will receive a refund based on the number of games they were able to complete. Returned or canceled checks will be assessed a $50 penalty and the team will be considered suspended until payment is made. Illegal withdrawal, tournament no shows, and canceled checks will result in forfeiture of all berths awarded. This tournament is sanctioned by SoftballNation and will serve as a Slow Pitch Nationals Direct Qualifier for all divisions. Home Run Derby: Friday Night (Petersburg Sports Complex) NO team will be taken without advance payment. This event is too large and important to take a chance on No Shows. The Official Entry Deadline is Wednesday before the tournament at 6:00 pm unless otherwise noted. Any request for entry after the deadline is not guaranteed and will only be accepted on a space-available basis. To enter by using a credit card: Call Withdrawal Policy: Any team that withdraws from a tournament after the entry deadline remains obligated for the entry fee. Failure to pay an entry fee upon withdrawing after the entry deadline will result in the team s immediate suspension from play with SoftballNation. NO SHOWS who fail to pay the entry fee will be immediately suspended and assessed a $100 fine in addition to the tournament entry fee. Returned or canceled checks will be assessed a $50 penalty and the team will be considered suspended until payment is made. If a team is suspended from play with SoftballNation, notification will be made to all other sanctioning organizations. Qualified Teams will be approved by the National Office. Post Season Qualification Guidelines: To qualify for participation in the SoftballNation National Championship Tournaments in your team s respective division your team must: 1. Be in good standing with SoftballNation and all other National Sanctioning organizations. (SoftballNation reserves the right to accept or reject teams that have been suspended from other national, regional or local sanctioning organizations for any reason.) 2. Participate in two(2) SoftballNation Tournament Qualifying tournaments or win one(1) tournament. Please visit for participation guidelines for your respective division of play. 3. Be sanctioned with SoftballNation for the current season. 4. Have a completed and approved roster online with SoftballNation. 5. Participate in your State Championship Tournament for your respective state and division of play. If there is no State Championship Tournament held in your respective state or division of play, your team may request a waiver to participate from the National Office.
