3 ycling routes hat we have done Green oute improvements efore iver ole mall eath ighway 57.9 million fter o far... we have resurfaced 50km of the city s canal towpaths, upgraded 22km of routes through parks and green spaces, and built 8km of completely new off road routes. e ve also improved access to these routes and renewed lighting at key points on the canal network. For the next phase of on road cycling infrastructure we will be focussing on a high quality cycle routes from elly ak to the city centre, via the 38, and Perry arr to the city centre, via the 34. he route will be largely segregated and intended to allow a comfortable cycling experience on some of the city s major roads. 4 ew oute ity entre to elly ak Proposed new route his route will provide 4km of two-way, fully segregated cycleway along the 38, linking elly ak and the University of irmingham with the city centre. he route will connect with the existing cycle facilities on urst treet (ational ycle etwork route 5), running along ent treet, rentham treet and onto ristol treet. From ristol oad, the route will run alongside the pedestrian footway, before crossing into the wide central reservation where a dedicated track will run to dgbaston Park oad. further section next to the footway then links the route to existing cycle facilities on elly ak ew oad. Improvements to the junctions at elgrave Middleway and Priory oad will benefit pedestrians as well as cyclists. Up to 20 trees may be removed. hese will be replaced in the local area.
