Travel Demand Management Travel Reduction Program Sun Rideshare Tucson On The Move
Travel Demand Management TDM in Tucson has changed over the last two to three years: Outreach and marketing to all residents, wherever they work or don t work Focus on short trips for personal travel, as well as commute trips Greater promotion of active transportation modes, bike, walk, and bus, to include health benefits of alternative transportation
Travel Reduction Program Annual Employee Survey returned in 2014 Annual Activity Inventory Report survey of employer travel reduction activities Transportation Coordinator Training 2 to 3 sessions per year, plus one-on-one training sessions 2012/2013 TRP Incentive Program Grant or incentive items provided to employers to implement a work site promotion 2014 TRP Recognition Program Employer recognition for achieving defined goals
Travel Reduction Program Number of employers down from 291 (August 2013) to 231, -20.6% due to Adherence to Travel Reduction Ordinance definition of major employer in 2013 Economy and downsizing across the region Alternative mode usage down from 21.0% to 18.4%, all from carpooling (2013 vs. 2007) Employers offered fewer incentive, subsidy, and recognition programs but that may be changing
Sun Rideshare is the regional transportation assistance program that helps Pima County residents find affordable, reliable and convenient transportation options for their daily commutes and personal travel trips. Sun Rideshare facilitates carpooling and vanpooling, promotes transit, biking, walking and telecommuting, and provides incentives to increase the use of alternative transportation for everyone.
Sun Rideshare Services Leased vans for commuting to/from work. 32 operational vanpools 11.4% increase in number of participants vs. year ago (June) PAG subsidies reduce monthly costs First Tohono O odham vanpool started October Eight vanpools now in operation. NTD submitted annually. About $250,000 comes back to the region.
Sun Rideshare Services Free taxi service provided for alternative mode users in case of an emergency. Low cost program that removes a major obstacle to alternative mode usage. Easy access to vouchers when needed 1,264 registrants: 43% of travel database registrants, 39.4% increase vs. year ago.
Sun Rideshare Services One stop shopping for transportation Free online interactive matching system for carpool matching, transit trip planning, vanpool availability, and park and ride lot search Register for Guaranteed Ride Home Sign-up for match alerts and reminders Log your alternative mode trips on the Travel Calendar Switch to a smart phone screen view
Sun Rideshare Marketing New look, new tag line, new message
Sun Rideshare Marketing Advertising campaign includes billboards, bus interior and exterior, and movie theater ads
Sun Rideshare Marketing New infomercial Do Zombies Carpool? 1,305 views on You Tube
Sun Rideshare Marketing New print materials: commuter brochure, program insert cards, fliers, and quarterly newsletter
Sun Rideshare Marketing Car Free Day(s) Bike Fest and Bike to Work Earth Day Rewards Program
Sun Rideshare Marketing Rewards Program Earn points for each alternative mode trip Anyone can play (over 17) who lives or works in Pima County Log all trips in the Sun Rideshare Travel Calendar Monthly prize drawings.

Tucson On The Move promotes an active lifestyle and provides many opportunities for participants to learn about their transportation options. Residents are invited to join neighborhood activities and events, such as walks, bike rides, bike safety classes and bike repair sessions. Tucson On The Move grew out of a pilot program, Keeling On The Move. The program moved to the Palo Verde neighborhood in September A third neighborhood will be added in winter/fall 2014.
WHY Tucson On The Move? Another way to educate residents and increase awareness Promote new and existing infrastructure Low cost program with potential for behavior changes A way to engage people where they live, not where they work Promote alternative transportation for all trips, not just commute trips
Tucson On The Move Program Elements Notify all residents of the program and invite them to register Gather contact information for all registrants Offer free events, activities, and educational opportunities for registrants Communicate with registrants throughout the study: mailings, , website, newsletters Surveyed registrants at the end of the Keeling pilot study Annual bike count for neighborhood intersections

Events and activities for residents Goodie bags included relevant maps, schedules, booklets, brochures, etc. Developed neighborhood walking maps Bike Rodeo and air quality presentations at Keeling Elem. School Kick off event Walking Audit with Living Streets Alliance Guided bike rides and walks Neighborhood Treasure Hunt Bike safety classes and bike repair sessions

Keeling On The Move Pilot Study Findings Attitudes toward active modes improved more likely to consider biking, walking, and riding the bus for transportation Use of active transportation modes decreased most likely due to the summertime survey Traffic study results of the bike boulevard very positive more bike use and slower vehicle speeds Benefits of the program go beyond transportation energizes neighborhood and sense of community among residents
