Lack of any footpath in this location discourages walking & cycling. Project will encourage walking & cycling to GP surgery & town centre 0 (cost in cycle scheme C4c) Introduce footpath on northern side of Estover Rd 30,000 Complete missing link in footpath on north side of Norwood Rd bridge (consider speed reduction and safety measures as part of the scheme) OR Introduce traffic signals to restrict traffic movements over bridge to 1-way at a time, reallocating road-space to pedestrian & cycle use (consider speed reduction and safety measures as part of the scheme) Footpath connecting Nightall Drive to Marwick Rd. Project will enable wheelchair users to access Marwick Centre without having to go on a main road Introduce formal pedestrian crossing of Station Rd The ratio of pedestrians to vehicles does not yet meet the criteria to warrant a pelican crossing, but at such a time as it does this project could be delivered Introduce footpath across well-trodden triangular piece of grass in near police station Resurface with planings so route can be used all year round Drainage and vegetation control work Dedicate route as bridleway Engineering work to improve paths under railway bridge and past the works Legal work to resolve anomalies Improve existing deteriorating bridge to allow for future potential pedestrian / cycle links Project to work with landowners to try to connect the dead end section of footpath 15 on the south side of the river where horses were originally boated across the river to a circuit with options to Gaul Road and / or Burrowmoor Road Project to work with landowners to try to connect the dead end section of footpath 15 on the north side of the river where horses were originally boated across the river to the path that continues west along the river Surface improvements to add to the value of this byway for off-road recreation Introduce solar-powered stud lights on A141 bridge. This scheme could be delivered as a stand-alone project or as part of cycle project C5b. Cycle project C2 Route improvements between Neale-ade Community College and imblington will also deliver benefits for pedestrians and runners through widening the footway, creating a safer crossing of the A141 and introducing solar-powered stud lights on the shared use path Definitive Map project to research the status of unrecorded routes (such as cut-through alleyways) and make Orders to record those that should be so, in order to reduce number of disputes Introduce footway on approach to Creek Road level crossing on either side of the level crossing 0 (cost in cycle scheme C5d) 100,000 60,000 3,000 75,000 25,000 35,000 25,000 25,000 40,000 2,000 0 (cost in Scheme C2bcd) 20,000 Strategy-wide Promote walking routes around March on FDC/partner websites TBC TBC March Market Town Transport Strategy

4 Cycling The following cycling projects will improve the attractiveness of cycling both within March itself and out into the countryside. By creating a comprehensive network of quality cycle routes it is hoped that a significant increase in the numbers of people cycling can be achieved. The strategy will aim to ensure cycle improvements are in full compliance with LTN 2/08 standards. These schemes will help to address the following strategy objectives: IMPROVE PEOPLE S ABILITY TO GET ABOUT AND LIVE INDEPENDENT & HEALTHY LIVES IMPROVE ACCESS TO KEY SERVICES AND DESTINATIONS ITHIN MARCH BY A VARIETY OF METHODS OF TRAVEL IMPROVE THE SAFETY OF THE TRANSPORT NETORK, PARTICULARLY FOR THE MOST VULNERABLE USERS IMPROVE HO THE FUTURE GROTH AND SHAPE OF MARCH IS MANAGED IMPROVE THE ENVIRONMENT & PUBLIC REALM ITHIN MARCH AND HELP TO ADDRESS THE CHALLENGES OF CLIMATE CHANGE March Market Town Transport Strategy

Gaul Rd development is required to deliver a scheme that brings safety benefits at this junction as a condition of planning consent. Reduction in speed limit from 50mph to 40mph. NB this scheme is due to be delivered in March 2013 and has been partfunded by Cambridgeshire County Council & March Town Council. If local concern regarding the safety of these junctions remains after Project S4 is implemented: Carry out feasibility study looking at the most appropriate mitigation measures for the area. Any suggested scheme(s) arising from this study such as; reducing the height of the Peas Hill roundabout to improve visibility and improve safety, would then form part of this strategy. [This project would need to be mindful of Project TC5 which is concerned with identifying options for mitigating impact of future traffic including in this area.] Cost 50,000 15,000 To be provided by developer(s) 5,000 Up to 15,000 for feasibility study to identify preferred options S6 E. side of A141 Bridge Project 13 to introduce solar-powered stud lights on A141 bridge will provide safety benefits to pedestrians travelling across the bridge. Twenty Foot Road junction with A141 isbech Road between the Peas Hill Roundabout roundabout and Norwood Rd. Cycle project C2 Route improvements between Neale-ade Community College and imblington will also deliver safety benefits through provision of a widened off-road cycleway, creating a safer crossing of the A141 and introducing solar-powered stud lights on the shared use path Produce and implement a car park management strategy for the station and areas surrounding the railway station. This scheme (PT4) would address existing safety issues relating to vehicles blocking back onto the Elm Rd level crossing. Project TC1 Town Centre improvements would seek to address identified safety issues. Speed restrictions on Twenty Foot Road junction with A141. Scheme could include moving parapet to improve visibility and safety for pedestrians. Reduce the speed limit on this road from 40mph to 30mph. This scheme also forms part of C5a but could be delivered as a separate standalone scheme. See C2 See PT4 See TC1 Est. 800k TBC March Market Town Transport Strategy
