Introduction ROYAL MARINES REHABILITATION TRIATHLON 2016 General The Royal Marines Rehabilitation Triathlon (RMRT) 2016 will be held at CTCRM on Wed 15 Jun 16. Building on the success of the event held at CTCRM in 2015 the RMRT 2016 will be open to all injured and attached ranks serving in RM Units within the Recovery Pathway. Additionally, the Corps will welcome wounded injured and ill competitors from the United States Marine Corp (USMC), Royal Netherlands Marine Corp (RNLMC) and the French Marines (FM),medically discharged Royal Marine veterans and serving injured Royal Navy ranks within the recovery pathway. This event is an impact free competition, which will provide the opportunity for injured athletes to compete in a physically and mentally demanding challenge, within their limitations. On completion of the competition an evening reception including the race day presentation will be held for all competitors and supporting staff. The RMRT 2016 is supported by the The Royal Marines Charity, Help for Heroes, Castle Triathlon Series and Sodexo. Aim To provide a platform for competition to those Royal Marines and attached ranks who are undertaking rehabilitation within the RM, wounded injured and ill USMC, RNLMC and FM ranks, medically discharged Royal Marine veterans and serving injured RN ranks. The event will also facilitate an opportunity for all within and supporting the Recovery Pathway to meet, compete and socialise. 3

ANNEX A: Event Rules RULES FOR ROYAL MARINES REHABILITATION TRIATHLON 2016 The Royal Marine Rehabilitation Triathlon Rules highlight the general rules of each race. Please read and understand the general rules before competing to ensure a fantastic race for you and everyone else. Any non-sportsman-like conduct constitutes grounds for immediate disqualification of you or your team. Competitors must strictly obey all directions and instructions by Marshal s, the Highway Authority and Police. Medical staff have the authority to remove a competitor from the race if judged to be physically incapable of continuing without risk of serious injury. If you withdraw from the race, please notify the timing team at the finish line. It is the responsibility of each competitor to understand the directions and to be familiar with the swim, cycle and row course. A top must be worn during the cycle and row legs of the event. Your given Race number should be visible at all times; If you are wearing a race belt; number at the back on the bike, number on the front on the row. It is the responsibility of relay teams to transfer their timing chip device and race number in transition. The Race Director has the right to stop a competitor from completing the race if it is deemed that the overall time is likely to fall outside the published cut-off time. Swim No fins, paddles, snorkels or floatation devices are to be used. No wets suits are to be worn. Those competitors who wish to bind their legs together may do so. Regular swimming goggles are permitted. No individual paddlers or escorts are permitted. The course will be adequately supervised by qualified lifeguards. Competitors who warm up must be behind the starting line at least three minutes before the race start.
If you get into difficulty in the swim you may call for assistance, qualified lifeguard s will be at the poolside to assist. If you are retrieved from the swim by a lifeguard you will be listed as disqualified. However, times can still be recorded if, at the discretion of the Event Medical Staff, you are permitted (and willing) to complete the rest of the event. Cycle The roads use on all the cycle routes of all the races will NOT be subject to any official closures although both the Police and Highway Authorities have been involved in the planning process for each race. All competitors will be required to wear United Kingdom/French STANDARD APPROVED HELMET or US/Dutch/FM equivalent throughout the bike course. Helmet straps must be fastened at all times the bicycle is in motion i.e. being ridden or walked. In the event of a breakdown on the cycle course, the helmet must remain on and securely fastened. Penalties. Penalty box infractions: Unfastened helmet = 1 min Absolutely no drafting another bicycle or any other vehicle is allowed. A space of four bike lengths must be left between all riders at all times (unless of course you are about to leave them trailing in your wake). Competitors are individually responsible for following traffic laws as dictated by the Road Traffic Act and are solely responsible for the consequences of any infringements The competitors must follow the Highway Code at all times whilst on the cycle course. Competitors must obey the instructions of course marshal s highway authority and road rules at all times. No MP3 Players, ipod's, walkmans etc are permitted whilst competing. Row Competitors must complete the row entirely before they can unstrap and proceed to the finish line. No MP3 Players, ipod's, walkmans etc are permitted whilst competing. 13
Transition Area Once the race starts, only competitors and approved personal assisters who are racing can enter the compound during transition. Remember to get all your swim gear out of the bike compound before the race commences, as you will be unable to return to the compound until your cycle leg. Make a mental note of your placement in the compound so you can easily find your correct position, e.g. Bike rack row number. No flags, signs or tape can be used to identify a competitor s bike rack as it provides an unfair advantage over other competitors. Bikes must be placed in the correct bike rack after the bike sector of the race. Failure to do so will result in disqualification. Each competitor is ultimately responsible for his or her own gear. Helmets must be fastened prior to unracking your bike and must remain fastened until the bike has been racked following the cycle leg. Any breach of this rule may incur a time penalty. Penalties Penalty box infractions = 1 min each: Drafting Blocking Illegal passing Unfastened helmet Pulling back in the swim Early start on the swim Stop / start penalty Cycle Course: Report to the Penalty Box and advise the official/marshal that you are serving a stop/start penalty. Row Course/Transition: Issued on the spot. Disqualifications If you are shown a RED CARD or fail to attend the Penalty Box a VIOLATION REPORT will be filled out and submitted to the RACE MARSHAL. The RACE marshal and RACE Director will assess your disqualification and rule accordingly. Safety Recommendations Drink plenty of fluid before and during the event. 14
Use caution at the start of the swim if you are not an experienced swimmer. Bicycles must be in safe mechanical condition for the race and should be checked by a bike shop mechanic prior to the race. ANNEX B: Race Day Information Parking. If this is not possible, it is acceptable for one team member to register and receive the pack for the whole team. However, the other team members will still need to attend registration and be officially numbered by one of the registration team. Chip Timing (Teams). We will take the timing chip off you at the end of the race at the finish line. Race number. Within your race pack, you will be given two separate numbers 1 for the cyclist and 1 for the rower. Please pin this on to the clothing you will wear for this part of the race. Race Information Transition. 16 the number of competitors, this can be done by waves or by time of arrival). Please ensure that your numbered labels (in your race pack) are put on before you enter the transition area. The transition marshalls will check your bike helmet, and your bike brakes before you will be allowed to rack up. N.B You will not be able to leave transition with your equipment at any point unless the numbers on yourself and your bike match. Chip Timing (Individuals). You will receive a chip-timing device, which will be the same as your race number for the duration of the race. N.B it is your responsibility to wear your timing device and we cannot be held responsible for any losses. If for any reason it is lost, or comes off your person during your race please let the timing company know. In this case, we cannot ensure that your times can be accessed but we will endeavor to try. Race Day Registration is at 0930 hrs. You will be given a number that will be body-marked on you with a marker pen and then given a race pack (please see above for contents of the race pack). In transition your helmet and bike brakes will be checked and you will then be shown to your designated transition spot. Please ensure that you keep all your belongings together and marked some bikes and equipment may look the same. It s very easy to pick up the wrong kit!
