4 Transportation & Bicycle Plan Value Statement GGLO recognizes that transportation plays an important role in the daily lives of our employees, clients and community. Our employees value a reliable way to get to the office or offsite meetings. Our clients value a convenient way to access our office. Our community values safe and quiet streets that are not negatively impacted by traffic. GGLO is committed to a comprehensive transportation strategy that meets the core needs of our employees, clients and community. This value statement is in line with GGLO s core values as put forth in the Strategic Plan and Environmental Policy: Our business has economic, social, and environmental impact. Recognizing this, we believe in the pursuit of sustainable practices across the spectrum of our work-related activities, including the operations of our workplace. - GGLO Employee Manual Current Conditions Since the adoption of GGLO s Environmental Action Plan in 2007, GGLO has supported carbonfriendly modes of transportation for staff commuting, business travel, and daily office travel. This section describes the current status of transportation for employees, clients and visitors, and identifies the impacts and challenges of the current approach. Lay of the Land: GGLO s office is centrally located downtown approximately 0.5 miles from the freeway, ferry terminal, and Elliott Bay Trail (a recreational bike trail). The office is directly served by 6 local transit routes, and the nearest express commuter bus services are easily accessible in the University Station bus tunnel is 2 blocks away. Peak hour bus service is 1 bus every 15 minutes. Off-peak bus service is one bus every 30 minutes. GGLO is located 1 block (¼ mile) from a designated bike lane, and 0.5 miles from a recreational bike trail. Employees: Employees have access to paid onsite car parking; free bicycle parking, and subsidized monthly transit passes. Commute distances range from 1 mile to 25 miles, and average 9 miles. Our current mode split, as measured for 2012, is: 25.3% Drive Alone 64.9% Bus 13.3% Bicycle/Walk 9.7% Train 10.5% Ferry Clients & Visitors: Based on observation, we believe the majority of customers and visitors access GGLO by foot. Some visitors arrive by bicycle, especially in the summer months. A very small number of customers and visitors arrive by bus. Vehicle parking is available in the paid garage or on the street. 2 GGLO Transportation & Bicycle Plan

5 Transportation & Bicycle Plan Goals In addition to the goals of our Environmental Policy and Environmental Action Plan, the overarching goal of this transportation plan is to reduce driving to GGLO. Within three years, we hope to achieve the following goal mode splits: 20% Drive Alone 50% Bus 10% Bicycle 10% Train/Ferry 10% Walk Strategies In order to achieve these transportation goals, we will adopt three key strategies. Balance incentive and disincentives Provide education and information Engage employees, clients and visitors Tactics Provide transit subsidies to prospective bicyclists as well as bus riders, to increase multi-modal trips. Provide free bicycles for check out and use during the work day (GGLO Bike Fleet) Include transportation orientation for new hires (transit routes, bike buddy, etc) Provide access to company car and car-share program for work day business travel requiring a car, to limit need for personal car Improve Employee bike parking facilities and provide bike maintenance resources Continue to host bike-related classes and events, like Bike To Work Month competitions and events, and design competitions Improve online transportation information for customers and visitors o Link to Google maps for bicycle directions o Link to Google transit planner o Identify bicycle parking options and locations for visitors on website Locate high-quality visitor bike parking at the front entrance Pursue BizCycle certification Measurement GGLO will continue to measure transportation annually to track the effectiveness of this program (and as part of its Environmental Action Plan). These results will be shared throughout the organization, from staff teams to senior management annually. Performance data will be used to consider changes or enhancements to the tactics, and proposed as part of the annual budget process. GGLO Transportation & Bicycle Plan 3

8 GGLO Bike Fleet Guidelines (copy) The GGLO Fleet In the spring of 2013, GGLO purchased four Bianchi Milano bicycles from the newly relocated Velo bike shop at Via6. These bikes are available for all GGLO staff to reserve and take out for rides*. Each bike comes with one helmet, one U-lock, one cable lock and (coming Summer 2013) pannier bag. How to Check Out a Bike You can reserve a GGLO bike through Outlook in the same manner as you would reserve a laptop or a conference room. Each bike is a different size, ranging from Bike 1 (smallest, step-through frame) to Bike 4 (largest frame). Accessories for each bike are the same. Helmets are also adjustable. 6 GGLO Transportation & Bicycle Plan

9 GGLO Bike Fleet Guidelines (copy) All bikes and their corresponding accessories are numbered from one to four. They are located at the Space at the Steps and each bike s helmet and locks should be kept together when returned. The U-Lock has a numeric key that you turn to unlock. The code is 1986 (our founding year, if you were not aware). Using the GGLO Bikes Once you have the bike reserved, it is now your responsibility for the duration of the time you have it out. Please be careful and courteous when riding the GGLO bikes around town. As the bikes are recognized as part of the GGLO brand, please be aware that you are representing GGLO when riding them. Wearing a helmet while riding is mandatory, as is locking the bikes when they are not in use. Please take both the bike seat and the pannier with you when not with the bike as well, as both can be detached from the bike easily. Each bike seat is easily adjustable with the quick release located at the base of the seat post. See the diagram below for the optimal way to lock your bike when using the U-lock / cable locks together. Once you are done with your ride, please return the bike and accessories to the Space at the Steps.
