So here I sit in our little casa (which we lovingly call La Casa de Patos, or The House of Ducks. Today was a great day, beautiful weather and Beck and I had a really really good Italian lunch with Al and Mary after having toured one of their new acquisitions. February 2009 One of my beautiful granddaughter Sophia s favorite words is GINORMOUS. The reason I mention that is it s really the only word I can use to describe Al and Mary s motorhome. Including a 28 foot long cargo ( 59 Vette) carrier, this sucker is 71 FEET LONG!!!!!! AL told us the biggest problem they ve had on their journey so far is finding a place that can take a rig that long. Also got to visit with Debbie (Queenie) Rothrock for a while a few days ago. She s doing well and asked us to say hi to all of their friends in CCC. HI! One of the really fun things about being down here is that we get a chance to do things with our club members who travel in the winter. Fortunately for us most of them are in our neck of the woods at least part of the time. Some of the aforementioned are going to attend the Barrett-Jackson car auction in Scottsdale the end of January and I m really pretty pumped about it. Several of us have never been, so it should be a really great adventure. And before you ask, NO, we aren t there to buy, but we intend to do a whole lot of window shopping. I didn t know until talking with Al at lunch that there are actually 6 different auctions going the same time as Barrett-Jackson. Another really cool thing about being down here is that there are a ton of car shows going on all the time. Classics, Vettes, whatever. There is a show at a casino near Scottsdale that has a show every Saturday night, 52 weeks a year, rain or shine, that attracts up to 500, yes 500, cars on a given weekend. Since I brought the Stingray down this year, I m planning on going to a bunch of these shows. Now the real reason I brought the Vette is to go cruising with my grandkids, but we ll find some other things to do too! If you haven t figured it out yet, this is a really great place to spend some time while it s busy raining, thundering and lightening at home. Absolutely a ton of things to do and see. I highly recommend it if you want get a little warmth from something besides a heat pump or space heater. So, having left the club in the more than capable hands of Vic and his officers and directors, I m just gonna keep on doing what I m doing, which right now is sitting on the patio sipping a very tasty adult beverage. February 14, 4:00 pm Again this year we will be dining at Original Roadhouse Grill 3018 Gateway Street Springfield, OR Original Roadhouse Grill has reserved a private room for us, with servers dedicated to just our group. Please RSVP before Feb. 9 duckvett@comcast.net or No theme this year, but date night attire suggested. It is suggested that we NOT drive our Corvettes due to the construction and restricted parking.

3 VETTE GAZETTE Misc. Notes FREE FOOD!!! Following the February 12 general meeting we will have a social hour with food provided by the club. Please bring your own (non-alcoholic) drinks. Save the Date Our 2nd annual Casino Tour will be June 18. Much the same as last year, our first stop will be at Spirit Mountain Casino for games, lunch and car show (this year known as Veterans Roll The Dice Car Show). From there cruise into Lincoln City and Chinook Winds Casino. On the next leg of our journey, travel south to Florence and Three Rivers Casino before heading back home. A reminder that we are again planning a Tech Day at Dennis Hough s Streetrod, Hot Rod, Race Car and Corvette Shop for early Spring. We specialize in oil & filter changes, exhaust system installation, beer drinking, brake pad replacement, lying, radiator cleaning and snacks. Date has yet to be determined, but will be after all our snowbirds return and the weather warms. The indoor Valley River Center Corvette Show lives again! It took some serious negotiations, but Gerry Swartz has us scheduled inside VRC on April We move in Thursday night, Apr. 14 after closing. They have room for 20 cars and Gerry has 18 signed up already. If you would like to be included contact Gerry asap! AFRICAN PHOTO SAFARI FOR SALE A $5,000 value that has sold at auction for up to $11,000 now available for a great price of $2,500. The price includes 6 nights and 7 days lodging accommodations for 2 people, all meals and 2 guided game drives per day in Zululand, South Africa. The trip can be taken through July Airfare is not included. The Safari Lodge is situated in a BIG FIVE endangered species reserve which received international recognition for the introduction of 28 Black Rhino in 2005 as an effort to conserve the highly endangered species. The Reserve is approximately 60,000 acres and also hosts among others elephant, leopard, lion, buffalo, cheetah, hyena and plains game animals native to the area. At last count, the Reserve was home to 101 Black and White Rhinos. The facilities include your own en-suite chalet with private bath and shower, swimming pool, dining room, lounge, bar and outdoor fire place. Additional activities, such as an elephant interaction are available at additional cost. A list is available upon request. If desired, additional guests can accompany you: $3,360 per couple or $1,680 per individual.
