1 10 October 2018 Dear Parents and Guardians Welcome to Term 4. It promises to be a very busy and productive term. Please keep an eye on the diary dates on the front of the newsletter to plan ahead. Thank you to Naden and her band of helpers for organising the Footy Chomp and Chew on break up day last term. It was a big success! Also a big thank you to Grant and the staff for the wonderful Footy Day activities for the students. The clinics in the morning followed by the singing of the team songs was loads of fun! Welcome back Robyn Fraser! All the students in 4F are happy to see Robyn back after her knee surgery! Also welcome back Rosita! Rosita looks relaxed and rested after her long service leave. As I am sure you are aware there has been a lot of work happening over the holidays for the building project. The builders are working on the front entrance and although it is still accessible from the ramp this too will become restricted as the works progress. The estimated completion date is the last week of the school year. Everything will be back to normal for the start of On Friday October 12 we will be celebrating World Teachers Day. This is an opportunity for students and parents to acknowledge the wonderful work of the teachers at Donburn! Kind regards Julie

4 POTATO SUCCESS FOR FOUNDATION STUDENTS In Term 2, we planted some seed potatoes in the raised garden beds. After a few weeks, we saw lots of green plants above ground but still wondered what was going on below ground. At the end of last term, we finally got to explore what had been going on below the soil. We pulled out the plants and were very surprised to find some massive potatoes, a lot of medium-sized potatoes and some very little potatoes! We then worked with Kathryn Manago and some other helpers to turn our potatoes into gnocchi. We used the potatoes plus flour and eggs. We all had a turn of rolling the dough into little snakes and then we cut up the snakes into little pieces ready to cook. We ate the gnocchi with some fresh salad leaves, radishes and carrots from the Donburn kitchen garden. We also made a dressing with herbs grown in the garden. The gnocchi was absolutely delicious!! We all want to make it at home now. Thank you so much to Kathryn, Celena, Tiffany and Naden for coming in and cooking with us! Ashleigh, Ashlyn and Mei Ling Foundation Teachers Potatoes donated to those in need We were so lucky to have such a bumper crop of potatoes and we were able to give a large bag to the Salvation Army in Doncaster East for their Food Bank. These were distributed to people in the local community during the school holidays. We loved learning about how potatoes grow from a seed potato to a big plant and then to our plate. We also loved knowing we were able to help those who are not as fortunate as us.

6 BRIDGET AND ALLPLAY DANCE On the holidays I took part in a dance program for kids with cerebral palsy at Deakin University. We got buddies to help us dance and try out new moves. I had three buddies. Their names were Morgan, Catherine and Laura. There were four 45 minute sessions, over the two weeks. Then on Sunday we got to perform our dance in front of our family and friends, people from Deakin Uni and a very special guest Mr Li CunXin, artistic director of the Queensland Ballet and the subject of the film Mao s Last Dancer. He was a really nice man and he took the buddies in a special Masterclass after our performance. I even had my photo taken with him. Check out my performance on Facebook. Just search up AllPlay Dance. From Bridget H 5W PE AND SPORTS NEWS ATHLETICS The Doncaster District Athletics was held late last term with some great performances from all of our students.
