1 2013 has started with a huge amount happening in the sporting arena. The first term is always a busy one for sport at Mosman High School. The term kicked off with a very successful Sports Market Day, organized by the P&C Sport Committee. You can read more about it later in this newsletter. The first sport carnival for the year was held at the Drummoyne swimming pool on 18 th February. This is soon to be followed by the the Athletics Carnival on the 9 th April and Cross Country Carnival on the 8 th May. Parents are most welcome to spectate at all carnivals and can get involved in helping out as parent helpers on the day. A big thankyou to the parents who helped at the Swimming Carnival. If you would like to help at any or both of the upcoming sport carnivals send an to Susan Yates on burgfam9@bigpond.net.au. We publish, in this edition, all the age champions from the Swimming Carnival. Well done to these students and all our participants. The annual Knockout competitions, which the school participates in, are well under way and results for some sports are in from the first rounds. Read on to find out more. Following the launch in term of the Gifted and Talented (GAT) Basketball programme, the school has extended this to Dance. Starting from the 2013 Swimming carnival, all times of wining races will be maintained so that, year on year students can aim to claim and hold the school record for their race. 3 2013 Sports Market Day For the second year, the P&C Sports committee arranged a Sports Market Day that took place during orientation week for the new year 7 students, in the School Hall. Local sporting clubs were invited to attend the school and had the opportunity to tell the year 7 students more about the sport and their particular club. Club reps had information on registering, the format of the local comps as well as how students can go on to play at a representative level. Older students were also encouraged to attend during the lunch break and had an opportunity to talk to all the clubs represented. Rowing was particularly popular with two rowing machines to try out, as was Floorball (like ice hockey on wooden floors), with many students having a go. All the club reps have sent their feedback from the day, which is extremely positive. This will be an annual event with plans to make sure that year 8 can also get to hear specifically from the clubs next year. State Equestrian Competition The 2013 State Equestrian Interschools Competition was held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre over four days from February 28th to March 3rd.

4 State Equestrian Competition The 2013 State Equestrian Interschools Competition was held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre over four days from February 28th to March 3rd. Two students represented Mosman High. Zoe Powell in year 8 and her horse Ergonomic (Jack), who is a thoroughbred ex race horse, competed for their first time at this level. She has had him less than a year and he is her first horse. Zoe has only been riding seriously for 18 months. Zoe came 13th out of a large field in the one day event which includes dressage, cross country and showjumping. This was her best result to date in the dressage phase. Abby Kernaghan also competed and she's been riding since she was 7 and, agists her horse Ricky in Terrey Hills. He's an Irish Thoroughbred. She came 4th in the Preliminary eventing at the State Interschools competition which qualifies her for the Nationals. Her passion is Eventing with cross country being her favourite. Well Done Girls!
