1 Sports News Term 1 Week Swimming Carnival The 2018 swimming carnival was held Tuesday January 30 at the Coolum Aquatic Centre for students aged 9 to 12 Years (i.e. students born 2006 to 2009). Big thanks to the many families who were able to join us and support our swimmers. Thank you to all our parents who assisted throughout the day as timekeepers for the Age Champion events. More family members attended this year than ever before thank you for your support. Our Sports House Captains weren t they great. They led from the front with cheering and did a super job as leaders. As a staff, we were also really impressed by the rest of our students. Their conduct was superb, war cries were excellent, tent areas were left tidy, they listened carefully, followed instructions and the cheering from poolside was amazing. The manager of the complex sent an congratulating the students on their conduct. The pool was booked each day that week, so he was able to see many students! We were also impressed by the way the students were prepared to have a go at the events and swim their very best for their sports house teams. I know some students were worried about their swims, but they still swam anyway and gained points for their Sports House team. I think many of them actually surprised themselves..well done to everyone. I m hoping that many of our students have been inspired to join a swim squad and get involved in regular swim training and competitions. Many of our age champions have done just that and they are now swimming so well. Many thanks Noosa District Swimming Trials Congratulations and good luck to the following students who have been invited to swim at the 10 to 12 Years Noosa District Trials on Wednesday February 14 at the Noosa Aquatic Centre: Bonnie B, Darcy D, Harry I, Logan J, Abbie L, Rio Y, Adam B, Mia B, Lily C, Mia H, Beau L, Oliver P, Byron A, Lilly B, Cayden C, Alyssa D, Lola G-B, Darcy J, Liam T Swimming Program The swimming program commenced Tuesday February 13, for students in Year 1, 2 and 4. Thank you to the many families who returned notes and finalized payment by the due date. Prep, Year 3 and 5 will be involved in Term 4.

2 Working Bee We will be conducting a working bee over a couple of weekends this term or on a Wednesday/Friday afternoon to prepare the cross country track ready for the Noosa District Primary Schools event. Students and their families from across 14 Noosa District Schools will attend to participate, so it is our chance to celebrate our school and its amazing setting. More details will be advertised once dates are locked in. Your help would be very much appreciated. Noosa District Sports Trials Thank you to the many families who have responded to the Survey Monkey regarding these trials. The survey is now closed, however if you missed it and would still like your child to attend, please me and I will send more information to you. The following trials are locked in for this Term: 1. softball (registration closed) 2. / Basketball 3. AFL 4. U12 Netball 5. U11 Netball 6. U12 Rugby League 7. U11 Rugby League 8. / Football 9. / Touch Football School Team Representative Opportunities This year there will once again be a number of opportunities to represent Noosaville State School at local/regional or statewide competitions/carnivals. An Expression of Interest to join these teams will be sent this week as a survey monkey. Training will be at school and will commence for some teams, this term. The following is a list of the competitions I am keen to see our school involved in (Other opportunities may become available during the year as well): 1. NRL Development Cup 2. Annette Brander Rugby League Cup 3. Tribal Sport AFL QLD Schools Cup 4. King of the Mountain 5. QLD All Schools Oztag Carnival 6. Billy Moore Rugby League Gala Day 7. Brent Moloney AFL Cup 8. Samsung Netball Cup 9. Red Ball Tennis Challenge 10. Orange Ball Tennis Challenge 11. Interschool Surfskills Challenge Sporting Schools The following sports will be delivered by accredited sports coaches/development officers in addition to PE lessons this term: Tennis: Year 1 and 2 Rugby Union: Year 3 and 4 Rugby League: Year 5 and 6 Timetables are being confirmed at the moment and I am hoping some of the programs will begin in week 5. Term 1 Surfing/Mountain Biking/Dance Fit/Running Club Thank you again for your responses to these programs via the Survey Monkey. If you did not receive the Survey Monkey, please contact the office staff and they will assist you. Make sure you also regularly check your junk mail as sometimes survey monkeys end up in it. Surfing began last week and again, apologies to those students who have missed out. Don t despair your names are on my list and you will have priority in Term 2! Dance Fit begins this week on Wednesday. An will be sent with specific details, so keep an eye out for this is if you registered for the program. Running club also kicked off on Thursday with a great roll up despite the terrible weather. Looking forward to seeing more students attend this week. If you have not registered for the program, it is not too late. Drop into the office, send me an or turn up to sign the paperwork next Thursday morning. Running club will be in the hall if the weather is unfavourable. Please note that Mountain Biking will now begin in week 7, Friday March 9. Confirmation details including names of attendees will be ed soon Mountain Biking/Surfing/Zumba Payments All payments for Mountain Biking/Surfing/Zumba will need to be made directly to the coaches at the very first lesson before the session commences. The programs will need to be paid for in full for the lesson block. Any communication regarding payment will need to be directed to the appropriate coach. The AFL Development Officers will be at school this week promoting the program. More details will be available soon. What our Noosaville Students Get Up To. Oztag State Cup Well done to the students who were involved in the QLD Oztag Junior State Cup. They have been involved with club Oztag for a number of seasons now and it is so good to see them rewarded for their commitment to this sport. Big thanks to their parents/carers for the constant encouragement and support enabling their children to participate. Please see the report below from Megan Toohey covering the girl s team: Six of our girls at the recent QLD Oztag Junior State Cup represented Noosaville State School. They were playing for the Noosa Thunder; Stella A, Lilly B, Mia B, Darcy J, Ally M and Elise T. The carnival attracted 157 teams from all over Queensland with 9 teams competing in the girls 12 years division. The girls played 6 round games of Oz Tag over 3 days coming up with 3 wins, 2 losses and a draw which secured them a quarter final playoff. Up against the team we drew with (Maroochydore) the girls weren t able to come up with the win, going down 5-2. I was so proud of how they played over the weekend, with each of them improving out of sight. They also displayed great sportsmanship throughout the weekend. Most of all they had fun! Oztag QLD selected a QLD Country team to play against NSW in June. Elise and Lilly were selected in the team with Darcy and Ally being named as shadows. Look out for Noosaville State School at the All Schools Oztag carnival later this year! And from the boys thank you Jess Palmer for the information below.. The U12s Noosa Thunder Oztag team were very competitive coming up against some very well drilled teams. We had 12 players in total and some had only played together once before. The boys played 6 huge games over the two days finishing in third position on the ladder. Given we were down on subs it was a magnificent effort. They earned themselves a spot in the Qualifying Final on the third day against the very strong Miami Raptors. Our boys went down 8 tries to 2 but the effort from Byron A, Hunter B, Cayden C, Josh P and Dayyan V V couldn t be faulted. The boys all had a fantastic weekend and special congratulations to Josh P who was selected for a spot in the upcoming Tri Series tournament. 5 In December Oliver P, Darcy J and Logan J represented GS Aquatics in the Club Relays at the Queensland Championships at Chandler Aquatic Centre. They all swam really well against stiff competition. Supporters Thank you to our generous sponsors/supporters of our sports program. Oliver s relay team came a creditable 6th in the Medley Relay but stormed the Freestyle Relay, winning Gold in a time of 2:13.40, over 3 and a half seconds ahead of their nearest rivals and making them 9/10 year old 200m Freestyle Champions. Darcy s team finished with a top 10 placing in both the 200m Freestyle relay and the 200m Medley relay event. Logan s team competed against older competitors and finished well up in the results ladder. They were also lucky enough to see many of the Olympian swimmers in action, including the Campbell sisters, Cam McEvoy, Britt Elmslie, Emily Seebohm, Mitch Larkin and Kyle Chalmers.
