3 Hey Gang, save the date for a GER8! Time and a lot of fun... Roger 20th Annual Indian Uprising All Pontiac Weekend Saturday July 31 - Sunday August 1, 2010 Dear Roger & Judy, Show dates have been confirmed. And do we ever have news for you!! Please be aware that the 2010 show dates are one week later than in the previous two years. There's a VERY good reason for this: 1. The Cruisin' Tigers welcome back Dave Palmer and 3-D sound to The Indian Uprising. Dave has been absent from our show for two years because of scheduling conflicts. If all goes well, Dave will be back for future shows. 2. Drag racing at Byron Raceway. At this point (this may change though) with the exception of a small group at the track on this date - The track for the most part will be Pontiacs ONLY!! The show will remain at The Dupage Expo Center for 2010 HELP WANTED! GROWING CAR SHOW NEEDS YOU!! We need your help. Our show is growing. Which means we need more members to step up become members of the show planning committee. One very important area is the drag racing. We are in search of one specific person to over see the quickest growing aspect of our show. The Drag Strip Representative (or Representatives) will work with Byron and insure that all runs smooth. The ideal person would need to have some experiance in drag racing. Please contact our show chairman Rick Last for anything related to the above. More information will be announced as it becomes available. Sincerely, Paul Weinstein Cruisin' Tigers GTO Club Sitting in the Drivers Seat Ralph Marsai, President, Woodward GTO Tigers I apologize for not making the last meeting, but felt it was more important for me to stay away rather than infect anyone with my illness. I want to thank Jackie for filling in for me, on such short notice; I understand that she did an excellent job. I also want to thank all of our members for making the baby shower for Chris and Lena a success. I understand that the soon to be new parents were both surprised and appreciative, of your support. I want to officially welcome our newest club sponsor Diamondback Classic Tires. They produce one of the finest Red Line Radial tires on the market; see my introductory article on Diamondback tires in the next few the pages of this months Redlines. This is the first in a series of articles, about our sponsors; I am planning to write an article on each one every other month. The purpose of these articles is to introduce you to the sponsors that support your club and introduce you to the products and services they provide. I would urge every club member to support those sponsors that support our club. When ordering parts, from our sponsors, you mention that you are a WGT member, that way our sponsors know that we also support them. I want to remind everyone that the Chrysler Employee Motorsport Association has extended an invitation for us to show our cars and attend a musical show at the Meadow Brook Theater on Friday May 14th. Ed needs your commitment by May 4th of this month. This is a great opportunity to meet other gearheads who have the same passion for cars as we do. Hope to see you there. Contact Ed at esova22@aol.com I have changed the date of the Frankenmuth cruise to Sunday May, 16th with an alternate date of Sunday May 23 in case of rain on the 16th. I have not made any arrangements with the people in Frankenmuth but will do so this week. Since it s early in the season parking shouldn t be a problem and restaurant space is not at a premium. I will be posting additional information on our web page as it becomes available. I would like to see more of our members attend this event. The destination is fun and the ride is easy only about an hour and a half away on good two lane blacktop roads. I am considering inviting the wide trackers to this event. I plan on leaving at about 10 am from US-24 and M-15 and should return home by 5 or 6 pm. If you haven't experienced a cruise I would recommend this one. The club will supply each vehicle with a two way portable radio. Hope each and every one of you will consider participating, my address is: marsair@comcast.net. Arrangements for our annual Classic Weekend is well under way. We only have a few more details to arrange and hopefully we have most of them worked out by the end of this week so that we can start printing our flyers. If you haven't made any arrangements to stay at the Marriott you can call them at (248) or arrange on line at: stayatmarriott.com/gtotigers/ Be sure and use the code gtogtoa to receive the $99 room rate. I am wondering if any of our current club members are planning on attending the GTOAA convention this year. If you haven't experienced a national GTO convention you are missing out on a great time. If you plan on going the convention dates are July 1st - July 4th and will be held in Wichita Kansas. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow GTO enthusiasts from around the country and see what other clubs are doing. I want to remind members that you must belong to the GTOAA to participate in this event. I want to congratulate Rick Beecherl on getting his car back from the paint shop from the pictures I have seen its drop-dead gorgeous. Rick is in the process of putting the car back together. By the way Rick I haven't forgot I am still trying to make my way over to your house for a personal look at the finished product. There are several car shows that are coming up that might be of interest to our members. One is the Spring Dust Off on Sunday June 12th presented by the Widetrackers, The Soaring Eagle Casino Cruise'n car show June 4th and 5th. Both of these shows are great and deserve your consideration. I'll close with the following note" cruise today because tomorrow is promised to no one" Ralph Roseville, MI (586) 285-CARS (2277)
4 Vendor of the Month Diamond Back Classic Tires This is the first in a series of articles to introduce our members to the goods and services that our vendors provide us with. I chose Diamond Back Classic Tires for the first article because they are our newest sponsor and I have had theire radial tires on my 65 GTO HT for the past 10 yrs. I can't count the number of times people have come up to me or my wife wanting to know what kind of Redline tires we have and where did we get them. In addition to being one of the best tires on the market they are an excellent handling and ridingtire. As you probably all know Bias ply ties when they get in a groove made by the semi trucks using our highways will track in this groove and are hard to pull out of especially without power steering. This doesn't happen with the Radials I have on our 65. The Diamond Back Classics Company is a fourth generation family business. They have evolved from a tire retread manufacturer to become what is now the premier producer for the classic car hobby using whitewall and redline tires. Their goal now as in the past is to build the best looking, best performing product at a fair price. Why choose Diamond Back? because for years Diamond Back has been the producer of custom wide whitewall, redline, blueline and goldline tires. Utilizing the latest and highest quality manufacturing processes Diamond Back Classics provide you with all of the advantages of modern day safety, handling, and ride quality of radial tire with the look of yesteryear. Whether it is a Michelin, Firestone, Goodyear, Federal or a Cooper tire Diamond Back Classics will vulcanize a custom sidewall to any modern day radial tire in their plant in South Carolina. At Diamond Back Classics they understand that the right car with the wrong tire can be a catastrophe. They feel that your car must not only look good but must perform, ride and handle too. Their quality control department insures that only the highest quality products leave their facility. Problems with balancing, traction, irregular wear patterns, and excessive weight and noise levels are virtually non existent. Available sizes for GTOs: stock replacement 195/75/15 Largest recommended size: 215/70/ stock replacement 205/75/14 Largest recommended size: 225/70/14 I took these sizes from a catalog and before purchasing anything I would recommend that you check with the experts at Diamond Back. Members of the Woodward GTO Tigers, in good standing, have been given a $50 off bonus on a set of four tires. Interested members should contact me before purchasing I am planning on a bulk order to cut down on shipping costs and Mike Hardwick has agreed to receive the orders at his shop. If you are considering buying new tires this cruising season you should seriously consider Diamond Back classics. In my opinion you can't buy a better tire. We also would like to see some more new members. I would like to welcome two new members: Vincent Giangrande of Ortonville 1967 GTO Convertible Phil and Helen Fischer of Plymouth 1969 GTO Hardtop (former members) We look forward to meeting you and hope you will attend the meetings and upcoming events.
