We were impressed by the effort the children all put in to complete their race. A huge thanks to parents who; helped transport the bikes to and from Pohara fixed the odd bike breakdown supplied extra scooters and bikes for those children who didn t have one helped as marshalls around the track fixed the BBQ cooked the sausages cheered and supported the children Easter Break This is the first time for a few years that Easter is not attached to the school holidays so many may not be aware that Tuesday is also a holiday for schools. 2 Triathlon Writing! On Friday the whole school went to the triathlon. I rode Caitlins bike on the concrete drive. I was excited when I was running. I ran fast and I passed Ashley. I got an iceblock after I finished. Jay Room 3 On Friday the whole school went to the Pohara Beach Camp to do our triathlon. I felt excited at first. I was really fast when I did the run. I came fifth. Joe was just in front. I thought that Joe was doing great. I liked Joes running and I liked my running too. I liked it. It was great. I like triathlons. Kieran P Room 3 On Friday we went to the Pohara beach campground. I went fast when I ran past Iris. Then I was very close to the finish. People were cheering at the end. It was happy. It was fun. Mike Room 3 Triathlon Fun By Rhys N Room 4 We were running as fast as a silver spark of lightning. I came out of the water puffing with relief. I panted all the way to my bike. Motupipi Triathlon By Tane Room 4 We were off racing. There were butterflies in my tummy. I nearly fell off the bike. It was a long way. It was at the Motor Camp in Pohara. It was hard to run through the water and was tiring. The biking was the easiest and the running was the hardest. I didn t have butterflies all the way. My shoes were killing me, full of salt water and sand. Sand got stuck to my back and in my hair. I don t know where I came in the race. I was puffing to death. But. I still want to do it again! The Amazing Triathlon By Mikey Gee Motupipi Triathlon By Kate Room 4 We were off! Racing down the hot sand. All the children ran into the water and then I passed Daisy and Caitlin. It was so much fun. When it was time to hop on my bike my gears were stuck. My Mum came to help. Finally I got going. I was in last place. I rode my bike as fast as a plane. Then I got off my biker and started to run. I came in 3 rd place. I won a cup of lollies and I felt happy. Triathlon at Pohara. First I felt excited. I ran into the water and the sand, and then we biked around the camp and then we ran. I was nervous. I got scared when I was getting on my bike because a person rode really fast past me. I came 4th. I was exhausted after the triathlon. The iceblock helped me. The iceblock was yummy. I past heaps of people. My dad said I did well. I like triathlons. Tara Room 3 Go! I ran into the icy Pacific. I biked for a short time. I thought running was way longer. At last I was there. Ahhh! I said, as my teeth sank into my ice block. And please come up for prizes, Mikey, Jaiden, Caitlin. A spark of YES! Came into my mind as Mr C spoke those words. I got a chocolate bar. It was yummy. Yes! I said. On Friday the whole school went to the Pohara Campground. I ran so fast I was nervous. I felt great when I won. I felt really great! When I got home I was really proud of myself because I came first in the five year old girls. I had a sausage at lunch time. I liked it so much. Zoe M Room 3 Triathlon Fun By Caitlin Anderson Room 4 We were off in a flash, down the sand, thump, thump, thump. We jumped quickly on our bikes. Go, go, go, said Mum. I was gone. I came to where you drop your bikes, then I dashed like a hare around the camp ground. I felt like my legs were coming out and they were aching. Daisy came puffing past me. I tried to get away from Poppy because she was behind me. I came second in the triathlon. I was really proud. It was fun. I hope I can do it again. Triathlon Fun By Elisa Hubner Room 4 We were off, racing down the sand! My heart was banging. I waded through the water. I tripped in the water, but it did not hurt at all. I jumped on my bike and raced. I zoomed like a rocket. It was hard to brake when I went around the corner. I felt like I would never finish. I jumped off my bike and ran for my life, but Emma still beat me. I could hear adults cheering for us. I was puffing to death. I came second and got a certificate. I was very proud of myself. Motupipi Triathlon By Gypsy Turnbull Room 4 We were off! There were parents shouting loudly. There were waves splashing everywhere. I was puffed when we were swimming. I heard pitter, patter, pitter patter, as we went in the water in the sea. I was huffing and puffing. I jumped on my bike and raced to the bike finish and then I was off running. I was really puffed. It was hard, but I did it for fun and the ice block. I loved the triathlon. I came fourth. It is not about winning, it is about fun. It was amazing. When I got home, I said to myself, I want to do the triathlon again!!
3 Motupipi Triathlon By Dylan Room 4 Go! shouted Mr C. I ran into the water. Splash, splash, splash! Oh no! my shoe came off! I had to go back. Drat! That slowed me down. Ahhhh! My other shoe came off! I felt very scared. I did not think that I would win! I was paddling with my shoes. I could taste the sea salt. I waded past Helen, yelling Helen. Then I waded past another boy. Ahhhh! I had stepped into a hole. It was a big hole. I kept on going. Plop, plop, plop! Yes! I was out of the water.
4 Speed Limit Past School The Board of Trustees has made a submission to the Tasman District Council to look at lowering the speed limit to 50km. Currently the speed limit past school is 70km and the Council are proposing dropping it to 60km. We have included the following quotes which come directly from the TDC website on average every year 17 New Zealand children are killed after being struck by vehicles. Motupipi School Contact Details: 435 Abel Tasman Drive Takaka 7183 Phone: markc@motupipi.school.nz Or: office@motupipi.school.nz Internet Banking No: on average every week six New Zealand children go to hospital after being struck by vehicles. However the most telling point is that at 60kph compared to 50kph you will take almost 50% longer to stop. Central Takaka School Pumpkin Festival 2013 Last year we gave out giant pumpkin seeds with the hope that some may grow and be entered in the Central Takaka School Pumpkin Festival to be held on Wednesday 17th April. If you have grown one or more and want to enter your pumpkin, please let us know at school by 10th April and we will give you a programme. BMX Bike Raffle Fabulous ABD BMX Bike valued at $ in the office for Inspection. Don t forget to come and grab your tickets to be in to win. Tickets on sale in the office. $2.00ea or 3 tickets for $5.00 Stopping Distance Demonstration! Last week the school attended spectacular stopping distance demonstrations, complete with fast cars, cut out figures and fake blood, to help remind drivers to slow down. During the demonstration, a trained driving instructor showed how speed affects stopping distances. There were three runs with the car travelling at a different speed each time, but always starting and applying the brakes at the same time. The three different speeds the car travelled at were 20kmh, 50kmh and 60kmh. The last run at 60kmh will show how just an extra 10kmh affects a driver s ability to stop in time for a pedestrian (with the help of cardboard models). The demonstrations are also intended to remind children the dangers of stepping out in front of a moving vehicle and that the road is no playground. Speed is a major factor in crash statistics and travelling just 10kmh above the speed limit can make the difference between life and death. GRANDPARENTS ROCK!
