4 Math Activity By: Ivory Wascavage Mrs. Lewis recently completed a project titled Fractions in Action in the Neighborhood. For this project, students had to make a map of a neighborhood based on the directions given to them on their handout. The activity focused on equivalent fractions. Student were able to work in groups and even created a rough draft of their maps on their tables using expo markers. They enjoyed the project and should always remember equivalent fractions.

6 Black Diamond Cheer Conference By: Jocelyn Arthur Did you know our CMS cheerleaders came in first place this year? I think they done awesome, and did you know their coach got engaged that day? Rifle Season By: Junior Izaacs What is rifle season? Rifle season is when you can go and deer hunt with a rifle. How do you hunt with a rifle, you can get your rifle and go to a spot and set but when you see a deer you can shoot it. What kind of weapon doi use. You can use all kinds of riles only if they are legal.

10 Black Friday By: Luke Dingess I like Black Friday because it s fun. Also you get great deals on things. Black Friday is also not just at night. Black Friday is a scam for people to buy things. On Black Friday you should buy things you need. Instead of what you want. Black Friday is one of the biggest days of the year. A lot of people start looking at ads and preparing for this big shopping day way in advanced. Deer Hunting By: Brady Raines Hunting season is an awesome thing. It is fun to go and spend time with people you love. It keeps the balance of the wild game. A lot of families planning hunting trips together. Hunters must remember all the laws in order to be safe.
11 Christmas Parade By: Chloe Nelson The Christmas Parade is an event that people in the community of Chapmanville look forward to each other. It is an annual event that everyone participates in. Churches, athletes, bands, majorettes and even Santa are some of the familiar faces you see in the parade. Sometimes it ends out to be a white Christmas especially during the parade. It s a great way for the community to come together. Every year my family and I go out to the parade as well as many families. It is a Christmas tradition in our community. A lot of the children look forward to seeing Santa in the parade.
12 Boys Book Club By: Lucas Price This Year s 5th grade Book Club member are Lucas Price, Will Sweeney, Keith Ferguson, and Jonathon Christian. They are reading the one and only, TRACKER written by: Gary Paulsen. He is the master of survival books and loves to write. During this book, John s grandfather is dying and he must hunt alone. He tracks a doe for two entire days. But as he closes in on his prey, he realizes he can t shoot her. For John, the hunt is no longer about killing, but about life.

A: A Meowntain Christmas In The Park By: Zane Thomas There is a variety of things to do at Christmas in the Park. You can view the delightful light show, visit the gift shop and even see Santa. Donations are welcome and are used to purchase and repair displays. Remember to make sure to drive slowly and keep car headlights on. However, this event is free to public.

Pizza!!!! #4 How long have you been a teacher? This is my 37 th year of teaching. I started my career way back in the Fall of I have seen many changes over the years in teaching strategies. #5 What is your favorite book? I really don t sit and read a lot. I do love to read short articles from the magazine Guideposts when I read. #6 What is your favorite? Any type of movie that has Marvel Comic Book Heroes. My favorite television shows currently are The 100 and The Walking Dead. My favorite season is spring because everything in nature comes back to life. My favorite color is blue because it just relaxes a person. The most important thing in my life is my family, especially my mother Phyllis Bias. She always inspired my two brothers and I to do our best. She believes in working. Harry Potter did not know he was a wizard until the wizards from Hogwarts School of Witch Craft and wizardly starts giving him letters. Mr. Dursley tries to hide them but they just keep sending them. After Mr. Dursley reaches his breaking point, Hagrid comes to take Harry away from the dreadful place. Harry gets to go on the train and meets his best friend Ron Weasley. When they get there, something strange is going on at Hogwarts. When Harry finally finds the sorcerers stone. When you doe hunt you have to have orange on. Also you can only kill a certain amount of deer. You have to have deer hunting permits. You have to tag your deer also. Also doe season comes in 9/26/15 with a bow. With a gun it comes in 11/14/15 and with a muzzle loader it comes in in 10/17/15. The bag limit with a gun is two deer. It s illegal to hunt or trap deer on some else s land. Also you cannot hunt with a fully automatic firearm. You cannot shoot a deer while it is in water. Carry a gun without a case on it. You can shoot a gun 400 feet away from a church or school.
15 Pumpkin Rolls By: Ivory Wascavage Pumpkin rolls 1/4 cup powdered sugar (to sprinkle on towel) 3/4 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 1/2 tsp. ground ginger 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg 1/4 tsp. ground cloves 1/4 teaspoon salt 3 large eggs 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1 cup granulated sugar 2/3 cup pumpkin puree Cream Cheese Filling Ingredients: 1 (8 oz.) brick cream cheese, room temperature 1 cup powdered sugar, sifted 6 Tbsp. butter, softened 1 tsp. vanilla extract Preheat oven to 375 F. Line a 15 x 10-inch jelly-roll pan with parchment paper. Grease paper with cooking spray. Lay out a thin, cotton kitchen towel so that it is flat, then sprinkle it generously with powdered sugar. Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves and salt in medium bowl until combined. In a large bowl using an electric mixer, beat eggs and granulated sugar on medium speed until thick. Add in vanilla and pumpkin, and beat until combined. Stir in flour mixture until just combined. Spread evenly into prepared pan.

Snow Days By: Tristan Milligan Don t you love snow days? They are so beautiful and amazing if you know what I mean. You can build snow piles and jump in them have an amazing time with your friends by throwing snowballs at each other. Also you can build a snow man and have a big orange carrot for his nose! But you might not want to drive because there can be really bad results, like wreaking and getting hurt bad or someone in your family could get hurt. It s cold to but that s ok! You can still have fun with your family! However, remember even snow days are great we have to keep in mind the 180 school day law.

Candy Canes I polled fifth graders about their favorite Christmas dish. The results were eight people picked candy canes, seven people picked gingerbread, three people picked chocolate, two people picked eggnog, one person picked ham, zero people picked assorted nuts, one person picked peanut brittle, zero people picked chestnuts, two people picked pumpkin pie, zero people picked fruitcake.

20 Canned Food Drive By: Jennifer Evans Canned Food Drive Questions What class brought the most canned food? How many baskets did you make? When did you deliver them? What canned food did you see the most of? What grade brought the most canned food? How many cans did the whole school raise? How many families did you deliver the baskets to? How much money did you raise? Did you just send the baskets in Logan County or close by County s too? Are you glad so many people participated in the canned food drive? Answers Mrs. Farris s homeroom brought the most food. We made 50 baskets. We gave out Thanks giving basket on November 17 th We had more corn than anything. 6 th grade brought the most cans in. Not sure of cans and money, but we got enough to make 50 baskets. 25 at Thanksgiving 25 to still give out at Christmas. We had over $ in donations. Just in Logan County. I am very happy and pleased that our students at CMS participated in the canned food drive. I also want to thank the staff and so many parents who helped make it such a great success. We are blessed at CMS.
