3 All County Band by Callie McNeely On March 29, 2018 band students from Logan county auditioned to be in all county band, a type of honor band in which band members in Logan's middle schools and high schools come together to form a band of the best in the county. Many band members from Chapmanville Middle auditioned, and their names are Chloe Sims, Michael Ojeda, Preston McCallister, Brooklyn Lambert, Patrick Nappier, Callie McNeely, Silas Frye, Cheyanne Akers, and Meghan Hager. They are all wonderful young musicians, and we are very proud to call them Tigers! Every band student was accepted and will participate in Logan all county band 2018! Word of the Day by Nina Ellis The word of the day is manticore. The manticore is a Persian legendary creature similar to the Egyptian sphinx. It has the head of a human, the body of a lion, and a tail of poisonous spines like porcupine quills, and other depictions have it with the tail of a scorpion. There are some accounts that the spines can be shot like arrows, thus making the manticore a lethal predator. It eats its victim's whole, using its triple rows of teeth, and leaves no bones behind. So, that is the word of the day!

4 Favorite Day of the Week by Nina Ellis Friday is my favorite day out of the week because it's the end of the week, and it's really fun on the weekend. Some things I do are play with my brother and go to the movies with my family and friends. What I love the most is going to Charleston on the weekend and getting different things for me like clothes and such. So that is my favorite day of the week and things I love to do. Spring Break by Kaden Pridemore This year there has been many different things going on this year, we didn t get a spring break on our schedule. One option was to get an educational leave, if you already had a trip planned. The reason we didn t have one is because of a teacher strike. The reason for the strike was the proposal of a pay grade by the teachers and raised insurance prices. I myself went camping and had an educational leave. That is the run-down of the controversy and confusion of Logan County Spring Break Crisis.

5 Memorial Day by Eva Toler Memorial Day is a day we honor the fallen soldiers. This is an emotional day as well as a very honored one too. We use this day to honor all the brave men and women that have fallen to help keep our country free. We should honor the bravery they put into our country every day. Logan County Ratings Band Festival by Callie McNeely On April 11, 2018 Chapmanville Middle School's 6th-8th grade band members traveled to CRHS to be rated by judges. Each band would be given a being the best. Chapmanville Middle has shown major improvements in the last four years, starting at a 5 in the year 2015, a 3 in 2016, and a 1 in 2017! This year, the band received the excellent rating of 2 while playing Mystic Journey by Robert Sheldon and Appalachian Overture by Robert W. Smith. We congratulate the 6th-8th grade band on their wonderful job!

6 National Teachers Day by Eva Toler National Teachers Day is a special day we use to celebrate the teachers that put their hard work in every day. We honor our teachers and celebrate all the hard work they ve put into being a teacher. Teachers should celebrate every day of the year for all they do. Teachers are great and teach the upcoming generations. Track & Field by Frank Bailey Last Saturday the track team got 4th out of 12 teams. We had a first in history at Chapmanville last Saturday for pole vault. Mark McCoy got 5 feet 6 inches in it. The boys threw the shotput 37 feet. The girls long jump was 15.3 in it. the boys long jump got 17.1 in it. We placed 4th in the 4 by 100 relay. That s when you run 100 meters, and then pass a stick to a teammate for them to run 100 meters.

7 Summer Break by Kaitlynn Woody Summer break is almost here. It's time to start planning for your summer vacation. Many people go to many different places. Some people go to the beach, Orlando Studios, Disney World, Tennessee, Kings Island, Cedar Point, Six Flags, etc. I'm so excited for summer! There's many different beaches to go to. There's Daytona Beach, Myrtle Beach, Virgina Beach, etc. You can go shopping at the beach and ride some different rides on the strips. Tennessee has an amusement park called Dollywood and a water park called Splash Country. You also can ride rides on the stirp and go shopping. Kings Island is an amusement park. You can also stay at Great Wolf Lodge and walk to Kings Island. Great Wolf Lodge is a hotel that has fun activities such as a huge indoor water park, restaurants, game rooms, Magi Quest, etc. Cedar Point is an amusement park with a lake in the bag. Six Flags is an amusement park. That's some places you can visit on your summer vacation! Teacher of the Month by Taylor Scudero How do you like Chapmanville Middle so far? I love Chapmanville Middle School! The students and staff are wonderful. What subject do you teach? Math 8 What do you like about CMS so far? Everything except evening traffic lol What schools did you use to teach at? Harts Jr-Sr High, Man Jr High, Logan Jr High, Omar Jr High, Logan High school, and Logan Middle School What part of math is your favorite to teach? My favorite is probability. I used it so much in teaching genetics.

8 Student of the Month by Alyssa Johnson The student of the month for February are Lauren Workman and Will Kirkendall. Lauren has been picked before for student of the month before. Lauren s favorite thing about CMS is the teachers. Her favorite kind of music is pop. Her favorite food is French fries, and her favorite drink is Gatorade. Lauren plays tennis and she likes it because it's fun. Her favorite subject is science. Her favorite book is the Percy Jackson books. Will has been picked for student of the month before. Will s favorite thing about CMS is that it has a nice environment and nice teachers. His favorite kind of music is pop music. His favorite kind of food is steak, and his favorite drink is cherry coke. Will s favorite hobbies are basketball, baseball, and playing outside. Will plays basketball, basketball, and he runs cross country. He likes them because they are fun, and he really enjoys them. His favorite subject is English. His favorite author is James Dasher, who wrote the maze runner. His favorite T.V. show is ESPN and Stuck in the middle. His favorite actors are Kevin Hart and Dylan O' Brien. Easter by Taylor Scudero This Easter will lie on April 1st which is a Sunday. What will you be doing this Easter? Most people will be going to Church and hunting Easter Eggs. Other people might be coloring eggs. Easter also means when Jesus resurrected from the grave. The name Easter comes from Eostre, a Teutonic goddess of Spring. Jesus Christ resurrection is described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day of his burial after his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary c. 30 AD.

9 How to Prepare for a Test by Alyssa Johnson To prepare for a test, you should always start studying when the teacher gives you a study guide, or when they tell you that you have a test, up until test day. Also, you should get plenty of sleep the night before the test, so you won't be sleepy during the test. The morning of the test you should always eat a good breakfast to keep your energy up and your mind not so distracted on being hungry. During a test make sure you have pencil and paper. Another thing, make sure you wear comfortable clothes the day of the test, so when you take the test you'll be comfortable and less distracted on not being comfortable. Fishing by Frank Bailey I will tell you about fishing and how to be safe when you go fishing. First you have to get a rod and some worms to go fishing. Then, you get your fishing license if you are over 15. Then, you go make sure you check the rules so you don t break them.

11 Cyberbullying by Nathan Lusk Cyberbullying is when you bully someone online. Bullying happens when someone constantly makes fun of you or harasses you. Cyberbullying is when you do it online. If someone is getting bullied, you need to tell a teacher an adult. Mr. May's Favorite Recipe by Trenton Porter 1. Chicken soaked in BBQ sauce for six hours 2. 12 Riding Safety Tips by Trenton Porter 1. Always wear a helmet 2. Never ride under the influence of alcohol or drugs. 3. Supervise riders younger than Don t ride alone on remote trails. Use the buddy system. 5. Ride only on designated trails and at a safe speed 6. Dirt bikes are not toys. Easter by Nathan Lusk Easter is a festival and holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. It occurred on the third day of his burial after his crucifixion. The Easter bunny seems to have originated in Germany, where it was mentioned in their writings in the 1500s. People also hide Easter eggs and go hunt for them.

13 Spring Formal by Kaitlynn Woody CMS has a spring formal dance every year. The girls look forward to finding a beautiful dress to suit them for the night. This year's spring formal theme was Glow in the dark/neon. It was on Saturday May 5th, 2018 from 5-8pm. It costed $10.00 to get in. Pop, pizza, cupcakes and candy were sold. Pictures were taken. The DJ was Mr. Anderson, Mrs. Andersons husband. Parents were allowed in only if they signed up to chaperone. Kids from other schools were not allowed to attend. Softball by Baylee Belcher Softball is finally here! We have been rained out so much. Our first game was supposed to be the 23rd but that was rained out, so now our first game is today, the 29th. We have a lot of girls on the team. Two of our starters are out for 4 weeks. Katlin Moore might be out for the rest of the year. I hope not, but that's what might happen. We have a pretty good team if only we would put more effort into what we do. I wish us luck and hope everyone can come see us play and do great! Hope to see you there!

16 Baseball by Caleb Hurst The baseball team is off to a 2-3 season. They have lost to Wayne, Poca, and Logan. All the games were good games, and close ones. They have won against the Hamlin Bobcats and the Sherman Tide. The Tigers' season is looking bright. They fell a little short last year, but the way they are playing their season this year could turn out well. CMS Field Trips by Kaden Pridemore There are 4 clubs having field trips. Journalism, and Prayer Club. Anyone that has 1 day of ISS can't go on Honor Society or Student Council trip. Anyone who has got 2 days of ISS or 1 day of OSS can't go on the Journalism Trip. I have details on 2 clubs Prayer Club, and Journalism. The Journalism classes will go to Quantum Sports located in Charleston, WV. They will be back to the school at 2:45 and will be chaperoned by Lisa Dingess, Katie Craig, Sheila Maynard, Te Te Vance, and Angie Kirk. The Prayer Club will be going to Chief Logan State Park. The Prayer Club trip will be on June 1. They will be back before school ends; the reason is because of bus shortages. Mrs. Kirk chose this location. The chaperones are Angie Kirk, Katie Craig, Courtney Woody, and Te-Te Vance.
