1 Winter White Wash: 2019 Sabryn Burris Winter White Wash is a Christian camp for kids to get away and ski or snowboard. The camp started on Friday January people were invited and 28 people went. When we arrived, at our hotel we went to our rooms and unpacked. Then we ate dinner. The first night we had pizza. After that, we went to the main room and sang some songs and listened to a sermon. Then we had youth group time. The first night was a dodgeball tournament and people would bring their best outfits to show off and get entered into a competition. On the second day we went to the Gryphon Theater which is where it was held. We showed up in the morning and ate breakfast and packed our lunches for the ski trip. After packing our sandwiches, we headed out to the lodge. We get there about 8:00 a.m. We get our clothing gear on and head on out to the slopes. There was a slight wind and it was just a little cold. After we skied for most of the day, we headed back to the hotel at 3:30. We change our clothes and had nachos for dinner. After that we listened to another sermon and sang more songs. Finally, we went to the rec center where we could swim, or play basketball or volleyball. When we got back to the hotel after swimming we ordered pizza. After a long day of skiing and swimming we were tired and ready for a good night's sleep. When we woke we packed everything up again and headed back home. This was a great weekend and we hope to go back next year!

2 Holyoke Sports High School Boys Basketball By: Wyatt Sprague On Tuesday the Dragons played the St. Francis Indians. Both of the teams played very well. The Dragons had 3 freshman starting, Miles Sprague, Ethan Johnson, and Kaison Kinnie. The Indians ended up beating the Dragons by a score of Junior High Girls Basketball By: Tayla Martin On Thursday, January 24, the junior high girls basketball team played in Wray. The C team played hard, but they ended up losing by six. The final score was 20 to 14. Next, the B team played and it was a very close game. Erin Andersen plays on the B team and she thinks the game could have gone better. She thinks that they made lots of stupid mistakes and there were too many turnovers that shouldn t have happened. The final score was 16 to 18. Being a player on A team, I would say the game didn t go too well. It started out pretty decent, with Holyoke having the first two points on the scoreboard. I would say it escalated down pretty fast from there. Our team did lots of things well, but we also did too many things wrong. Wray kept on scoring and we couldn t keep up. The final score was 24 to 44. This Thursday, the girls play Caliche. There will be an A game and a B game. HS Basketball By: Emma Thompson Victoria Race is currently a Junior this year and is playing on the Varsity team for basketball. She said that being a Junior is a new eye-opening-experience. Her favorite coach is Mr.Baumgartner, The thing that is different from last year, is the roles that each person plays on the team. Tori s favorite play is Double, also her hardest competitor on the team is Taeryn Trumper. But the hardest competition for the team is the Yuma Indians. Their practice lasts anywhere from 2-2 and a half hours. Also her favorite position to play is high post because she can make those shots.

3 Teacher Spotlight Mrs. Schlacter By: Karlie Martin and Isaiah Rueter Mrs. Schlacter went to college in Laramie and then in NJC because she got married. She teaches first grade. Her favorite animal is a cow. As the only human left on earth she would relax. One skill she would like to master is learning Spanish so she can talk to her new students and other people. The most interesting place she has been is Texas. She would to live here because it is small and the farming. The biggest influence on her is her kids and her family. She was born in Haxtun. If she had on superpower it would be speed so she could get more things done. Her favorite part of her career are being with the kids. Mrs. Goss By: Tayla Martin Mrs. Goss is the science teacher at the Elementary school. She taught for two years in Holyoke; but then she took time off and had her kids. Four years ago, she came back and started teaching again. She enjoys teaching in Holyoke but she lives in Fleming so she has to commute every morning. She says that the commute can be annoying when the weather is bad, but sometimes it can be good. When she s driving she can think about what she will do that day, so most of the time it s okay. Some of the goals that Mrs. Goss has for the semester is to incorporate what she learned when she went to Science Days at NJC. When she was there she played with Edison Robots and she is planning a day when her class will play with them. Her goals for her classes are to be more aware and understanding of other people s feelings. She also wants them to be more positive with each other. Mrs. Goss s favorite part of teaching is connecting with students and being able to see when they learn something.

4 High School Spotlight Kristin Vieselmeyer By: Emma Thompson Kristin Vieselmeyer is a freshman this year and is fourteen years old. Kristin s favorite movie is 21 and 22 Jump Street, and her favorite subject in school is World History. Her favorite food is pomegranates and her favorite game is Mario Kart. Kristin s dream college is University of Lincoln Nebraska. She says that if she could travel back in time she would go back to the 70 s, and if she could travel anywhere in the world she would go to Bora Bora. Her favorite Disney Princess is Ariel, and her favorite sport is volleyball.

5 JH Spotlight Elise Krogmeier By:Clover Adler Elise Krogmeier is an eighth grader this year and is loving it!! Elise s favorite animal is sharks, and her favorite food is pizza. Also her favorite class is her history class, and the teacher for that class is Ms. Petersen. The she plays are basketball, volleyball, track, and swims. Her favorite out of all of them is basketball. Elise also plays the saxophone in the junior high band. Elise has three older siblings (a brother and two sisters). Her favorite sibling is her sister Emily. Also Elise has two pets (a dog and a cat), the cats name is Crush and her dog s name is Cooper. Elise s favorite color is blue.. She says that if she could travel anywhere in the world she would go to Bora Bora. Her dream job is to be a music or art teacher, and if she could be a superhero she would be Arrow. Elise also likes to go to the zoo. For college she wants to go to either CSU or Concordia to play basketball.

6 Community News Local Fire- Erin Andersen On January 27th, there was a local fire here in Holyoke. The fire burnt down the garage that was built two years ago. The fire lasted for 15 minutes before they were able to put it out. The fire killed chickens, and a couple of bunnies. They had a dog, but it safely got out. The family has six members in their family. They have four kids, all are okay. There are two parents. Everyone made it safely out just fine. Thankfully the family is fine, just a little traumatized. They are planning to rebuild their garage very soon. Lots has to be done. Sources of Strength- Anna Hayes The past few days, Jacky Mosqueda and a few others did a project about cliques. On Tuesday, the JH students went into the new gym while Jacky talked to us about the difference between friend groups and cliques. We then all played this team building exercise where each grade held hands and passed a hula hoop around the circle. The second day, the two grades filed into the old gym where we had a mini lesson about friends and team building. Everyone then split up into their eighth hour classes and got into a circle. Each class held hands and tried to keep two balloons off the ground. We then said things we regret and wrote apology letters. The point of the project was to build new friendships and teams.

7 Recipe Sweetheart Cupcakes By Bryson Dirks 1 (18.25 ounce) package white cake mix 1 1/4 cups water 1/3 cup vegetable oil 3 egg whites 8 drops red food coloring 2 drops raspberry candy oil Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a standard muffin tin with paper cupcake liners. Beat the cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and egg whites together on low speed for 30 seconds, then on medium for 2 minutes, until smooth. Fill cupcake liners 1/3 full with white batter; set aside. Stir 4 drops of red food coloring into the remaining bowl of batter to make the batter pink, stir in the raspberry oil. Pour 1/3 of pink batter into a resealable plastic bag and set aside. Mix more food coloring into the remaining bowl of pink batter until it is an orange/red color and pour the batter into a resealable plastic bag. Cut a corner off the bag, stick the open tip into the center of each cup of white batter and squeeze in about two tablespoons of red batter. Cut the corner off the bag with the pink batter, stick the open tip into the center of the red batter and squeeze about 1 tablespoon pink batter into each cup. Bake the layered cupcakes in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, 15 to 20 minutes. Cool completely before frosting.
