1 C O M M E R C E H I G H S C H O O L Tiger Chat January 2018 Homecoming Hunter Burkybile and Alexa Carrillo The Crown 2017 COMMERCE PLAYOFFS King and Queen Homecoming court Justin Jarnagin and Breanna Patterson, Zaine Cheater and Chelsea Dunbar, Bryar Chandler and Judith Medina, Hunter Burkybile, and Alexa Carrillo, Kiante Edwards and Laney Smith, Maverick Manning and Josalynn Barr, Ty Miller and Halle North. The Commerce Tigers played the Salina Wildcats in the first round of the OSSAA State Playoffs. The Tigers were off to a slow start but with nice defensive stands late into the game, the Tigers were able to notch their first win in the bracket in 4 years. The Tigers won and rolled on to defeat Valliant in the second round by a score of The Tigers rolled on all the way to the Third Round where they fell to a very Senior heavy team, Washington. The Tigers played re- lentlessly this year, with the team accomplishing many records and awards such as the Bi-District Championship was a year the Tigers will remember, forever. By; Hayden Moss

2 Winter Bass Fishing Catching bass in the winter may not be as easy as it is in the spring and summer. Bass tend to not chase as much and do not like to work very hard for food when the water temperatures drop below 50 degrees and often times go deeper when winter hits. Effective fishing techniques in the winter are a little different than at other times. In the By; Reese Littlejohn winter, try fishing with large soft plastic swim baits or spinner baits but throw them slow and deep. In the winter, some small fish also start to die because of the cold so sometimes a silver-colored bait with a slow fall will work too. The deeper and slower you fish in the cold, the better chance you have. New Year Resolutions By Carla Ybarra I plan on being able to run a 4 minute mile by the end of Jacob Bachman 2018 To improve my soccer technique in every way possible. -Kevin Juarez Series of unfortunate events book review by: Alyssa Kelly I highly recommend reading the series of unfortunate events. It is a rather long series but is very worth it. The Baudelaires lost their parents in a house fire leaving them orphans. They were then sent to a cousin they called Count Olaf. Olaf didn t care much for the kids, but he cared a great deal about the fortune that came with them. In fact, he goes to great measures to get his hands on the Bauldelaire fortune. He will stop at absolutely nothing until he has it. This book is ex- tremely intense and suspenseful. It is a great read. Page 2 TI GE R CHAT

Rebounding was outstanding. Coach Tyree also stated that a new top scorer is made every game. This year we have a lot of teamwork and new team leaders are stepping up. This trophy not only proved that this year s team is prospering, but it also had some sentimental value to it. Coach Tyree Jr. and his father Tyree Sr. may be the only father son duo to win the NEO Tournament. It keeps you hydrated and helps you do things without being tired. It could also clear up your face and help you lose weight. DRINK A GALLON OF WATER A DAY! by Chris Ibarra Insidious: The Last Key Movie Review Insidious: The Last Key is a good movie. The house where the hauntings are happening is the one in which Elise grew up. Elise helps people with demonic activities in their house. She was blessed with a gift to communicate and see the dead and demons. Elise s mother died in that house. Her father was a drunk who was controlled by a demon who would kill women and trap them in his basement. Many years later she got a call from this guy for help. The same demonic spirit that controlled her dad was controlling him. She and her team didn t stop until they got rid of the demons and spirits. At the end Elise and her brother were reunited. 6 Cooking with Jeyny Ancient cultures have long used soups and broths as home remedies for colds and the flu. Even scientific data shows that soups are more than just good for your soul. Nothing is better than a hot soup on a cold day. Ingredients: 1 pound beef tripe, cut into small squares 3 fresh cloves garlic, minced 3 teaspoons salt 1/2 cup red chili powder 2 teaspoons oregano leaves 1 tablespoons coarse black pepper 1 teaspoons cumin powder 1/2 small onion chopped 1 small can hominy, yellow or white Yield: 4 servings. Directions: Place beef tripe into a pot of boiling water, just enough to cover the tripe. Add garlic and onions and salt. Cover and cook for about 1 hour. When tripe is tender add the remaining ingredients including the hominy and cook about 15 or 20 minutes longer. Add more salt if needed. This is a spicy dish and it goes well with cilantro and a twist of lime. Corn tortillas are a good compliment. What did you do for New Years? Calvin Howard I slept a lot. 7 Star Wars: THE LAST JEDI Star Wars the Last Jedi was full of action and adventure. I liked how the movie showed Rey s journey to becoming a Jedi and how the force was building inside her as the movie went on. It seemed like everyday she was getting stronger and stronger.
