3 Hello Everyone, We are very excited about this year s summer outreach plans. Many of you have talked to me about going outside of the church and spending time with people in their communities. One of the exact phrases I remember hearing is, There are so many children out there who are hurting and will never come to church. Why can t we go to where they are? Guess what? This year, we are going to do it! We are taking our Summer Fun Week Program outside of the church. July 17-22nd, we are doing outreach in our community. Our goal is to go out, meet the people and let them know that someone cares. We want them to know that we love them. We have chosen three community housing developments to go to: Farragut, Walt Whitman, and Ingersoll. In each community housing development, we will host a day of fun and celebration. We are envisioning a mini-carnival/fair type atmosphere. The day will be filled with fun games and various activities such as face painting, crafts, sack race, jump rope station, big board games, can stack, and more. We will have clowns and other characters interacting with the children, singing, dancing, give away prizes and snacks (cotton candy, ices, chips, etc.) At the end of the day, we will share a short lesson that encourages the kids to love and care for one another. Farragut, Walt Whitman, and Ingersoll community houses are located in the Fort Green Community. The population inside of the 3 community houses is 51,000 people. WOW! What an opportunity we have to get out there and show people the love of Christ. We are looking forward to partnering with you. Regards, Gloria Bridgeman BT KIDS! Director Corey Pettway Director of Discipleship Ministry Go out into the highways and along the hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled (Luke 14:23) 3

13 Monday - Friday 13

14 Summer Fun Celebration Monday - Friday This week will not be the typical Summer Fun Week. Usually, we spend countless of hours preparing a building and waiting for the children to arrive. This year, we are taking the program to the children and families in the community. This provides us with a great opportunity to get to know whole families. We are focusing on 3 communities houses in the Fort Greene area: Farragut, Walt Whitman, and Ingersoll. We do not know what we will encounter when we go out into the community, and we can not dictate how we will be received. The one thing we can be sure of is that we have the Love of God on the inside of us. The majority of the time, all people really want to know is that someone cares. This week provides us with a great opportunity to go out and show people that we care and to demonstrate the Love of God. I Corinthians 13 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. 15 Monday & Tuesday July 17 - July 18 We have prepared a wonderful day for the children. We have games, activities, prizes, snacks and more. We are preparing lessons and agendas, getting permits and trying to make this day as exciting as possible. In the end, we have to get the word out. We have to let people know about this super fun event we are planning. Monday, July 17th and Tuesday, July 18th, we are going into the community, knocking on doors and inviting people to come to our Summer Fun Celebration event. We will work together in teams and have fun together. Two years ago, one team went out to invite kids to Summer Fun Week (SFW). They went inside of an apartment building and knocked on a door. An elderly lady opened the door. She did not have children who could attend SFW, but, she was so excited that people took the time to knock on her door, she cried. The next week, the team invited the lady to have lunch with them. She cried all the way through the lunch and later said, This was the best day, I have had in a long time. Luke 14:23 says Go out into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full. We are very excited to have the opportunity to Go out and knock on door. You don t know whose door you will knock on. You don t know the affect that, that one encounter will bring. We will trust the Lord for divine encounters and amazing moments where we can let his light shine through us. All sites are within walking distances. You will do a lot of walking. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring water. Also, read the section pages 4 & 5 regarding street blitz.
