1 MARCH 2016 EDINBURGH PONY CLUB EDITION 1 CLUB UPDATE Our first all day rally NEXT ALL DAY RALLY FRIDAY 25 MARCH 9:30AM-3:30PM ONLINE BOOKING NOW OPEN BOOK EARLY TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT! (LAST RALLY OF OLD PREPAYMENT SCHEME) Well, what a day! The sun shone and seventeen members had an amazing day full of fun, great instruction and catching up with old friends and new members. Rockrose as a venue surpassed expectations with the full arena making it possible to run two groups at one time with the other two groups absorbed in dismounted training. Parent helpers all did a wonderful job, with their tight hold on their roles, they gathered up the groups, keeping them to schedule throughout the day. I believe we ran over time only by about 30 mins which was great going for our first rally. Our four instructors, Lisa Hiddlestone, Kate Bowie, Fiona McIntosh and Robert did an amazing job, diligently filling out our new member s progress folders, giving members written feedback. The dismounted classes covered important aspects of theory and knowledge in a fun way with all members gaining new badges. Finally, I d like to thank you all for having faith in our club and renewing your membership for another year. A huge thank you to your committee who have been amazing over these last few months helping to re-energize the club. 2016/17 year will be a great year, with ten all day rallies, numerous social events, camp, specialist clinics and team competitions to look forward to, it will be action packed. The new logo is modern fresh but respects the heritage of the Club by retaining the roundel and horse illustration. It will be rolled out gradually, so if replacing any items do check with us first. 4 STOP PRESS STOP PRESS Pony Club Road Rider Test We are setting up a two day course with the aim to get members through their Pony Club Road Rider Test. It is the Pony Club equivalent test to the BHS Road Safety Exam and the two day course costs hopefully about 60. Members who are aiming to achieve their C, C+ and B exams should have obtained either this award or the BHS Road Safety. The aim of the Pony Club Road Rider Test is to promote safety on the road by recognising riders who can show that they ride with courtesy and responsibility, are aware of and obey the law, the Highway Code. Riders must be over 12 years old. The dates will be out soon. MORE THAN 4,000 HORSE RIDERS AND CARRIAGE DRIVERS WERE ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL BETWEEN APRIL AND MARCH FROM INJURY IN A TRANSPORT ACCIDENT There are three parts to the Pony Club Road Rider Test: The Theory Test Designed to test the rider s knowledge of the Highway Code and of the generally accepted rules of riding on the highway as set out in the current edition of Junior Road Rider. Ten questions may be given orally or in the form of a test paper and should invite factual answers, not opinions. Candidates should achieve 8 out of 10 to pass this section. The Tack and Turnout Inspection Know the importance of Be Seen to Be Safe. This part of the test ensures the rider is prepared for the road. Complex Simulated Route Designed to test in safe but simulated road conditions, a rider s precautions against and reactions to a series of noises and sights which could be reasonably met with locally on the roads and which might make a horse shy. Road junctions are included so that candidates may demonstrate their road craft and ability to use arm signals. HAVE A LAUGH AND FUN WITH FRIENDS 8. NO AGE OR HEIGHT RESTRICTION! We have the opportunity to join Dalkeith District Pony Club for games training and mini competitions. They are just starting out this Friday with their first dismounted games session and plan to run a regular games night. Dalkeith is keen to join forces and run games with us in a friendly non competitive way. The plan has just been hatched so I think we should have a go and see how it works. It will be great, in the training we can compete together at a friendly level make even more friends! Do not be put off with your pony height no-one knows how to leap onto their pony anyway! This is all for fun remember how much you all love doing games at camp! So have a go come along to the first games night wear your Edinburgh Pony Club jumper, there is a proper Games coach who will set out some dismounted games for you all to play. Cost is 3 per member to take part. I really hope some of you will attend as it is very kind of Dalkeith to open this out to us. Let me know if you wish to attend so I can let them know numbers and just pay Dalkeith DC on the night.
