1 WINTER 2011 NEWSLETTER Deveron Branch of the Pony Club Hi everyone, We will soon be getting into the swing of Christmas and New Year but before we do, don t forget what s coming up at Pony Club. We ve got the show jumping rally, mini rallies, badge evenings, the Christmas Ceildih and presentation, a tri-triathlon day, quiz practises and, in the new year, our Club Evening. Hopefully the weather will stay nice enough to ride out for the time being. The snow came shockingly quickly last year on the night of the Ceilidh - let s hope it stays off long enough for everyone to get there this time. Fiona Hill is putting together our annual Pony Club calendar Year Planner (always a hit!) which will be handed out at the ceilidh - if you re not going to be there, don t worry - we will get yours to you somehow. It will have lots of important Area dates on it and, of course, the usual pictures from camp January is traditionally a quiet time for Pony Club when we can all take a breather and if we have to, baton down the hatches for snow and the really cold weather. Pony Club is so busy all year it s the one month when our committee members can relax. They all work extremely hard and I think you can allow them this! We are now into dark mornings and evenings. While you re warming your toes by the fire remember your ponies outside: make sure they re warm and have access to plenty of hay and clean water - and remember to break any ice on your buckets and troughs regularly. There s just space now to say Happy Christmas to all of you and a prosperous New Year... Happy Pony Clubbing too! PS It s only six weeks until the days begin to get longer again! 2 YESTERDAY S NEWS... DRESSAGE WEEKEND Lots of you took advantage of great weather and hospitality at Wilma s at the recent dressage weekend where International dressage rider Cathy Burrell was on hand with tests, tricks and tips on how to get the best out of your horse in the manege this winter. We all look forward to seeing her again next year when we will be in serious business preparing for events and Interbranch next summer. Can t wait! SHOW JUMPING Four teams from Deveron took part in the team SJ competition at Fountain Equestrian Centre hosted by More on these stories - and pictures on the website... Deeside Pony Club. Our minis and adult minis finished 2nd, while our novices and intermediates came 1st. What a triumph! Well done to Tara, Lizzie, Ashley, Abby, Megan, Lucy, Maisie, Sally, Lindsay, Kelsey and Lauren. TETRATHLON The Aberdeen Area triathlon was another roaring success. Deveron was well represented by Sally, Heather, Eilidh, Lindsay, Tara, Nikki, Anna and Jamie. We had team success with the mini mini girls and the minimus. Jamie finished 3rd in his class while Sally won the Junior girls overall with a Personal Best in her swimming. COMING SOON.. SHOW JUMPING RALLY AT THE CABIN It s indoors so this one will not be postponed! Sarah Murray will be putting groups through their paces this weekend. Most people will have their names down by now... if you need your times please call Sarah Ingram on and she can tell you what time to be there. SATURDAY S MINI RALLY AT WILMAS Wilma should already have your name if you re coming - but if you re keen and haven t yet put your name down - you won t be turned away. There will be the chance to get your Native Pony badge on the same day with Jennifer Herd... So, come on, let s hear from you. CHRISTMAS CEILIDH & PRESENTATION Tickets are selling well for our Christmas Ceilidh on the 25th November. How will we recognise each other in our glad rags and not our nag rags? The party will kick off with the presentation of trophies and awards from 2011 followed by Stovies and dancing to a live band. Feel free to just come along to the presentation if you like... or if you need to buy tickets please call any committee member. COME AND HAVE A GO... We re planning a triathlon practice on Sunday 11th December at Kinnermit. Try shooting, running, swimming and maybe even some fencing or just come for a social. Mince pies and coffee will be the order of play. Thereafter, anyone who wants to train should get in touch with Lucy. Last year, our members did very well and practised every week achieving some fantastic results and the Area competitions. If there s enough interest we can have some regular practise sessions this year. Call Lucy Mair on if you re planning to come along on the 11th. CHRISTMAS SHOW Our ever-popular Christmas show is planned for the 17th December at Faraway. It all kicks off at 10am. Book your place by getting your entry and 5 fee in to us and tell us which classes you would like to take part in. One price, 6 classes! Auntie Gill s mince pies will be served with mulled wine and hot chocolate. And we hope there will be a special, surprise visitor! If the weather s rotten we will de-camp to the McRae s indoor school for a party on foot... same games, same prizes and same surprise visitor! ACHIEVEMENT BADGES We have a couple of badge night meetings coming up. Susan Cowie will be taking a Human First Aid badge at her place on Thursday 5th January. 3 ALL THE OTHER STUFF... Also, on Saturday 4th February Emma Haley will be running a badge afternoon on Safety Equipment. How well does your back protector and hat fit? This is for members and parents - so everyone welcome. Please call Emma on if you re coming and meet at Whitehill Church, Grange, Knock. QUIZ Practice sessions will start again soon in readiness for the Area 1 competition which will be held by East Aberdeenshire on the 25th February The final will be hosted by Moray & Nairn on March 17th. We are looking for teams of seniors and juniors to represent Deveron. Hopefully we can find more than two teams! Sarah Ingram will be taking the seniors and asks for anyone interested to contact her to arrange practise sessions. Wilma will be taking the juniors and already has a few dates earmarked (see below and dates for your diary). This is a lot of fun so please come along and give it a go, we d love to see you at practices. Afterall, there s not much riding to be done when there s snow and ice on the ground! Make a note of the 10th February We are planning our club evening at Forgue Hall for a review of the year and a look at the year ahead. It s a general get together with talks, fun and refreshments. Open to all members and parents. More information to follow. C and C+ TEST Wilma will be getting practises organised next spring so anyone who is keen to take their C or C+ should put forward their names to Wilma as soon as possible. MEMBERSHIP It s that time of year again when we ask for your membership renewals. These need to be paid on the 1st January It s only 58 (or 145 for a family of three or more) and remember nearly all of Britain s most successful riders were once a Member of The Pony Club. At the last count we have 61 members. This is the highest its been for a very long time - let s keep it that way. MERCHANDISE Introducing the new Pony Club stock! This very smart stock complete with its own tiepin can be worn at all Pony Club events, and rallies. Recognised by HQ, members aged over 14 are being encouraged to wear one with show jackets or sweatshirts. Our younger members can purchase one for shows but won t be able to wear it at rallies until they are 14! A perfect stocking filler - they cost and you can order them along with any other sweatshirts, ties or jackets from Sarah Ingram: sarah@sarahingramorangehome.co.uk RALLY RULES Rallies are the backbone of the Pony Club and we hope to see as many of you as possible at forthcoming dates. All day rallies cost 20 while other rallies cost 10. The split of rally groups is as follows: 11s and under - juniors 12s and over - seniors Please remember when attending rallies there will be a tack and turnout inspection and it is important that not only is your horse/pony correctly dressed but you are too. If anyone is unsure of the correct turnout for rallies then please feel free to contact either Emma or Wilma. At each rally, points are awarded for your tack and turnout and at the presentation evening in November a trophy will be awarded to the member with the most points in each age group. PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR RALLY CARD FOR SIGNING. PASSPORTS Under new rules introduced by the Pony Club all members MUST carry their pony/horse passports when travelling to rallies or shows. Please ensure you have yours with you whenever you go out in your trailer/lorry.

Save for death or personal injury caused by the negligence of the organisers or anyone for whom they are in law responsible neither the organisers of this event nor the Pony Club nor any agent, employee or representative of these bodies accept any liability for any accident, loss, damage injury or illness to horses, ponies, owners, riders, spectators, land or any other person or property whatsoever, whether caused by their negligence, breach of contract or in any way whatsoever. 2. Health & Safety The organisers of this event have taken reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone present. For these measures to be effective everyone must take all reasonable precautions to avoid and prevent accidents occurring and must obey the instructions of the organiser and all officials and stewards. Parents assume responsibility for their children while warming up for all classes. 3. The judge s decision is final. 4. Hats must be tagged with Pony Club tape indicating that they conform to the required standards and are to be worn at all times whilst mounted. Tagging is available on the day. 5. All ponies must be kept under control at all times and no galloping or dangerous riding will be permitted. 6. All dogs must be kept on leads and under proper control at all times. 7. Entry to the show is dependant and deemed as acceptance of these rules.
