4 TURNOUT OF PONY AND RIDER a) Hats. This must be manufactured to one of the minimum standards listed (please see attached hat rule). The cover of the hat should be dark blue, black or brown only. Hats with vertical plastic / metallic strips are permitted. All hats must be fitted with a Pony Club hat tag. We will offer hat checks and tagging on the morning of the competition. If you do require hat tagging, please let me (Lucy) know in advance. The kitemark MUST be visible for us to be able to tag on the day. Please note recent changes to the hat standards. Tagging indicates that a hat meets the correct standard, NO check of the fit and condition of the hat is implied. b) Breeches/jodhpurs beige, cream or white. c) Black jackets, hacking jackets or Pony Club sweatshirts may be worn. Pony Club tie or a stock may be worn under a jacket or Pony Club Tie under a sweatshirt, no poloshirts. d) The official metal Pony Club badge should be worn. e) All competitors should wear gloves. f) Long hair must be tidy & secured appropriately. Also at prize giving. g) Riding or jodhpur boots should be worn. Plain black or brown half chaps worn with jodhpur boots of the same colour are allowed. h) Jewellery is not allowed. This rule applies to all Pony Club mounted activities. For safety reasons, no jewellery (including sleepers ) may be worn, other than a wedding ring, a wristwatch, a stock pin worn horizontally, or a tie clip. i) Body protectors The Pony Club does not make the use of body protectors compulsory, except for the cross country phases of Tests, Eventing, Tetrathlon and Racing. The responsibility for choosing body protectors, and the decision as to their use, must rest with the Members and their parents. j) Whips may be carried. If misused, in the opinion of the judge, the rider will be eliminated. k) No Spurs may be worn for this competition. l) At prize giving mounted or dismounted, competitors must be correctly dressed in their competition riding clothes.
5 SADDLERY AND EQUIPMENT Please refer to the Show Jumping Rules 2015 for further information on permitted bits and tack. This can be found on at or purchased for 3 from the Pony Club shop. The Pony Club anticipates competitors to use plain tack. Any extra detail will be marked down in a tack & turnout competition. New equipment is not expected, but what is worn must be clean, neat & tidy. The dressage tests are to be ridden any normal riding bit with no martingale. Numnahs, saddlecloths, pads Saddlecloths or numnahs in Centre colours with appropriate Centre logo are permitted. Logos must not exceed 200 sq. cms. No sponsors logos. It is the responsibility of the competitor and the proprietor to make sure that all tack used is safe and well cared for. There will be a Tack check. Teams will be judged for the turnout award at the dressage collecting ring before their first competitor starts.
6 The Pony Club Hat Rule It is mandatory for all Members to wear a protective helmet bearing the CE mark and manufactured to one of the minimum standards listed below; the CE symbol on its own is not sufficient to ensure consistent standard of manufacture: British - PAS 015:1998 or 2011* / BS** EN 1384: 1996, 1997 or 2012 European - EN 1384:1996, 1997 or 2012 American Snell E2001* with the official Snell label and number Australia and New Zealand - AS/NZS , 2003 or 2006 Only with the BSI Kitemark Please note that the BSEN standard will not be accepted by The Pony Club from 31 st December 2015 * The PAS 015:1998 or 2011 and the Snell E2001 meet higher impact criteria and therefore give more protection. ** The prefix BS on the EN 1384 standard does not mean that the hat has undergone batch testing by the British Standards Institute the hat must contain the BSI Kitemark as well. For cross-country riding (over fences 0.80m high and above), including Eventing, Tetrathlon and Horse Trials and also Pony Racing (whether it be tests, rallies or training) a jockey skull cap, with no fixed peak, must be worn. It is also strongly recommended that a jockey skull cap is worn for cross country riding over lower fences. No recording device is permitted (e.g hat cameras) as they may have a negative effect on the performance of the hat in the event of a fall. The fit of the hat and the adjustment of the harness are as crucial as the quality. Members are advised to try several makes to find the best fit. The hat should not move on the head when the head is tipped forward. It is strongly recommended that second hand hats are not purchased. Hats must be replaced after a severe impact as subsequent protection will be significantly reduced. Hats deteriorate with age and should be replaced after three to five years depending upon the amount of use. Hats, must be worn at all times (including at prize-giving) when mounted with a chinstrap fastened and adjusted so as to prevent movement of the hat in the event of a fall. For Show Jumping and Mounted Games the cover, if applicable, shall be dark blue, black or brown only. For Dressage hats and hat covers must be predominately black, navy blue or a conservative dark colour that matches the rider s jacket for Area competitions or above. The Pony Club Hat silk is also acceptable. The Official Steward/Organiser may, at his discretion, eliminate a competitor riding in the area of the competition without a hat or with the chinstrap unfastened or with a hat that does not comply with these standards. Hat Checks and Tagging - Centre Members hats may be tagged by Centre Proprietors and Coordinators. Hats fitted with a Pony Club tag will not need to be checked on subsequent occasions. If you require hats to be tagged on the day of the competition, please bring your hat to Secretaries when you collect your competition numbers. Tagging indicates that a hat meets the above standards, NO check of the fit and condition of the hat is implied. It is considered to be the responsibility of the Member s parent or guardian to ensure that their hat complies with the required standards and is tagged before they go to any Pony Club event. Also, they are responsible for ensuring that the manufacturer s guidelines with regard to fit and replacement are followed.
