1 To All Groups, RDA South East Regional Dressage Qualifier Kindly sponsored by Cowan Architects Wednesday 24 th May 2017 To be held at: Hickstead Showground, London Road, Hickstead, Haywards Heath, RH17 5NU Please find enclosed the schedule and entry form for the RDA South East Region Dressage Qualifier. We hope that as many of you as possible will be able to attend this year as it is a fantastic chance to experience riding at such a prestigious venue, and it would be fantastic to see some new faces as well as some seasoned campaigners! Entries must be received by Friday 12 th May. Both qualifying and non-qualifying classes will be offered again this year and for those who are not aware, the Grades have changed from I-V to Grades 1-6. The changes are as follows: Grade Ia Grade 1 Grade Ib Grade 2 Grade II Grade 3 Grade III Grade 4 Grade IV Grade 5 Grade V Grade 6 All qualifying classes will be split into junior (U16 on 1 st Jan 2017) and senior sections and the qualifying criteria are shown below: - Top 2 riders in each section (in classes of 10 or more the top 3 will qualify); - All riders must achieve 60% or over to qualify.

3 Conditions of Entry 1. Please ensure you are familiar with the RDA Competition Rules 2017, which can be accessed here: 2. The definition of a led test is where there is a leader with a rope who is influencing the horse as well as the rider. An escorted test allows one helper to enter the arena but they must not influence the test in any way. An unled test must be ridden independently. 3. When filling out the entry form, please enter either O, J or R in the relevant column. O if the rider has competed in a major IPEC Championship in the last 4 years, J if the rider is 16 years or younger on the 1 st January 2017, and R if neither of these apply. 4. Please put a tick in the newcomer column if the rider has not competed in the Regional Dressage Qualifier before. 5. If you have a rider who would like to ride more than one test, please mark their preferred test on the entry form. 6. If you intend to use a pony more than once, please make this clear when entering so that we can do our best to accommodate. Please note each pony can only be used four times. Once you have your times please check that they allow enough time to change over riders. 7. Each class will be 10 to enter, payable at the time of entry. 8. Each group is encouraged to provide a volunteer to help on the day. Please enter their name and contact details on the entry form and they will be contacted in due course. 9. All helpers will need up to date green cards. 10. All horses and ponies will need up to date vaccination certificates and passports. 11. As there will be a photographer in attendance, please indicate on the entry form if any rider does not have photo permission. 12. Neither the organiser nor any person acting on their behalf, accept any liability for any loss, damage, accident, injury or illness to horses, riders, spectators, or any other persons or property whatsoever. 13. If you qualify and intend to go to the National Championships you will need to ensure the following: a. All riders have been officially profiled and entered for the correct classes. b. All horses/ponies entered have up to date vaccinations and passports. c. You have informed Grace Lloyd Jones on the day of the competition of your intent to attend the National Championships. 14. On the day each rider will be required to present themselves for a tack and equipment check at least 15 minutes before their allotted test time. Following the tack and equipment check, please present yourself to your arena steward. Notes on tack and equipment can be found on the next page.

4 TACK AND EQUIPMENT NOTES Riders - Hats must be of current standard (please note BSEN 114 is now out of date). The up to date RDA Hat Guidelines can be found here: GUIDELINES.pdf. - Hair must be neatly tied back and/or in a hairnet. - Earrings must not be worn. If unable to remove earrings, masking tape or plasters should be used both front and back. - Riders should wear either a shirt, tie and jacket or group/school sweatshirt, with jodhpurs, school trousers or similar dark trousers. - All riders should wear gloves. - All riders should wear jodhpur boots, long black riding boots or other suitable footwear. Devonshire Boots must be used on stirrups if any footwear other than the above is used. Leaders and Sidewalkers - All leaders and sidewalkers should wear group sweatshirts or jackets with zips done up, suitable trousers and footwear. - All leaders should wear gloves. Horses/Ponies - Well fitted headcollar with lead rope, or coupling with lead rope if attached to the bit. - Correctly fitting clean bridle with a snaffle bit. - Correctly fitting clean saddle, and if used clean numnah/saddlecloth. - Girth must be of the correct length for the horse/pony. - Stirrups must be of an appropriate length (i.e. no twists) and stirrup irons should be correctly sized, with Devonshire Boots if necessary. - All stitching should be well maintained and will be checked. - No boots or bandages may be worn during the test.
