Character Matters for March ~ PERSEVERANCE Persevence means to act without being prompted by others. We are eager to do what needs to be done without having to be told to do it. We take the first step towards the achievement of a goal. You realize what needs to be done and you do it. Family Friday ~ Thank you! Our Kindergarten and SK/1 classes hosted a Family Friday last week. Parents and Grandparents visited our classes to get a glimpse into our day. Thanks to our families that attended. It was great to see how excited and proud our students were to share their day and accomplishments with you. Ashton Meadows Chess Club Tournament I would like to extend a special thanks to all the members of our Chess Club who brought their Ashton Meadows spirit and good sportsmanship to the Markham/Thornhill Chess Challenge Regional Tournament last Friday! We had a very successful showing this year with our Junior Level team members winning the championship!!! Congratulations to all the players who came out and battled hard through the long, grueling day...we are looking forward to an even larger turnout next year, so make sure to keep practicing and playing and don't forget to spread the word to our up and coming team members! Congratulations team!!!"

Ashton Meadows Junior NBA All-Stars On Friday February 12th, seven of our Ashton Meadows students received an opportunity to attend the JR NBA Allstar event at the CNE.

The students are pictured with Lindsay Whalen, one of the WNBA s greatest players and with the NBA trophy. Ashton Meadows Falcons: Back to Back!

The girls rolled through their opponents and once again were the talk of the tournament because of their execution, professionalism and character.

, who is now an unprecedented 4 time Basketball Champion! She once again took her team on her back and scored 11 of our 19 second half points in the finals.

2 Ashton Meadows Junior NBA All-Stars On Friday February 12th, seven of our Ashton Meadows students received an opportunity to attend the JR NBA Allstar event at the CNE. Our students were outfitted with head to toe gear from Under Armour, see some of the NBA s and WNBA s best players, and participate in a number of basketball activities. The students are pictured with Lindsay Whalen, one of the WNBA s greatest players and with the NBA trophy. Ashton Meadows Falcons: Back to Back! Congratulations to our Intermediate Girls Basketball Team for winning their back to back Area East Championship. The girls rolled through their opponents and once again were the talk of the tournament because of their execution, professionalism and character. They are off to the York Region Championship on March 8th where they hope to repeat as York Region Champions.. Special Acknowledgement A special congratulations to Tamara K., who is now an unprecedented 4 time Basketball Champion! She once again took her team on her back and scored 11 of our 19 second half points in the finals. With three intermediate Championships and one Junior, plus her multiple Track and Field Championships in the 200M, 400M and Long Jump, she is by far, Ashton Meadows most decorated athlete. Next year she will be attending Unionville HS as she was accepted into their coveted Theatrical Arts Program...the kid can do it all!

Earth Rangers at Ashton Meadows Last week, our school had an exciting visit from none other than the Earth Rangers!

They also aim to empower kids and give them an opportunity to help protect animals and their habitats.

The assembly also helped to educate students about protecting biodiversity while highlighting different conservation efforts across Canada.

3 Earth Rangers at Ashton Meadows Last week, our school had an exciting visit from none other than the Earth Rangers! The Earth Rangers are a conservation organization dedicated to educating children about biodiversity and wildlife. They also aim to empower kids and give them an opportunity to help protect animals and their habitats. On February 19th, ambassadors from the Earth Rangers delivered a presentation at our school, featuring live animal ambassadors like the endangered Peregrine Falcon. The assembly also helped to educate students about protecting biodiversity while highlighting different conservation efforts across Canada. The delicious aromas of baked treats floating around the school last week is all over. By now, all classes in the school have already baked their goods. The treats were loved by the entire school! Our bake sale was a great success thanks to all of the classes who baked. We sold hundreds of treats and we were able to raise $1,099.30! All this money will be going to a great cause; clean water and sanitation in Kenya. In addition to the money raised, the treats were also entered into the Second Annual Ashton Meadows Bake-Off. The judges who tasted the treats handed in their score sheets, and the Me to We club has tallied the scores and determined three winners; one for each division. For the Primary division, the winner was Ms. Papez s class, who made delicious blueberry and peach pie. Ms. Sidenberg s class won the Junior prize by making cool tie-dye milkshake cupcakes. Finally, in the Intermediate division, Ms. Dano/Ms. Forrest s class s key lime tarts won the Golden Whisk trophy. Thank you all for supporting us! The Me to We club
