2 Who Will Be the Next Miss Czech-Slovak Missouri? The Board of Directors of the Miss Czech-Slovak Missouri Pageant would like to extend an invitation to all of the young women in Missouri, of Czech and Slovak descent, to participate in a very rewarding experience and an exciting weekend. Each young woman who participates in the Miss Czech-Slovak Missouri Pageant will receive a greater appreciation for her family s ancestry and unique heritage. The participating young women will meet individuals from throughout the state of Missouri and beyond who proudly share this strong connection. In reality, this is an opportunity for the entire family. The Pageant will be composed of four areas of competition: Private Interview, Kroj Modeling, On-Stage Interview, and Talent Competition. The winner of the Pageant will receive awards, prizes, cash scholarship and will go on to represent the State of Missouri at the Miss Czech-Slovak National competition in Wilber, Nebraska in August of 2017 to compete for over $10,000 in awards and prizes. 4 LETTER OF COMMITMENT To Participate in the 2016 Miss Czech-Slovak Missouri Pageant June 10 th & 11 th The Board of Directors is offering the opportunity to eligible Pageant applicants to receive advance instructions and tutoring prior to completing all Application Material for participation. TO: Board of Directors, Miss Czech-Slovak Missouri Pageant I am happy to make a commitment to participate as a contestant in the 2016 Miss Czech-Slovak Missouri Pageant. I fully understand my responsibilities and the benefits that I will receive from the Board of Directors by signing this Letter of Commitment. I understand that this letter is not a requirement for Pageant Application but rather an opportunity to receive assistance from the Board of Directors prior to the submission of my required Application Material. Responsibilities and Benefits of submitting the Letter of Commitment: 1. Will submit my completed Pageant Application Material on or before May 1 st, Will mail this letter of commitment to the Pageant office at the address printed below along with my non-refundable $25 Contestant Application fee. I understand that no other application fees will be required to participate in the 2016 Pageant. 3. Will receive from the Board of Directors, upon their receipt of this letter and my application fee, instructions on how to best prepare for completing the Pageant Application Material and how to best research my heritage. 4. Will have the opportunity to contact any member of the Board of Directors to ask questions during the preparation of my required Pageant Application Material. Your description should be double spaced with 14 point Arial type. The Kroj Description must be e- mailed as a Word document. See Rules and Procedures for more information. Your description should be single spaced with 12 point Arial type. Your description should be limited to a one page Word document and submitted by . Rules for Qualification 1. Contestant must be between the ages of 16 and 25 prior to August 1 of the current year. 2. Contestant must be attending high school or be a high school graduate. 3. Contestant must be of partial Czech, Moravian, Slovak, Rusyn or Silesian descent or be legally adopted by parents of this decent. 4. Contestant must appear in a Czech, Moravian, Slovak, Rusyn or Silesian kroj (Folk Dress). 5. Contestant must be single and never married and have no offensive behavior which could cause a negative impact on the pageant. 6. Contestant must be a legal resident of the state of Missouri or have a current full time student status in an accredited Missouri college, university, tech school, trade school or business school. Pageant Procedures 1. Contestant must be present and participate in all four pageant categories and all pageant events as scheduled by the Board of Directors. The four categories in order are: Private Interview with the Judges, Public Onstage Interview, Kroj Modeling, and Talent Presentation. Failure to complete any category or attend a weekend event will result in disqualification from the pageant. 2. Contestant must attend the mandatory orientation on Friday afternoon and all contestant related events created by the Pageant s Board of Directors. 3. No alcoholic beverages will be consumed by contestants during pageant weekend. 4. Little Sisters will be appointed by the Miss Czech-Slovak Missouri Board of Directors.

8 Page 2 of 4 Contestant s Entry Rules 1. Entries must be complete with all requested information and received by no later than midnight May 1 st, Contestants are advised to register as early as possible in order to adequately prepare for the Pageant. 2. No changes to entry form, Kroj description, or questions are allowed after May 15 th. 3. The following parts must be included in Contestant s Entry Packet Signed Application Form, scanned and submitted by . Response to Pageant Questions (two one sided sheets of paper with 12 point Arial Font) ed as a Word document. Kroj Description (max. of 250 words, one page double space 14 point Arial Font). The Kroj Description must be ed as a Word document. Description of heritage and lineage (one page, 12 point Arial Font). This description must be ed as a Word document. Each page of requested information should have the contestants name at the top of the page. $25.00 Entry Fee, payable to Miss Czech-Slovak Missouri Pageant, must be mailed and received by the Pageant Board on or before May 1 st, 2016 with a printed copy of the Application Form. One color photo, ed as a jpg image (consisting of headshot from shoulder), dressed in Kroj WITHOUT crown or sash from any previous competition. Individual Category Rules 1. All Categories: Contestants compete in alphabetical order by last name. Private Interview Competition 1. Contestant must be interviewed in the same Kroj she presents during the Kroj modeling category. 2. Contestant will receive a 10 minute panel-style interview with the judges. 3. All contestants will receive the same first three questions. After these questions, judges ask questions utilizing the contestant s entry form and questionnaire. 4. Judges cannot ask questions about personal political affiliation, sexual topics, or personal religious affiliation or beliefs. 5. It will be announced to each contestant when 30 seconds are left, contestant should answer final question or finish current question.

9 Page 3 of 4 On-stage Interview Competition 1. Contestant must be interviewed in the same Kroj she presents during Kroj modeling category. 2. Contestant will draw two questions from a total of 10 questions to be asked. The questions will be sent to each contestant, via , as soon as their full application is received to allow her to begin researching her responses. 3. First question will deal with personal thoughts and family history and traditions related to the contestant s lineage. The second question will deal with either history, culture, socio-economic or political structure of either the Czech or Slovak Republics. The contestant can choose which country to describe. 4. The questions will be read by the Master of Ceremonies. Kroj (native folk dress) Competition (Note: The word Kroj is singular, the word Kroje is plural) 1. A 250 word description of your Kroj must be sent (as a Word document) with the Entry Form. This description will be read aloud as you model your Kroj on the stage during the Kroj competition. An example of a Kroj description will be given to each contestant. There are two divisions in the Kroj category: Americanized and Authentic divisions. The Kroj should represent your family s heritage. 2. Kroj description should include (but not limited to): The origin, how it represents you if any part of the Kroj is authentic, the meaning of the Kroj and physical description. 3. Definition of an Authentic Kroj: A traditional Czech, Moravian, Silesian, Rusyn or Slovak native folk dress that are from the native country or are very similar representatives of the original. For example, if you took a picture and recreated the authentic picture. 4. Definition of an Americanized Kroj: A folk dress that represent Czech, Moravian, Silesian, Rusyn or Slovak ancestry with American or modern accents. 5. Kroj description should be 14 point Arial font, double spaced and one page. 6. Description must be typed with contestant s name in page header. Talent Competition 1. Talent performance is limited to no more than four minutes. It begins with a formal introduction and concludes with final performed note, dance motion or word. A penalty of 5 points will be deducted from the talent score if the performance exceeds four minutes. 2. Contestants are encouraged, but not mandated, to introduce their talent including: what talent they will be performing, why they chose their talent and how it relates to the contestant. The introduction is part of the four minute time limit. 3. Talent can be singing, dancing, playing a musical instrument, dramatic reading, art display, dress designing, poetry, drawings, gymnastics, or a verbal oration on a subject or topic.

10 Page 4 of 4 4. Pre-recorded and pre-created props will not be judged as part of the overall performance. All prerecorded music must be submitted as a mp3 audio file as an attachment before the application deadline of midnight May 1st. 5. An on-stage accompanist is allowed but no other partners can perform with contestant. 6. Contestants must describe their talent in detail on their pageant application. 7. Contestants are responsible for all props for their talent. Pageant will provide microphone, piano, and speaker system. All other props must be provided by the contestant. 8. PowerPoint presentations are not permitted. 9. We encourage contestants to perform their talent in Czech or Slovak language or works by Czech or Slovak composers. However, performing a Czech or Slovak talent is not mandatory. Post Pageant Information and Requirements 1. Contestants must be present at all judged events and at the crowning to be eligible to receive the Miss Czech-Slovak Missouri or 1 st Runner-Up and 2 nd Runner-Up title, oration award, talent award, folk dress (Kroj) award and Heritage award. Three qualified judges will choose the winner by means of a point system provided to the judges. 2. The winner will be crowned Miss Czech-Slovak Missouri and will receive a crown, flowers, sash, framed certificate, $800 cash, plus an all-expenses paid trip to the national competition in Wilber, Nebraska in August of The cash prize is awarded at the end of the reign at the following State pageant. The 1 st and 2 nd Runner Up will receive a framed certificate and flowers. If the queen cannot attend the National Pageant, the 1 st Runner Up will take her place at the National Pageant and receive all of the benefits of the Miss Czech-Slovak Missouri Queen. 3. Several appearances at community functions around the state are expected in the year 2016 until the end of the Queen s reign in June, Appearances will be arranged to fit Queen s schedule and will be tailored based on her location. The purpose of her participation in these events is to help promote the Miss Czech-Slovak Missouri Pageant and the Czech and Slovak cultures. Pageant Competition begins with Private Interview * The Private Interview (with 3 pageant judges) is the 1 st of 4 areas of Competition * Where: Moose Lodge Hall (lower level) * Time: 8 a.m. 10 a.m. (contestants should arrive between 7:30 7:45 a.m.) * Participants are required to be in their full Kroj 2. Rehearsal for On Stage Competition & Princess Presentations * Immediately after personal interview thru 12 Noon * Where: Moose Lodge Hall 3. Public Portion of the Pageant begins * Time: 1p.m. to approx. 4 p.m. * Location: Moose Lodge Hall * Opening Ceremony * 2 nd area of Competition: On-Stage Interview * 3 rd area of Competition: Kroj Modeling * 4 th area of Competition: Talent Competition * On-Stage Princess Presentations * Crowing Ceremony & Photographs 4.
