Some suggestions for what to bring: Bring your nonperishable food items Bradford cereal, canned meat (small ham, beef, etc), canned Matt Noise Hauser vagetables, canned spaghetti, jelly, saltines, macaroni & Noise Walters for the food closet!! cheese. 2 July 2010 Volume 17 Issue 7 Page 2 MEETING MINUTES by Murry Randell, Secretary Blue MAX R/C Flying Club June Meeting Notes Meeting Date: June 21, 2010 Secretary: Murry Randell The June 21, 2010 meeting of the Blue Max RC Flying Club was called to order at 7:04 p.m. by President Bradford Walters. Welcome Guests Keith Dsouza, Eric Farnaus, Cliff Kroening, Carl Peterson and Brian Tomasiewicz Welcome New Members None Around the Hangar President s Report: Bradford Walters Hats and nametags are ready for new 2010 members. Members who need instruction should Bradford to set up a time with an instructor. The AMA requires name and phone number or your AMA number inside your airplane. There was a demonstration for the Cub Scouts on May 21. The Boy Scout demonstration was rained out and rescheduled for September Secretary Report: Murry Randell Minutes of the meeting were accepted as published in the newsletter. Treasurer Report: Bob Wisinski Current balance is $ Committee Reports: Banquet: Frank Stillson The banquet will be Saturday, February 5, 2011, at the Arboretum Club. The price will be the same as last year. Field Marshal: Matt Hauser The Impound Stand has been damaged again. The shelves need repair. Grass cutting by the Forest Preserve may be hit or miss. June Program AUCTION Ron Petterec did an excellent job as auctioneer of a former member, Jerry Gould s, planes and equipment. There were many good deals, a lot of fun, and much participation. 5 July 2010 Volume 17 Issue 7 Page 5 Editor s Page THE ANSWER TO JUNE S NAME THAT PLANE The name of the plane is the Heinkel HE162. Larry Bochenko was the first to answer it correctly and will receive a free raffle ticket at this month s meeting. Dan Deitemeyer also answered correctly. This aircraft was designed, built and flown in just 10 weeks, between October and December of It was constructed of wooden wings, metal fuselage, and a metal/wood tailplane and was powered by a turbojet. There were fewer than 4000 of them made. The wing span was only 23 7 and the length was It had a maximum speed of 562 mph and a service ceiling of 39,400 ft. Its armament was two 20mm MG151 cannons. It officially entered service in January of See picture below. JULY S NAME THAT PLANE This plane was the first US bomber built with a tail gunner s position. It was powered by twin Wright Cyclone R engines. It had a maximum speed of 282 mph with a wingspan of 92 feet and was 58 feet 4 inches long. Flight trials soon revealed less than inspiring performance figures. It was quickly passed over and only 38 of them were eventually delivered. St Thomas of Villanova Food Closet Starting at the July 19 th meeting, each month the Blue Max RC Flying Club will be bringing non-perishable food items to assist in providing food to some of the local families. The summer is always a difficult time as many people are on vacation and donating is not on their minds. There will be boxes in the meeting room for collection. The following items have been suggested as the type of food items they would like to receive: Breakfast Cereal Canned Meat (small ham, beef, etc) Canned Vegetables Canned Spaghetti (spaghetti-o s, etc) Peanut Butter Jelly/Preserves Saltines Macaroni and Cheese Rice Dry Pasta Dry Beans Canned Sauce Any other canned, boxed non-perishable foods.

6 July 2010 Volume 17 Issue 7 Page 6 Special Memorial Eric J Marder April 13, 1987 May 5, 2010 Eagle Scout since 2005 This Saturday, July 10 was a special time for the Blue Max club and the Marder family. Their son and brother had developed an interest in RC planes and put together an Alpha trainer. Unfortunately he passed away on May 5 unexpectedly, and never had the chance to get instruction on how to fly it. Karen, Eric s sister, contacted the club and asked if the family could bring it to the field and see it flown as a memorial to Eric. Steve, his father, Sandy, his mother, and Karen came to the field at 10am Saturday with the plane. At the time they didn t know that he had tried to fly it and apparently crashed. Yohay Hahamy discovered this when he started to go over the aircraft. In an amazing show of pulling together as a team, the plane was put back together and by borrowing parts from other s planes and tool boxes, within an hour was in the air. It was a very emotional time as Yohay piloted the plane around the field with the family at the flightline. Afterwards, some of us had a chance to sit and talk to the Marders about Eric and their lives. He was an active, young man who spent a lot of time with his family and was just finishing up his college degree. As the family left, they donated the plane to the club to be used as a trainer to help others learn to fly. We received a heartfelt thank you from the family. To quote It has been a very difficult couple of months but what your club did, collectively, was incredible. You showed us such unbelievable kindness and the experience, overall, was more than we ever imagined it would be. I just can't express our gratitude enough. The vast effort that went into flying Eric's plane was amazing in itself, but the fact that you then took an interest in who Eric was as a person, truly touched our hearts. We will be forever grateful. This is truly what it means to be a club.
