Sales, Service, Parts, and Consulting Contact: BRIAN MINKER Potentate Message Friends, Our first trip is in the bag and I think I speak for everyone when I say we had a great time. Now it s time to get to work on the Circus. This will be the first Circus we have had in many years and it needs to be great. The Divan traveled to Delaware to see Hollywood Circus and I can tell you they are great. Serge the owner is a Shriner and is committed to helping us in every way. We have the best possible site with great exposure and plenty of parking. You should have gotten your tickets to the Circus in the mail so please respond. If you can t bring your family be a Circus Daddy and sponsor a child, buy them a ticket. I hope everyone that has is getting my messages if not just me at office@crescentshrine.org and I will make sure we have your information. Please include your name. Remember our 3 rd Friday night socials ALL YOU CAN EAT FOR $12 and every other Friday night we are here in the new game room just for fun. So come on out, bring your friends have a drink, shoot some pool or just hang out its YOUR CLUB. 5pm till... I can never forget to mention membership it s the one thing that will insure our future. So go to your Blue Lodge and talk up the Shrine. Tell the Master if he needs a speaker we will send one. If he wants a short video we have them. If he wants to run a fundraiser we will help. One district had their DLI here and we got 4 new members. Telling your lodge about the Shrine Circus is a great way to start people talking. This year, like last if you sign up 3 new members your dues are free for next year. Don t forget our website for all the current information. Yours in the Faith Henry J Haughey Potentate
4 Nobles, Recorder Ramblings I m happy to report that everything is running smoothly. Our 3 rd Friday family dinners are doing well and attendance is growing with each month. If you haven t joined us at one of these dinners, please consider doing so. You will enjoy the informal fellowship. Our Monday and Tuesday bingos are doing as expected and budgeted for. If you would like to help out, even every once in a while, we ll gladly find something for you to do. We are open to you every Friday night for casual get -togethers: billiards, darts, shuffle board, cards, or just conversation. Ladies welcome! We are considering hosting some competitive events open to teams from our Units, Clubs, and nearby lodges. It would be nice if someone would volunteer to chair this activity. How about YOU! THE CIRCUS. This cannot happen alone. We need your help. If you can be there at one or more of the performances, great! When you receive your tickets, please do purchase them. Use them yourself; give them away; or become a Circus Dad by donating them back to us for local children. Whatever you decide, know that it will be appreciated. Finally, if you have not as yet paid your 2013 dues, please do so now while it s fresh in your thoughts. Crescent depends on your dues for operating expenses and it costs us $$$$ whenever we send second and third notices. If you are having any kind of problem, let us know and, together, we ll work it out. See you at the circus in June! Yours in the Faith, Paul Paul R. 5 Motorcycle Patrol Our unit has increased by one new rider, Noble James A. Smith. We welcome James and his Lady Marie. James rides a Harley-Davidson Trike and seems eager to participate in future parades. We are looking forward to having you in our parade lineup. On March 9th our unit went to Hamilton N.J. to participate in a St. Patrick's Day parade, the first for We had plenty of sunshine and music which made this a great day. Currently reported at our last units meeting we have been asked to be in Allentown N.J. for their Memorial Day Parade. Hopefully New Egypt will contact us as well as we normally perform in both parades on that day. As spring seems very close bringing with it warm weather our Shrine Center is busy with activities. A ceremonial is coming up to add new Nobles to our shrine. The Crescent Shrine Circus is coming up in June and don't forget the Friday night socials on the 3rd Friday of the month. Come out and have some fun! Bob Hullfish Chief Rabban Lady Sharon and I would like to thank everyone for there cards and well wishes after my last surgery. I certainly hope it will be the last one. I know that the Potentate will mention the circus in s, letters and articles in the Rasul this month. The reason it will be mentioned so often, is that it is our number one fundraiser for Crescent Shrine for the year. Please do what you can do to promote this endeavor; it is the first time in many years Crescent has tried to have a Circus. It is important to remember what the Circus represents. Shriners with their Fez are always associated with the Shrine Circus. So be a supporter by coming out with your Kids, Grand Children, or just bring a friend, our success depends on every one. Lee Grimes High Priest & Prophet Lady Shirley and I just returned from our Florida vacation and had a great time. The Florida weather is great for Lady Shirley s rheumatoid arthritis. We wanted to thank Barbara and William Le Noire s donation of their time share in Kissimmee for the Tricky Tray auction held at Crescent Shrine on December 9 th. Lady Shirley was lucky enough to win the vacation and we had a great time. While we were in Florida I read an interesting article about cocooning, which was referring to people staying at home and entertaining themselves there. The article said technology makes it possible for us to avoid leaving our homes, whether seeing a movie or getting food delivered and it can lessen our connections with other people. With all the new technology, it is now being referred to super cocooning. It s obvious that we cocooner s need to brush up on our social skills and I can t think of a better place than our own Shrine. Get the family out to one of our Friday night socials or one of our bingo events. The upcoming Shrine circus is another great opportunity to break the cocooning cycle. Hope to see you at OUR shrine Yours in Faith Gerald Jeitner High Priest and Prophet 5
6 Treasurer Nobles, Just a few hours ago, I returned from the Treasurer s Conference in Tampa. This was one of the best and informative conferences I have ever attended. I am looking forward to sharing this information with all of you. As I meet and socialize informally with Nobles, they have been asking me questions concerning how does this work; how much do we make on that; are the investments strong. To address all of these questions, I have decided to not only give a Treasurer s report at the Stated Meeting but include one financial topic each month. I believe a well informed Noble makes well informed decisions. I hope all of you will join me in looking forward to a warm spring and fun filled summer. There are few things that attract new members more than seeing the warmth and friendship of our Temple, the family activities and a Temple that is well and strong. William Rudolph Treasurer Bingo This is our #1 Fundraiser so even if you do not play tell your neighbors Every Monday at 7pm NOW TUESDAY MORNING BINGO 11 am start Don t forget to visit our web site for club and unit information AND FOR SHRINE INFORMATION VISIT
7 Remember for a donation of $500 dollars you will receive a gold leaf on our giving tree in the main lobby. You can designate if the donation goes to supporting the operations of the Temple or goes directly to the mortgage principal. You decide what is on the leaf so honor a NEW GOLD LEAF MEMBERS George & Soojin Wigginton Ilona Waggoner In Memory of Ill. Richard J. Waggoner James & Paula Allison Harry & Joyce Winkler John C. Johnson James & Cheryl Thompson We would like to thank those Nobles who faithfully send their monthly donations to our Mortgage Reduction Fund. And we encourage more Nobles to consider contributing. Check our web-site for all the latest information And for everything about Shriners Hospital and Fraternity 14 Colonel s Corner Nobles; The ceremonial for April has been cancelled & the new petitioners will be added to the ceremonial that is going to be held during our Shrine Circus, on Saturday, June 22, I trust that you will extend to them a helping hand in acclimating them to Shrinedom & Crescent Temple. It is hoped that all of you will be attending and assist with the Circus event by participating in making this the event that it used to be. But, this cannot be accomplished without your individual attendance & support. As you are aware, Fall MASA is on the horizon once again. Last year was a huge success, with several of our units being awarded numerous trophies. Let us all strive to represent Crescent Shrine with that same pride, as you have shown in past years, and continue to make this one of the best & worthwhile events for our Temple. With your help working together harmoniously to achieving the goal of bringing honor to all the Units of Crescent Shrine, enjoying great brotherhood, and having some fun at the same time. I am proud to be a Shriner and a Noble of this great Temple. Well, we are back from Potentate Henry s Cruise to the Eastern Caribbean, with Lady Kathy seeing that the cruise went well, the island visited were superb, the view terrific, the refreshments flowed smoothly & often, the food was excellent, as well as, the shows we attended. There was something for everyone. There were 25 of us in the group, which included, Noble Penguin that enjoyed the 9 days. Yours truly, caught a bad cold the 2 nd day out, & with several others, acquiring a cold when we returned. They say I gave it to them, Ha!, they got the cold because they were sad to have the trip end lol Ill. Sir Ross, was a sun tanning machine. Noble Don Rodner, got his exercise by walking the entire ship numerous times exploring everything the ship offered. We met with numerous Masons, & Shriners (Zembo Shrine), & I received a Regular Membership Petition to Horizon Daylight Lodge #299. Speaking of Horizon Daylight Lodge, We will be holding our 2 nd Annual Picnic, July 28, 2013, at 1:00 PM,. here at the Shrine Pavilion & it is open to all Masons, their families, friends, children. 9 Motor Corps. Mini Car Unit The Motor Corps. Mini Car Unit members pictured above participated in the annual Saint Patrick s Day Parade in Seaside Heights, NJ on March 9 th. This is one of our favorite events each the year and is a great way to start our parade schedule. The weather was beautiful for early March and the crowd was the largest we have seen at this enthusiastically celebrated event. An estimated 50,000 to 60,000 people crowded along the Boulevard and gave us a rousing reception. Pride in restoring the Shore was evident everywhere. Our traditional post parade picnic of good food, beverage and fellowship was enjoyed by all. The parade schedule for 2013 is starting to take shape. We will be doing several repeat performances at some of our favorite parades. Hopefully, those parades which experienced financial difficulties last year will return to our schedule. Our fleet of 10 antique style mini vehicles allows us to participate in parades at two different locations at the same time. New members of the Unit, Ill. Sir Jim Umlauf and new Shriner Dave Fultz, will help us have the manpower needed to drive all the cars. Unfortunately for our Unit, Jim Thompson, who has been Captain and leading our drills the last couple years, is relocating with his lady, Cheryl, to the warm weather of the Florida Keys. We will miss his leadership, ideas and hard work, but wish him and Cheryl good luck as they embark on their new adventure. Maybe Jim will retain the title of Captain and just switch his mode of transportation from mini car to water craft. Jim found an enthusiastic buyer for his wine cask truck in Ill. Sir Jim Umlauf, who won t even have to change the name on the back of the truck. We are always looking for additional members and extend an invitation to all nobles of Crescent Shrine. You do not have to own a car to be a member. Currently, we could use more non-owners and support nobles in the Unit. Our goal is to have a membership of two non-owners for every vehicle in the fleet. This way we will have sufficient backup drivers when owners are unable to make it to a parade. Also, we need members to drive the trucks pulling our trailers in the parades. We do have a couple vehicles available for purchase, though. Any noble interested in joining should contact a member of the Unit or the Shrine office to express your interest. Also, you may come by our room on any Units night to talk to us and get more information. Please see our pictures on the Unit s web page of the Crescent Shrine web site.
