1 NEWS March 2018 BOARD OF DIRECTORS Randy Roe President Mark Girolamo Vice President Steve Nelson Financial Secretary Recording Secretary Jim Kain Tom Bozonelos Senior Shirley Anderson Sean Rumple Tom Reed John Martin Gale Verdick John Heiss Mark English Mark Kish Sargent at Arms Inside this issue: St. Patrick s Day Party & Vaughn Center Memberships Upcoming Events 3 Sports & Gymnastics News 4 General Information 5 Menu & Calendar 6 2 Message from Your President Greetings My Fellow Turners, Volume 5 Issue 3 I d like to start off by saying Thank You to all of you who paid your 2018 Aurora Turner Club dues. All but 209 of our members renewed their memberships. That is a great number. Not 100% renewed but a vast majority. Thank you very much for your continued support of the Aurora Turner Club and through your membership the Illinois District of the American Turners and the American Turner organization itself. There is a great amount of value in being a member of the Aurora Turners. You have a full kitchen with great meals to enjoy 6 days per week from 11:00am to 8:00pm with the food very reasonably priced. All of our drinks are priced among the lowest in the area with many drinks specials throughout the month. We have a playground for your children to play on, a gymnasium that offer gymnastics and athletic programming for children of all ages, an adult softball field along with adult volleyball played during the summer months and fall for softball. Enjoy a burger and a drink while watching a game. A tremendous value for your $ For your membership here I am truly thankful. I would be remiss if I didn t mention the hundreds of our 25+ year members that continue to support the club by voluntarily paying the $12.50 fees that we pay to our National and State organizations as National doesn t recognize a Lifetime membership until the 40th year of those fees being paid. I truly want to say thank you to those members here at the Aurora Turner Club that continue to contribute to the success and financial well being of the club you have supported for so many years. Thank you so much. A club built and supported by you. Thank you. Unfortunately we had some of our members that didn t renew their memberships by the end of the day February 28th, 2018 and are no longer Aurora Turner members. The Bylaws of the Aurora Turners by which we are governed have no process of appeal after March 1st if no appeal is asked for prior to then. This year we received no requests. I hope you will reconsider not renewing your membership and reapply to be a member. See a bartender for a new application. The Aurora Turners has some fun events planned in the months ahead. We have the Children's Easter party on Saturday March 31st. See this newsletter for more information. We also have something new from our Professional dance instructors Mary and Randy Love. On Monday nights they are now offering Couples Dance lessons along with the Thursday night Line Dancing lessons. Mary and Randy teach through out the Chicago area and Western Suburbs and we are proud to have them offer the skills and expertise in teaching here at the Aurora Turners. Bring a partner out for the Monday lessons or bring your friends out on a Thursday night for some Line Dancing instruction. It s a very reasonable fee to give it a try. We have Saint Patrick's Day all planned out with Green beer, Corned Beef and Cabbage served throughout the day and DJ Whitey Ford playing the music from 8:30pm to 12:30 am. Stop by the club and see what the drink specials and raffles will be. It will be a Good Time with Great Food and Drinks. I d like to also say Thank you to my Board of s and Fellow Officers here at the Aurora Turner Club. Their names and offices are to the left of my column. It takes a lot of help and volunteers to run a club that offers as much as the Aurora Turner Club offers. Volunteers led by the board members include Wednesday Crossfire, the Friday Night and Queen of Hearts drawing. Throw in some band nights and special dinners like New Years Eve and Valentines Dinner Dance, Haunted Trails, the Halloween Party and you can see all of the help that my Board gives me. Day in and Day out, I couldn t ask for a better group of people to work with. All of that said, If any of you reading this have the energy and the spare time to become a member of the Board of s you must attend 4 General Membership meetings in the 12 months preceding elections which are held in December. I myself am eligible to run again for a 2nd term as President but I am announcing now in this newsletter to all of you that I will not be running for any office here at the club in the next election cycle in December My goal in running for President of your club was to leave the club a little better than when I came in and it was in great shape and still is thanks to the efforts of those whose names are to the left and all of our employees. We still have work to do but think about becoming more involved in your club. Because ultimately, Aurora Turners is your club. With Turner Greetings, Your Aurora Turner Club President, Randy Roe
