2 Good day my fellow Lot Owners! It s Russ here; my turn again to write the message from the Board. Easy one to write as it is the Canada Day long weekend! First weekend with the kids out of school! My daughter is doing her happy dance after writing her last final exam this week. I hope all kids (both young and old) enjoy the summer off with lots of time at Carefree. Lots planned for everyone this weekend! Starting with Bingo on Friday night, fireworks at dusk, then Saturday includes a craft sale and an adult dance, and then the Carefree parade on Sunday with a family dance that evening. Be sure to check the social calendar in this newsletter and take in as much as you desire. In case you were wondering why are the fireworks on Friday night this year rather than Saturday? We continue to get great feedback from the company we use (Big Bang Fireworks) and when we were reserving them last year, the only night they were available is the Friday night. They are booked with the City of Red Deer for the balance of the weekend. Also, because of our flexibility, they give us an attractive rate and promised an awesome show! Most of us welcome company this weekend to enjoy all the free festivities planned and our Carefree weekend lifestyle. Our population significantly grows during the summer, especially now that the kids are done school. Please remember to educate your guests on our rules as you are responsible for them while they are in the Resort. Also, in case you were wondering why does Carefree have an18 kilometer speed limit rather than the 30k limit in city playground zones? The reason is that most playground zones have sidewalks whereas Carefree does not. Our kids often use the road to ride their bikes and other toys. We are proud that Carefree is arguably a kid s utopia, and we all want them to continue to enjoy it in a safe environment. So, thank you for continuing to respect and obey our speed limits. In closing, have a safe and enjoyable weekend with friends and family. Be Carefree! obo Carefree Board of Directors. Thank you Lee and Sandra Kids Ball Tournament Who Wants to Play Ball!! We have decided to change the format of the Kids Baseball Tournament a bit this year in an effort to make it more competitive for our 12 to 17 year old Carefree residents. Please don t be alarmed as we will still have some fun baseball action for our little ones as well. We plan on having a game on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 10:00am for our 5 to 11 year olds. They will be placed on teams and get to bat, run and catch the ball. We will have some of our year old residents come and help out the little ones. It should be a great time!!! On Saturday afternoon, we will start the first Carefree Teen Baseball Tournament, we are hoping to get enough players for at least three teams, and the kids would play at least two round robin games on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. The Championship game would take place on Sunday afternoon. Of course, this is all tentative based on participation numbers. If you have a teen or know a teen that would be interested in playing in the tournament, please let me know at your earliest convenience. Once we see the numbers, we can go forward with the planning of how many players on each team etc. Please contact me at sandy@carefreeresort.com to sign up your child and/or teen.

9 Gleniffer Lake Boating Society Web Site: PONTOON BOAT OWNERS With the completion of the 3 rd and 4 th arrays we now have completely rebuilt our entire marina. The build has taken 3 years and the hard work of your Board members and volunteers from our membership. The cost was approximately $240,000 for materials and due to our volunteers a $0.00 cost for labour. We want this marina to be still standing 20 years from now and be in good shape. In the past, we have found that the pontoon boats can cause damage to the docks if the captain has a rough landing or from high winds causing the boats to rock in the slips. To prevent this from happening we would like all pontoon boat owners to mount a piece of 2 x 6 on the dock at the front end. The boating society will provide the piece of lumber and the screws, but you will be responsible for the installation. Some have been installed already and you can check those out if you are not sure how. The precut boards and screws are next to the shop. Please note that the cost of any damage caused to our docks will be billed to the membership assigned to that slip. If you rent out your assigned slip to another member, you will be responsible for damage costs. We estimate it could cost approximately $ for repairs if dock lumber has to be replaced so please take precautions now. WINCHES AND BOOM ADJUSTMENTS Let me introduce you to Richard Jackson, a familiar face to Carefree Resort and a longtime marina member. Richard is back for the second year and oversees the winches on the arrays and booms making sure they are at the proper tension to keep our docks and boats safe. He is checking this on a daily basis and sometimes more often depending on the water fluctuations. Please leave this task up to Richard to make all necessary adjustments. If you believe there is a problem, contact Richard at Lot #91. A LOGO IS NEEDED All these years and we have never had a logo. We thought it would be a fun contest to have our members, young and old, design a logo for the Gleniffer Lake Boating Society. We would like to have a flag made up with the winning design to fly down at the marina indicating wind direction for our avid boaters. A $25.00 gift certificate for our local store will go to the winner. CANOES, INFLATABLE TOWABLES, ETC. STORED ON TRAILERS REGULATION #18 states the following: Trailer parking at the marina will be only allowed in the assigned parking spots and is limited to premium and regular members only. These spots are assigned and regulated by the Board of Directors of the Society. Members not assigned parking spots are not allowed to store their trailer at the marina. A fee of $50.00 is charged per assigned parking spot. Trailer parking is only available from the marina install until the removal. No towable or boat may be stored on the trailers. Beyond the assigned trailer parking, members are NOT permitted to park trailers and/or towing vehicles overnight. At the 2018 AGM, our membership asked if this regulation could be changed to allow for these items to be stored on the trailers in the parking stalls. After careful consideration your Board has decided to leave this regulation as is. One of your Board s concerns is, without adequate tie downs and the winds the marina can experience, items stored on trailers can become flying objects capable of causing damage to both watercraft and humans. This is something no one would like to see. 11 GOLF CART INSURANCE As you know, we require proof of insurance for all golf carts as per policy, and have been enforcing this for a few years. Please bring in your current proof of liability insurance to the Office in order to receive your required 18 sticker. We will be looking for your name, expiry date and specification that the golf cart is in fact covered. If the insurance you submitted last year is still viable, come into the office and we will give you your sticker. Golf carts found driving around the resort without a 18 sticker will be escorted back to their respective lots, and should remain parked until the sticker has been issued. If a golf cart is caught without the appropriate sticker more than once, a fine of $25.00 will be issued to the lot owner. Repeat offenders can expect increasing penalties including having their golf cart removed from the resort. We are confident that this procedure will ensure that our Carefree community is a safer place for all residents. For more information regarding golf carts, please see current policy statements.
